It's opened under new management and we Just tried this fried chicken and fish spot, and wow, it's a fantastic addition to the neighborhood! The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the fish was fresh, flaky, and fried just right. You can really taste the quality and care in the seasoning. Smells wonderful like Fresh fried chicken seems like it's probably cooked to order because it took awhile to get my 8 piece chicken nuggets. But it was worth the wait. They were seasoned well not too hard or soft actually just right. There are plenty of seats for dine in. The menu had a variety of sides and chicken choices. Disappointing Experience - Won't Be Returning My husband and I were really looking forward to trying Red Bird Fried Chicken, but our experience was incredibly disappointing from start to finish. When we walked in, it was uncomfortably hot inside--easily around 85 degrees. No one greeted us. The woman at the counter was completely disengaged, staring at her phone and barely acknowledging us. When we asked simple questions about the menu--like what the Asian sauce tasted like or whether the shrimp was Gulf or imported--she laughed and said she'd never tried anything on the menu. I ordered the signature chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes. The sandwich was small, just two chicken tenders and a little sauce. The mashed potatoes were cold, clearly instant, with a small drizzle of gravy. They were so bad I couldn't eat them. My husband also ordered a signature chicken sandwich with fries. When our order was finally ready, they only gave us the fries. We told them we had ordered two sandwiches, and the woman just shrugged and said she only heard fries--no apology, no offer to fix it. So we left with only one sandwich between us. We waited about 20 minutes for the chicken sandwich, and we were the only people in the restaurant--aside from an elderly couple who came in about 10 minutes after us. Despite the empty dining room, the service was slow and careless. When our food was ready, they just set it on the counter without a word. No "here you go," no "thank you," and no acknowledgment as we left. Between the poor service, lack of basic customer courtesy, and subpar food, this was an all-around disappointing experience. The service was great. There were only 1 or 2 tables occupied when we arrived so ordering the food was easy. We got our drinks and found a table. The one thing I noticed, having worked in a restaurant environment, were the employees were a little lapse in my opinion. While our food was frying, the employees in the back were sitting on the countertops in view of the customers. The food itself was good. Nothing really tasted fresh to me. It tasted frozen to the fryer. It still tasted good, and if I was tired and hungry, I'd definitely stop by again. The chicken thighs I got were humongous. One of them was on the dry, overcooked side. The other one was perfect. How does that happen? The red beans tasted like bell peppers. I don't recommend it. I wanted to try the mashed potatoes and gravy, but they were out. I should've tried the okra like the little girl suggested. The bread that came with it was very good. Unless you've been in the last 2 months, you're missing out on some of the best fried chicken. I had a couple of mild chicken legs and they were juicy and flavorful without that spicy kick that catches you off guard. Next time though I'm trying the spicy version which the owner says is a crowd favorite. Oh and they have the softest rolls I know I'll dream about. I hear they're changing the rolls soon to be even more amazing and extra buttery so yet another reason go check them out. Did I mention the dipping sauce?! Their sauce is amazing: velvety and savory with a touch of honey. The restaurant was packed with locals right before I got there but service was timely and unforgettably friendly. There's even a family corner with a tv and little chairs for kids. I met the owner, K and he was the nicest and most genuinely charming restaurant owner you'll meet. Make plans to go visit this weekend or at lunch next week for your first time or as a do-over from past experiences. Not anything special, Baton Rouge has Chicken Shack that has better chicken and less expensive. Only tried the chicken and macaroni and cheese and it was not anything to rave about. Been wanting to try them out and finally got a chance. I ordered a 2pc spicy with onion rings and a lemonade. Let me start off my saying the service was impeccable. I went thru the drive thru and the young man taking my order was so nice. He explained everything well. Probably the best drive thru service I've ever had. Now the chicken. I ordered a 2pc leg and thigh spicy. The leg has zero flavor and was a bit overcooked. When I tasted it I was ready to be disappointed. No taste whatsoever no seasoning nothing. Now the thigh was juicy and flavorful with a hint of spice. I'm assuming they gave me a leg of regular chicken not spicy. The onion rings were also really good. Same seasoning as the spicy chicken. They were hot, fresh, and homemade. It was also serviced with a fried roll or biscuit. That was so good. Something different but tasty. I'll try them again but spicy chicken only. Unfortunately, I did not care for this chicken. I picked up six pieces of bone in and six chicken tenders so we could try both. We found it extremely dry, definitely not hot and though it was their spicy version, it did not have much flavor at all. The onion rings were pretty good just a lot of breading. They had a smoky ketchup that I found very good. This was our experience but I always recommend you try it for yourself. Just maybe don't invest almost $50 (like I did) to give it a try. This chicken is fabulous. Cooked to juicy perfection. Crunchy crust even after it traveled home with us. Nicely spiced. Now for the downside (minus 1 star. I might have deducted 1.5 stars). The Red Bird 8 piece box is $20 with no sides. Popeye's makes good chicken too. They charge $20 for 10 pieces and 4 biscuits. At every other chicken restaurant I've ever visited, an 8 piece mixed box included dark meat plus 2 breasts and 2 wings. The Red Bird box only includes dark meat plus ONE breast and 3 wings. Disappointing. The Red Bird sides that we got were okay but not great. The coleslaw was meh and pretty expensive. Fairly bland dressing on too large chunks of cabbage. KFC coleslaw is much better. Mac and cheese was acceptable but not very cheesy. Spiral noodles instead of macaroni. The service was good. We didn't have to wait long for our food but we were the only folks in the place. The meal came with a roll, the role was not bad. The macaroni and cheese had a little bacon bit sprinkles on top. it wasn't bad at all. a nice little side dish. overall it was a very good experience and i look forward to coming back. plenty of seat inside. the decor was some older vintage records on the wall. has a down home feel to it. i will definitely be putting this place into my lunch rotation. great location as well. across the street from bass pro. read more
