We stopped by while traveling. We placed a to go order. The bill seemed to high so I asked for an itemization. The prices charged were higher than what was listed in the menu-mind you a menu offered right in the restaurant. I pointed it out and first they said "oh that's lunch prices" I showed them that the lunch prices were on a different part of the menu and were significantly lower. So when I directed back to the main dinner menu, the discrepancies were .50 and a full dollar. Not breaking the bank but still....the employee said oh well those menu's are a couple of years old. Our very first time and did not disappoint! We had the miso soup, perfect taste not too thin nor too strong, it would have better if it was hotter though. Our choices the Carolina roll, crunchy roll (shrimp tempura), California and dynamite rolls were perfectly assembled and delicious. For starters I went on a Saturday night and I've got to say that the service was quick despite other reviews that stated otherwise. My server greeted me fairly quickly but did not give her name when she introduced herself which is a big no-no. I ordered soup for something quick as I hadn't eaten all day and was starving. Tom Ka Kai 4/5 Stars Chicken was cooked well and it brought the heat. One of the better ones I've had but not hearty enough to get the fifth star. New York Fried Roll 4/5 Stars One of my favorites here and should be yours too. Always cooked just right and the spicy mayo and eel sauce just brings it home. Lobster Roll 2/5 Stars Bland, bland, bland. Which was surprising. Disappointing that the lobster, if there was any, was masked up so much by the crab topping. Unagi Nigiri (Eel over rice) 1/5 Stars Fish seemed cold and eel is usually cooked, rice tasted warm and fresh though however it was lacking eel sauce when served. Just fish & rice held together. The only note I'd have is that the address placed their restaurant across the street on my GPS. I call to asked exactly where they were located and the person would answer at the same time as the fax machine would answer, which became extremely annoying after the fourth time. I ordered for pick up and I had to asked for utensils, napkins and everything I needed since I was staying at a hotel. So not the best customer service based on a phone order. I'm not familiar with Spartanburg area, but I went with some friends who highly recommended Red Bowl (Was told delicious and cheap) The sushi was BOGO which is always awesome but the rolls just didn't hit the spot for me - All had a lot of rice, and each roll was bland! Dragon Roll was decent - but I feel like Dragon Rolls are always yummy :) I also tried hibachi vegetables, I felt like I got more rice than vegetables and it was drowned in the brown sauce. The first time our waitress either quit or got fired and stopped showing up after a while. Several minutes later another waitress came and told us that then disappeared. The manager finally came with like 3 checks in his hands and was like "is this one yours?". After we got he left and that was the last we saw of him. We ended up just leaving the money on the table and leaving. But because the sushi is so good and half off after 3:30 we went back. Red bowl is kind of like PF Changs but a little bit cheaper especially for lunch. They have a variety of lunch specials that includes either an egg roll or spring roll. Today I got the beef lo mein which is excellent to me it tasted really well. The spring roll at this location didn't seem too good it lacked crispiness and it was a little on the cold side. I usually like their sushi but I didn't try it at this location so I can't comment on how good it is or not. I would have given 4 stars but our service was not all that great. If your not happy to be there and take orders then send me someone who can help me with a smile on their face id hate to think I was bothering you by letting you do your job. Jeez! Yummy!! Super busy by the time we got there on a Sunday after church- so we sat at the bar (not crowded at the time) and ate. The very friendly bartender assisted us and took our drink orders and we ordered a couple of rolls. She even recommended one- that was outstanding!! We ordered food as well- great, everything was great!! Until.... My 12 yr old daughter and I overheard the manager or owner reprimanding the very capable bartender about a food order she placed. Not professional- if we heard it, I'm sure others did too. She looked embarrassed, and stated that she guessed she would pay for the incorrect order. Really dude? You're going to take the $$ out of her pocket? Lame. He nodded at her and walked off. We had already paid and were about to leave when I overheard all of this. I asked her what she was going to have to pay for and she admitted that she misheard a customer and placed the wrong sushi order. I knew I didn't have enough cash on me to cover the whole balance of the 2 rolls, but I grabbed the dollars I had and left them there for her to help pay for it.
