She incorporates fresh eggs from her flock of lively hens whose happy clucking can be heard throughout the day. We look forward to our next trip when we can once again savor the scrumptious frittatas, homemade blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes, and delicious fruit cups at the dining room's table that looks over the sloping backyard fields and the ocean beyond. Forget your standard protein, starch and veg, Chef Nathaniel's plates are all beautiful works of art that harmoniously tantalize the tongue. We started with the Red Mussels, corn bisque, sweet pea ravioli, gazpacho, and tuna tuxedo special, as well as a mozzarella flat bread for my 6 year old dining companion (he devoured the entire flat). The menu offered two variations of mussels, a traditional white wine and garlic preparation and the red, which we tried, and they were some of the most delicious and different mussels I've ever had, including tequila, cotija cheese and tomatoes. Once we finished the mussels we ordered another serving of bread just to sop up the sauce (we used the bread for the pea ravioli pasta sauce as well!) Delicioso!!! I'm always excited to try a fresh house made pasta and these ravioli most certainly did not disappoint! Prior to the meal the head chef came out and explained to us the 288 lb fresh tuna that he was breaking down, accompanied with a Tuna Special Menu. We ended up getting the tuxedo tuna and I only wish I could have tried everything special, yummm!! For mains we got the scallops, the veal, the seared tuna special meal, the halibut and the crab cakes. Everyone was so stuffed by the end but there was nothing left on a single plate. Across the board, the flavor combinations were innovative and scrumptious. On top of being the most delicious food in the region, the atmosphere is the tops. Whichever level you are seated on provides you with a glorious view of the ocean and as the cheery staff bustled around we were serenaded by James Taylor-esque guitar and vocals. Everyone working there seems happy and helpful and BUSY! not too busy however to make sure you are taken care of. My key lime pie was delicious. The coconut really added to the dish. My son devoured his pub burger and had no complaints. My husband said his calamari and fish tacos were ok. The heirloom tomato salad was the best. The arugula has a nice taste to it along with the layer of ricotta cheese under it all. The flavors really blended well with this dish. The Inn on Peaks Island -- Great Food After Surviving the Ferry!…read more We decided to take the ferry to Peaks Island--and yes, we drove our car right onto the boat. Let me tell you, they packed those vehicles in so tightly that I'm pretty sure our car made new friends on both sides! Once the ferry started rocking, my wife completely lost her mind. She was holding on for dear life, saying she was going to be sick and that the minute we got back to the Airbnb, she was going straight to bed. Meanwhile, I was pretending to be calm while secretly checking whether our vehicle came equipped with life jackets. Thankfully, the ride was only about 15 minutes, and once we arrived, Peaks Island was absolutely beautiful. The island is so small that we drove around the whole thing in about 15 minutes. Most visitors were cruising around in golf carts, while we showed up in our full-size vehicle looking like we were relocating permanently! The island has charming homes, gorgeous waterfront views, a cute little fire station, tiny shops and probably the most adorable post office I have ever seen. Everything looked peaceful, clean and picture-perfect. Even the local restaurant named Cockeyed Gull had us laughing before we ever walked inside anywhere. You know you are on a special island when even the seagulls have personality! Then we found The Inn on Peaks Island, and it was the perfect place to stop and eat. The outdoor seating had a relaxed, tropical atmosphere with a little Jamaican-island vibe--Maine seafood mixed with "don't worry, be happy." We got a little rain while sitting outside, but nobody cared. After surviving the ferry ride and my wife's dramatic farewell speech, a few raindrops were nothing! We ordered enough food to perform a full restaurant inspection: clam chowder, beef chili, lobster rolls, a hamburger, cheesesteak and Bang Bang shrimp. Everybody sampled everybody else's plate because apparently ordering your own food means absolutely nothing in our family. The clam chowder was creamy and loaded, the chili was hearty, the lobster roll was fresh and packed with lobster, and everything else disappeared faster than my wife trying to get off that ferry! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxing and the entire Peaks Island experience was unforgettable. Definitely visit The Inn on Peaks Island--just arrive hungry, bring your sense of adventure and make sure whoever is riding the ferry with you has a strong stomach!

Since there was no mention of this on their website and I had emphasized " first floor bedroom " as being necessary, we ( husband and me with walking canes and daughter and husband) arrived to what looked like an impossible situation. After much discussion with the check-in person and no alternatives suggested, plus a large deposit made for 3 nights, we decided to try it. It was so difficult to get up and down the stairs, it affected our entire trip...carry out meals, one daily trip up and down for husband and me, son-in-law hauling luggage, groceries, etc up stairs, etc. Once inside, the cottage is nice, roomy,private,clean and functional. There are 2 master suites with balconies...one downstairs and one upstairs. Downstairs there is a living /dining area ( with tv), and full size kitchen ( bring your own coffee or tea). Upstairs there is a third small room with a queen bed and free washer and dryer and a " hangout out" area with couch, games, etc. The food was delicious. We had breakfast served so had to reheat some items in the microwave. Really enjoyed the morning smoothies. Afternoon cookies are a must; different homemade cookies each day. This place is ideal for able-bodied people but definitely not for those who have mobility or balance issues.

It did change ownership's this year, I met Mike the farmer owner and he was very gracious And I'm sure he ran a great in. The current owners are doing a magnificent job as well. I unfortunately do not know the name of the woman who works the front desk. I am sorry for that because I would like to give her a big shout out. She was most gracious and very helpful every time I had a question. We got two rooms. My friend stayed in room 18 which has its own bath and a queen size bed. It was lovely and it was on a corner so she had two windows. I stayed in room 13 it had two twin beds and a sink in the room but the shower and toilet were across the hall. I've stated other places where you have to share a bathroom and this end was different in that the Bathrooms were assigned and only two guest rooms shared each bathroom. My bathroom was never occupied. I'm not sure anybody was in the room that shared my bathroom but if they were, I never saw them. As you do have to walk across the hall to get to your shared bathroom, guest robes were provided. The bed was comfy. You could open the window and enjoy the island breeze. The room, both my guestroom and the bathroom were very clean. One thing that was surprising given the age of the building and that the hotel was pretty full was that it was quiet. I've never heard anyone outside my room or really any noise at all. There are several small rooms off the lobby, where you can sit and read or just enjoy an intimate conversation. All the furniture looked to be in good shape. Nothing was shabby or worn out. There is a porch out in front of the Inn that overlooks the water. It has rocking chairs on the porch and Adirondack chairs out in the yard. It is lovely. Unfortunately it was a rainy day. The first day we were there, but that didn't deter us from exploring the island. The hotel has a refrigerator where you can place your own bottle of wine or anything you need to put in there. But it is a bit tight so don't expect that you're going to put a lot of food in there. The Inn has a restaurant and I'm going to review that separately. Breakfast was included. I would definitely stay here again if overnighting on Mohegan Island..
