This winter wedding for our daughter went off without a hitch. Everything was right from our first contact to our last, although we will be back. A winter wedding is hard to plan, celebrating Maine's finest. Laura's catering is a one stop shop. Our party was small, comparatively, 48 guests. A perfect menu, perfect venue, perfect bar service. The table settings were gorgeous. Communication was great. All of her staff were lovely, easy to work with and FUN! From the raw bar to the wedding cake, everything was exactly what we wanted and more. We got wonderful feedback from the guests on the whole event, especially her emphasis on procuring locally sourced food, and how beautiful the venue was with her table settings and arrangement of the space. It was a dream to work with someone so creative and flexible for our wedding. A lot of caterers wanted to know our budget first, but we knew what we wanted and had no idea what it would cost. Laura allowed us to tell her about our dream spread for our wedding and then she priced it out based on the things we really wanted. She was wonderful about making suggestions and adjustments and could even accommodate my vegan cousin who is also gluten free and deathly allergic to nuts and soy (yes, I know). We loved how mobile Laura was and that she was able to work at our site, but keep in mind that if you want her to work in more unusual locations that she will have to rent equipment to do her fine work with her staff. The process was incredibly creative and satisfying. She hosted a beautiful tasting in our own home for five (although I think only four are included). Laura's food was absolutely divine. We had our rehearsal dinner catered by her (as a drop-off): Pulled pork, cold bbq chicken, amaaaazing potato salad, corn pudding, cookie platter (you know-- exactly the kinds of foods you want to eat the night before you squeeze into your finery). Our wedding buffet included 5 delightful passed hors d'oeuvres, an epic charcuterie and cheese spread, a family style salad and bread course, and then a buffet of grilled bistro steaks and salmon, roasted vegetables and fresh summer salads. We were in heaven! Laura outsources wedding cakes, but she did make some amazing peach and apple hand pies as an alternative to wedding cake! Her bartender made a haymakers punch (switchel-- awesomely refreshing) and raspberry leaf iced tea and they were happy to serve the alcohol that we had purchased. We were incredibly happy with the wonderful service on the day of the wedding. The team she assembled to serve on the wedding day was incredibly friendly and professional. Five stars all around! *A quick suggestion to guests working with your caterer on a larger event is to dump e-mail contents/conversation tidbits into a Google Doc that you can share with Laura. There was a lot of back and forth on the phone and e-mail that got confusing at times. Do yourself a favor and keep it all in one sacred location! *Laura only took checks for our payments which was fine for us, but we would have appreciated being able to PayPal our payments as floating thousands of dollars in checks to the many vendors (none of whom took credit cards or PayPal) was rather nerve racking at times. read more

When Laura didn't get our full catering business for our daughter's wedding her communications from that point on were short, curt, and not very helpful. Her price tag was way to expensive but we did choose to use her for the vegetarian dishes we wanted to serve on the day of the wedding. On the day of the wedding she informed us that we had to pick up the dishes ourselves as she was too busy. What showed up was a horrible mess! Salad was afloat in eccess moisture, and the other items were tasteless and poorly prepared. She charged $1,400 for 4 small plastic containers of food, which could have been thrown together for less than $60 - and I was told this by a guest who is in the catering business. As a comparison, we had a vendor who provided lobster, steamers, corn on the cob, and cole slaw for over a hundred people for $3,200 - and they were hands on great with their service of 4 people working who were positive, helpful and great! I have tried calling Laura Cabot several times but she does not return calls. Do not waste your money as my family and I feel that we have been taken advantage of to an extreme level. Hired Laura for my wedding and couldn't be happier! Due to COVID, had to make some changes of course, but Laura was an absolute professional and joy to work with. Make sure you get a contract! Laura committed to cater our wedding but kept putting off the contract because she was "so busy". Not a problem we were flexible and willing to work with her. A month later she sends an email that someone else "threw money at her" so she could not cater our wedding that weekend anymore. Very unprofessional, and has left us in a bind. read more

Laura's food and professionalism were the only disappointment of our wedding weekend. Her pricing is through the roof-- especially for Waldoboro, Maine. We spent a week cutting from our menu trying to take down the price, we did our own desserts, our own setup of the venue and Laura's pricing was still $120/person for farm-raised salmon and chicken, salads and a couple of sides and simple apps like hummus. She also at one point did agree to come down to a reasonable price and then wrote us the next day saying that she had changed her mind. Then after all that, the food was so so cold and the dishes were hit and miss (chicken was nice, but Salmon was so dry and cold.) Her staff was the only bright spot (they were truly wonderful), but be warned that she demands that you pay them a $125 tip after telling you that you are already paying for $45/hour for each of them. We would have tipped them anyways, but I have never had a vendor tell you that you have to tip their staff. I would not recommend working with Laura Cabot. read more

We worked with Laura for appetizers for our wedding. We were looking for something unique with Middle Eastern and Mediterranean flavor. Laura delivered! I must say, as someone who regularly travels the Middle East, Laura's hummous is some of the best Ive had! Also a bit hit with our guests were the lavender & goat cheese purses, tabbouleh w/ farro and Lebanese green beans. It was evident that Laura used fresh ingredients and that she cooked with love. The food was the perfect compliment to our special day. If I had to critique anything, I would make 2 recommendations: 1) The muhammara would be better a bit more pureed and 2) The pricing could be more reasonable. All I have to say is: DEMAND A WRITTEN CONTRACT. We foolishly did not, and Cabot raised the promised price substantially right before our wedding, forcing us to hire a different caterer at the last instant. (Thank God, a caterer in Portland was able to step in and handle the job.) Meanwhile, Cabot was utterly oblivious to how unprofessional this conduct was. How Cabot manages to stay in business after treating customers this way is a mystery. Dec. 23, 2015: I have just come across the response that Laura Cabot posted in reply to my 2010 review, above. Her response contains an outrageously false statement. She claims that she contacted us "a month" before our wedding to let us know that her price had gone up. This is nonsense. Our wedding was on August 2. On July 25 she emailed me to say that her price had gone from $42 per person to $65 per person -- an increase of fifty percent! Never had she even hinted that the price could change so dramatically. That she raised the price in this way a week before our wedding was absolutely astounding. And she simply could not understand why we were upset -- and apparently continues to be mystified. Ms. Cabot, if you contest my version of events, I will be happy to forward you your own emails, which I have saved. read more

Her food always strikes the right note, managing to give the flavor of Maine but at the same time adding a note of elegance. We've been coming to Friendship to stay for 1 of 2 weeks in the summer for the past 30 years. We are a family of 4 and our best friends are also a family of 4. We come together with our children and over the years have made so many wonderful memories. This year we had 2 graduates in the family (high school and college). We wanted to do something special to celebrate them as the typical celebrations were very limited due to Covid. Laura Cabot graciously agreed to prepare a feast for our family that we were able to pick up curbside. The food was absolutely spectacular! Laura took care of every detail, down to the flower garnishes for the salad. Everything was cooked to perfection. The veggies and greens came straight from her garden. The halibut was sublime and the Mediterranean chicken was so flavorful. Laura prepared an appetizer selection to have with our cocktails before dinner, that could have been a meal all on their own. The portions were very generous. We will get to enjoy for lunch later today! The beautiful french pastry assortment was the perfect ending to the perfect meal. This lady knows her craft. Unprofessional and rude! LCC Catered our wedding this fall and was easily the weakest link of all of our vendors. We were so displeased and put off by the planning process that we were looking for alternative catering options up until 2 weeks before the actual event. Communication is lacking and professionalism is non-existent. The food was good in the end, but not worth the unnecessary stress of dealing with LCC. If you do decide to take a chance with them and use her bartenders, make sure you add extra wine to your shopping list for the staff to consume while cooking and consider an extra wedding cake since they helped themselves to a good chunk of ours! read more

While visiting mid-coast Maine recently I attended a wedding reception that was catered by Laura Cabot. It took place outdoors and included a full scale lobster dinner for over 150 people. Everything was beautiful, from the tents to the flowers, but I was especially impressed by the presentation and the quality of the food. Beautiful cheese platters, elegant passed hors d'oeurves, full bar service, etc. The food and setting struck just the right balance between traditional Maine fare and modern cuisine.
