I really like this place! I love bringing friends here when one or more people don't like beer. They have a TON of cider options, some sweet, and a good number of tart (which is my preference), but they also have beer and cold brew coffee from Pure Intentions. This past weekend I took some of my friends there to avoid the craziness that is a lot of other breweries on a Saturday afternoon.. and it was quiet, but not dead. We played shuffle board and board games and had a few ciders. Try the blackberry or cherry ciders! I recently went here with my gluten-free sister and beer-hating friend, and we enjoyed an alternative to the brewery scene. As a beer-loving girl, I happily took the bartender's recommendation for a snake bite, and it was really yummy. They had good beers on tap that mixed well with their ciders. My sister and friend both got flights, and I was impressed with the range of flavors. They had a wintery dark cider that was very delicious. My momma LOVES hard cider and this place has a great selection. She always gets the sampler so she can try the new flavors rather than committing to one. (Fortunately, she didn't have the same approach to pet adoption!) Best of all, four-legged creatures are allowed. So my momma & daddy & I all got to celebrate New Year's Eve together. They always have a bowl with packages of chips or pretzels so the humans don't drink on an empty stomach and end up on the floor with us pups. Thoughtfully, there is also a container of really yummy treats courtesy of Canine Cafe. They were so good, I wanted them all. Instead, my momma gave me a few and then bought me my own bag (peanut butter flavored) from the Cafe a few days later. Most of the times we've gone there has also been a food truck in the parking lot so we've been able to try those out. (Yes, I always get a taste, it's part of the deal I have with my parents.) The other dogs and people have always been nice and welcoming. The place is laid back and comfortable. This has become a regular spot for us. read more

What a welcome addition! This is the kind of place that truly has something for everyone. A few of my friends either don't like beer or can't drink it because of health issues, and Red Clay is a great alternative to the beer-only places in Charlotte. When I went, there were three ciders on tap: a semi-dry, a sweet, and a cranberry somethingorother. I tried and enjoyed them all, but I liked the sweet one the best. My wife and I wanted to do a flight, but the place was so busy that all of their flight-sized glassware was in use. More to drink? Not a problem! If cider isn't your thing, they have lots of other offerings. There was 3C IPA from Triple C, a wit from Sugar Creek, and HospitaliTEA from The Unknown on tap. Nice selection! Stuck driving your inebriated friends around? Not to worry! There's a great selection of non-alcoholic beverages as well. There was a ginger kombucha from Lenny Boy on tap, as well as bottled root beer Uncle Scott's in Mooresville, NC. They also have ginger beer, but I'm not sure who makes it. All of the employees were working their butts off when I visited, but they were very friendly and were happy to take the time to explain their ciders to me and answer some other questions I had. I learned that they're barrel aging some ciders, and I'll definitely be back when those are ready. As far a food goes, there are free snacks (bags of chips) inside, and there are rotating food trucks outside. Overall, it's a nice space. Finally dropped into this place and was pleasantly pleased. Flights of excellent cider varieties all made here and served on locally carved wooden boards in the shape of a boot print. They also have locally made cold nitro coffee, ginger beer, and uncle Scott's root beer that I love so much. By the way fellas, women love cider so expect to see groups of women here. It's great to see that the Charlotte craft drinking scene is expanding to offer more than just craft beer. From distilleries to now cideries, I love the options that I have on any given night. Red Clay is a great addition to the local Charlotte scene and boasts non-typical ciders for all tastes along with tons of other local drinking choices. Normally I'm one to stick to my basic bar orders. Local stouts and porters for the winter, local pale ales and IPA's for the summer, and a top shelf neat whiskey if I'm trying to impress my friends and grow hair on my chest. If you are like me, then thoughts of ciders bring into your mind over-sweetened beverages that are favored by the fairer sex during fall tailgate season. However, don't be fooled! Red Clay Ciderworks is putting out some high quality ciders that do not have any sugar added. My personal favorite is the Hoppin good Thyme, which as the name suggests, is dry hopped and infused with thyme giving it a crisp and bitter finish that I really enjoyed. My wife got a mix of the queen city common (their base cider) and ginger kombucha for a nice tangy kick! Be sure to watch yourself when consuming ciders, as most of their flagships are over 7%. I also appreciate that this place nods to all local crafts and taste buds. In addition to a solid selection of local guest draft beer, they also have wine, coffee on nitro (pure intentions!), and kombucha from Lenny Boy. This can make this a unique local destination if you have a diverse crowd of drinkers. The taproom is comfortable and rustic, and they do a great job turning their parking lot into a useful outdoor space. Some additional outdoor seating would be welcome, so don't hesitate to bring some camping chairs. All in all - I look forward to going back and expanding my tasting horizions. read more

I shared the Flight of four and got the Cherry, Cranberry, Charlotte Commons (dry) and the thyme cider. Then I had a glass of the South End Sweet. All were very unique, and dry, not overly sweet like many ciders. THe flight was perfect to test everything and, we picked the sweet afterward, since it we (rightfully) assumed that their sweet wouldn't be that sweet. They were all delicious, the flavors feel a tiny under aged/developed, but I'd certainly keep getting them. I like the simplicity and straightforwardness, you can bring your own food and grab your own water, it's really just about getting together and tasting some delicious cider. Me and my wife went there last Thursday night for trivia night. First time being there and really excited. Went to the bar and asked the bartender if I could try some Ciders so I know what I would want. She replied, "1 or 2 but after that you need to get a flight." Shocked by her response I asked to try the ginger cider. She replies "that one is hard to make I have to put ginger beer and such. It's just hard to try." So I checked this place out for their fall Cider fest. I'm happy to report the kinks have been worked out. Granted it was fall, so not hot outside, but the temp inside was comfortable. They ran out of cider on tap which was annoying, but it was busy. I no longer loath this place and the cider was yummy. Glad to have this as an addition to the Charlotte beer scene. read more

Finally a "brewery" for me! The fella loves some beer, and I go along to local breweries with him and try to enjoy the atmosphere, but I'm a cider lover at heart. We stopped in a little after 3:00 on a Saturday, and the front parking lot was full, so we found a spot around back. Thankfully, there was a space near the front door where we could stand and set our beers. We got in line under the "Order Here" sign at the bar, but people seemed a little confused about how/where to queue up. They had 4 ciders on tap, and a flight had 4 spaces, so there ya go! I saw someone else mention that they don't do flights after 3:00, but I didn't have any trouble, so maybe they relaxed the rules a little? Much to the fella's delight, they also have a few other beers on tap, so he got a Sycamore IPA. I was pretty impressed that they had an OMB Mecktoberfest since it was just being released by OMB that very day. The ciders were hit and miss - I liked 2 and forced the other 2 down my neck - but that's the joy of getting a flight. I'm excited to see what else they come up with since they haven't been open long. Inside was small, but they had a good mix of bar seats, a few high-tops, a long communal table, a seating area with comfy chairs, and a wall rail. This place has some AMAZING cider! After trying beer at a few breweries, it was nice to be able to end our trip with some delicious cider. And Red Clay has some really interesting and utterly tasty cider offerings. We decided to try a flight of four at first. We got the Queen City Common (a traditional semi-dry), Hoppin' Good Thyme (a dry hopped herbal cider), Cherry Bobbin' Trolls (a tart cherry cider), and a dry ginger cider (I can't remember the name, and it may have been a guest tap). The Queen City Common was good but just a little sweet for my taste. The ginger cider was good as well, with a wonderful bite from the ginger. However, the other two were absolutely AMAZING. The Cherry Bobbin' Trolls had a delightful cherry flavor and was a great balance of sweet and tart. The Hoppin' Good Thyme was probably the most interesting cider I have ever drank, with a nice taste of floral hops and the herbiness from the thyme (and maybe coridander?), which blended really well with the apple taste. We ended up ordering a full glass of these last two because they were so good. Next time I come I want to try the others and probably some of their guest taps (they had a Windy Hill and some other imported ciders on tap as well). If cider is not your thing, never fear - they have beer on tap from some of the other local breweries and some guest wines as well. They have a terrific space and a decent amount of parking as well. The have a large bar and several tables inside. They only have a few tables outside, and unfortunately not really anywhere else to set your beers down. If you come on the weekend, they apparently have a food truck outside as well. This place is also very dog-friendly and there were a lot of them there when we came. Customer service was quick and friendly here as well, and the prices were reasonable for flights and drinks for the quality. Oh yes, I will definitely be back next time in I'm in Charlotte. read more

So my wife and I decided to Check out the Red Clay Ciderworks with some friends who were in town. We checked it out because one of our guests is Gluten Free so Cider is there only thing they can drink. First I will say its a nice space and they have several options to check out as far as the cider goes. THey have their own brand on tap.Which were nice in flavor and very creative in design. They also had several other different brands on tap as well. They also had beer from some of the local Breweries as well. I will say everything was ok and it was good crowd for a saturday afternoon. I'm a big wine drinker and the Queen City Common reminded me a lot of a prosecco because it's a little dry, light, and bubbly!
