Burnt ends and Mac n cheese
    Nicole J.

Couldn't leave a Carolina without grabbing some BBQ! Midwood came up as one of the tops in Charlotte and their napkins boast about being one of the tastiest in the land. I couldn't agree more! I went with the burnt ends and Mac n cheese, which comes with a handful of hush puppies and delicious, crispy little pickled cucumber slices. The service was quick and friendly. It's a great place to grab a quick bite solo or with a group for lunch. I wished I lived here so I could sample more!

Happy America 250! Unfortunately, my Brisket Sandwich was not celebration worthy. I ordered it without cheese, which was apparently the main ingredient since something was clearly missing. The other order of pork bbq was ok but overly smoky, dry. fries limp. Hush puppies good, slaw good, salad very nice but we weren't there for the salads. Mac and cheese dry, pickled cucumbers spicy but good--not enough of them. Burnt ends REALLY burnt. Everything super salty and smoky. Very, very well done and dry. But the sandwich......the other half was the same. Where are some nice slices of brisket for the price of around $15.00? You can do better. Next time it's back to MACS! This at the Ballantyne location.

Just DELICIOUS. Nothing else to add- service was fantastic- food was fantastic and worth a 2nd, 3rd, 4th... visit. It feels like a Bbq joint- from the decor to the patio well done!!! If you decide not to come- your loss.

First time in Charlotte & had to get BBQ. Our server was wonderful. She explained the whole menu & made some great suggestions. We ordered the crispy wings which were absolutely perfect & the corn bread skillet for starters. Our main meal which was plenty to share was one of their platters. We chose the, chopped pork, beef brisket, Jalapeño cheddar sausage & ribs! It was served with quick pickles & hush puppies & 2 sides- which we had the bacon wrapped Jalapeño & collard greens. All of the food flavors were amazing. The one downside was our meal felt a bit rushed as our main platter came out within a few minutes of our starters and the temperature of the food on the main platter could have been warmer. If you are in Charlotte I would highly recommend checking them out & we will definitely be back!!

Knew what to expect before I arrived and what impressed me most was the customer service. I ate my meal at the bar and the bartender was engaging and helpful. My beverage was never less than half full and then the floor manager came over to check on me and ensured that I was getting proper service and food information. The ambiance was great and the dining area was clean and well attended. Of course it's playoff season so the video screens were full of activity. I had the baked beans as my side, Yummy, but even tastier was the cucumber jalapeño salad. I went away very happy and full even though I had the small plate brisket dinner. I will return!

Our server did double duty between the bar and us. He was awesome and so friendly. Food was very good. In love with their brisket. Exceptional seasoning along with the right amount of tenderness. Fan for life. Ambiance was good as it was not too crowded and service moved at a steady clip. Tex Mex bowl was enough food for two. Interesting arrangement as every bite revealed a new layer of delicious bites. Going back soon. Brisket and I made a ptomise. Worth checking out.

Midwood understands the assignment. I tried the burnt ends, hush puppies, mac and cheese, and collard greens. Every bite delivered. The burnt ends were smokey, tender, and downright dangerous. Hush puppies were hot and crispy, mac was rich and comforting, and the collards had that, slow cooked, soulful flavor you hope for. The service was friendly and fast. The inside needs some updating but it was lively (without being chaotic) and we were seated quickly for a Saturday night. Will be back!

We had the pick any four platter and shared. Added a third small side and cornbread. Ribs, burnt ends, sausage, and brisket Collard greens, Mac cheese, and sweet potato fries. Cornbread with honey and butter. OMG! You have to come here if in Charlotte! Service was outstanding, Anika was fabulous and food was outstanding.

As a foodie who recently moved to Charlotte from the San Francisco Bay Area--and a Texas native who takes barbecue pretty seriously--I was excited to try Midwood Smokehouse. It ended up being my first introduction to the local barbecue scene. I ordered a combination platter with ribs, brisket, and sausage, and overall it was a solid meal. I appreciated the dry rub on the meats since I tend to prefer that over heavily sauced barbecue. They also offer several different sauces at the table with a range of flavor profiles, which makes it fun to experiment and find the one you like best. The sides were good, though the portions felt a little on the smaller side. Prices are fairly reasonable compared to what I'm used to on the West Coast, though barbecue can still add up depending on what you order. A cold beer alongside the platter definitely completed the experience. Service was quick and efficient, which is always a plus. Parking can be a bit tricky since the lot is shared with other busy businesses (including an OrangeTheory), so it may take a little patience to find a spot. The restaurant sits in Plaza Midwood, which seems like a fun neighborhood to explore with lots of other spots nearby. Insider tip: Try the combo platter if it's your first visit--you'll get to sample several meats and figure out what you like best. Overall, a good introduction to Charlotte barbecue with quick service, flavorful meats, and a lively neighborhood atmosphere.

The service is amazing!!!! The place is clean and has a fabulous bar and the music is awesome. Just a cool place. The managers do come by and introduced and asked how things were and if I needed anything just to ask. Fabulous service! The food is definitely great BBQ and I'm from TX where BBQ is fabulous. The burnt beef ends are delicious and luscious. The macaroni and cheese was al dente and cheesy. The appetizer pimento fries w the brisket hit that spot for every mouth feel and taste bud in my mouth. Will definitely be back to try more menu items. I'm taking a desert home to test it. The Apple bread pudding with caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream was very delicious. I will definitely be back! This is a must try bbq restaurant.

Cuisine: 8 Service: 7 Decor: 7 Value: 8 Overall: 8 On a short business trip passing through Charlotte, I decided to stop by this popular BBQ joints in the area for the second time. I have heard tried them before, hence I knew it would be pretty good. Being a foodie, I got their Pig Out Combo Platter to try as many things as I can. Again. Lol. I'm glad to report that the overall experience was consistent with my first visit. Beef Brisket (8/10) - I could use a bit more smoke, but it was definitely tender and juicy. Saint Louis Style Pork Ribs (9/10) - This was my favorite item. Great flavor, nice bark, and super moist meat. Burnt Ends (5/10) - Tasted pretty good if you don't mind how dry and chewy they were. Carolina Style Pulled Pork (7/10) - Never been a big fan, though I thought this was one of the better versions I had. Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño (8/10) - These little suckers were delightfully yummy. Hushpuppies (7/10) - Once agin, not my thing, but they were actually very good. Hunter's Stew (4/10) - Never had this mishmash of flavors before and unlikely to order again. Note: They have four BBQ sauces for you to try and find your favorite. I like dry rub and the natural smoke flavor, so I didn't use much. What I did try were excellent sauces. My favorite two cuts of BBQ meats were memorable, hence I gave a higher score for food using a weighted average. I really enjoyed my BBQ. I'm not in Charlotte much, but I'll be back again when I'm nearby.

    Superior BBQ restaurant! Sat at the bar area and my server/bartender did a great job of aiding me with the menu options. . The combo platter came with 4 meats, 2 sides, hushpuppies and house pickles. - Carolina chopped pork: "dressed" in their vinegar sauce, super flavorful and the best meat on my plate; it did not reheat very well the next day - Saint Louis pork ribs (1/2 rack): their Carolina vinegar tasted great on the the meaty ribs; regular bbq sauce was very good, too - Beef brisket: I wasn't a huge fan, though it reheated wonderfully - Jalapeño cheddar sausage: good flavor but wasn't spicy or jalapeño-y - Hushpuppies and house pickles: enjoyed the hushpuppies; not a big fan of pickles - Mac and cheese (side): just ok - Baked beans (side): just ok (not what I came to for, though) - Banana Pudding: absolutely amazing! I'd come to Midwood, just for the dessert The next day I returned and tried their cornbread for a mid-afternoon snack. Prior reviews talked it up, and they were spot on. The skillet cornbread was a big size and was excellent;

Holy moly, they weren't kidding about the gigantic plates of meat!! Maybe I'm just used to smaller sized foods, but dang can NC serve a hefty barbecue meal! My partner and I happened to stumble across Midwood Smokehouse after having to journey 2.5 hours from Chapel Hill to Charlotte for furniture. Mixing the fatigue from the change of PST to ET time, the long commute from UNC to Charlotte, the humidity, the rain, and all, this meal was THE perfect meal to have as first comers of the Southeast! We tried their heavenly brisket with their house specialty sauce, along with an additional serving of their cola sauce, and hush puppies, rack of ribs with slathered in their house special sauce, and a nice plump jalapeños and cheddar sausage. Man, I'm starting to drool just thinking about this. Even though this was a heavy meal, we ended up coming back two times in a row! I felt a little bit embarrassed if the server up front would notice me. Regardless, she treated me nicely the first and second time I went to get takeout! Wondering what it'd be like to sit down and eat. All meats were cooked to pure perfection. No bite of dryness whatsoever. Man, I'd love to eat this again for the first time. We also had a nice serving of gooey mac n' cheese!!! I'm definitely bringing family and friends here if they come visit! Thankfully, we don't have to travel to Charlotte for this divine barbecue! We've got one in Raleigh, so we definitely will check it out in the near future!!

I'm looking for tender fall-off-the-bone BEEF RIBS. Hare to find in Charlotte. Do you seel them?

They have beef tips that are amazing. I shared two orders with my kids and grandkids. Dont recall seeing the actual beef rib on the menu..

Do the baked beans have any other meat beside pulled chicken?

The baked beans don't have any chicken, but they do have pulled pork and Worcestershire sauce.

Does it matter which location we go to for the best Midwood experience?

Everyone has their favorite! But they are all excellent. Each pit master at each location has been trained by our Executive Pit Master Matt Barry. I think it really just depends which one is the most convenient to you.

Are you open on New Years Day?

    Yes!

Do you take reservations for party of 10?

The Plaza Midwood location does not, but the Park Road location does!

Vinegar sauce really came through, almost a little too much. - Hush puppies were good. The only item that wasn't acidic, so it helped balance my meal. - Collard greens were also good. - Pickles were ok. By itself they were fine, but combined with the pork in vinegar sauce, it was too much acid for me overall. Service was pleasant and attentive. No issues. Overall, I was happy with my meal. It was generally good food and service. I'd just be more careful with picking my side so the entire dish was more balanced.
