I'm a big fan of Red Room escape rooms! I've done a few at the Fashion Valley location and found out there's one in Encinitas--right near where I live. So excited about that! I've completed three rooms so far, and we recently beat a level eight room. It was such a fun challenge and super rewarding! I've tried the Survivor, Enchanted, and Relic rooms. The Enchanted and Relic rooms are definitely my favorites--creative, immersive, and just the right amount of tricky. Survivor wasn't my top pick, but I still had a blast. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the experiences are consistently well-designed and fun. So much fun, went for my son's 9th birthday and did the Enchanted Forest. I was initially skeptical how well a group of 9 year olds would do in an escape room, but with the hints they were very successful and had a BLAST. All of them said what a great time they had, everyone working on site was fun and engaging, they were very supportive of a neurodivergent child we had in our group. We had a very unfortunate experience at this location. Specifically with their Lost Treasure room. It's billed as a 6/10 difficulty room, but it's only an "escape room" by the loosest of definitions. It's instead an almost completely digital video game where you steer a submarine and shoot at monsters. Seemed to be a direct rip-off of the game Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, but with physical controls for the engine and guns. Barely any puzzles, and what few there were extremely basic, a far cry from the 6/10 rating given. To make matters worse, one of the physical components in the room was broken, making it an all around disappointment for everyone involved. Do not do this if you're expecting an escape room. read more

My friend saw a promo for this new escape room in Encinitas & had to check it out! They have 4 rooms- Enchantment, Survive, The Relic, Lost Treasures. Their rooms are 45 minutes instead of 1 hour. The Relic: The gamemaster was super fun & totally got into the act. We were able to escape with 4 people. The puzzles in the room were cool & fun, but there were a few times where we had to call out for help because we believed we solved the puzzle right, but it was not leading us to anything. Turns out we did solve the puzzle correctly but the magnets or whatever just were not syncing up, like you had to put it in the perfect spot in order to move on. Nonetheless, it was a fun date night activity! read more

We did the Enchantment room with 5 of us (two adults, three teenagers). It was a blast! There was enough in the room to do where nobody was idle. We did the Relic room and it was pretty good. All the staff we interacted with was very friendly and professional. The game master was helpful and provided clear instructions. The room was organized well and the puzzles were interesting. They were complicated, but not overly complex, except for one. The room itself was a small room. Had such a great experience at the Encinitas location! I was looking to do something fun for my bday and decided on an escape room. After reaching out to a few places, only 1 place reached back out to me via a phone call. The manager Matt from Red Door reached back out to me and was super helpful and provided some great info and pricing. Me and my fiancé live down the street so we decided to pop in and see if we could check out the place before we booked. The staff Hannah and Matt greeted us and took us back to the rooms and even showed us the control room. It was so cool! The day finally came and me and my group of friends (10 people) split up into 2 rooms and raced to beat each other. The staff was so animated, friendly, and kind! Truly couldn't have picked better people to work there. The few staff members I remember are - Selena and Zoie! We were all so pumped after finishing and can't wait to go back once they open up 2 new rooms! Thanks so much for making my bday weekend so fun Red Door Escape Room! My family and I just went here for the first time and did the Survive room. While we aren't experts by any means, we've done several escape rooms in various cities, and this was our least favorite. First of all, every room we've ever done has been an hour, but the Red Door rooms only give you 45 minutes. The pricing is pretty standard for escape rooms, but considering that you get less time than in other locations (which means you'll probably lose on the harder games), it feels overpriced. Secondly, we solved the last piece of the main puzzle, but nothing registered. We quadruple-checked the numbers and confirmed they were correct, but the system didn't work, so we lost. We even asked the guy who came in to collect us, and he seemed to confirm the numbers were correct, but then he said "I don't really know; we're pretty busy today," a polite way to kick us out instead of checking to see if the game was even functioning properly. He then told us there were easier room a we could try-- I thought he was offering us a free game for their failings, but it turns out he was just politely telling us that we shouldn't have tried such a difficult room (8/10 rating). When I reflected later, I realized he was basically telling us the room was too hard for us, even though the issues were literally the puzzles not working. He also admitted that one of the first things we had to do didn't work (trying not to give away clues here), after we mentioned it. We had spent some time going back and forth thinking we hadn't done that piece correctly, but come to find out it just didn't work. So that ate up some of our limited time in the room, and the fact that at least two things didn't even work is just unacceptable. Thirdly, like another reviewer mentioned, there are 4 extra puzzles that you can try to solve after solving the main puzzle. The clues for these are confusing when you're trying to solve the main puzzle, and they end up acting like red herrings for your main objective. Next, the room is very small. My husband mentioned that he prefers when there is a second room you have to find entry into-- which has been the case at every other venue we've been to. But not only is there no second room, but the one room you do get is really tiny, which makes it less interesting to explore. The 3 of us were on top of each other at points, so I can image that 6 people would be way too many. Lastly, they started us 10+ min past our appointment time, and when we asked for hints, the person answering us didn't know where we were in the game and what we needed help with (both times we asked). Usually, there is a dedicated person who knows what you need when you ask for a help. Just felt a little understaffed or disorganized. Overall, it was fairly fun, but the room wasn't that well designed and did not function properly, and they don't give you enough time to solve such a complicated puzzle. Well, we actually could have come in right down to the wire if the last piece of the puzzle actually worked. We wouldn't have had enough time to do the extra 4 puzzles, though, but that's ok. Staff is friendly, especially the young woman at the front desk. The rest of the staff members were kind but seemed a little unconfident in their knowledge of the room and pretty frazzled by the need to scurry people in and out. We'll probably go back someday, but this definitely isn't my first choice since the game didn't operate properly. My husband and kiddo feel satisfied that we accomplished our goal, even if the game didn't register it, but it's still kind of annoying, especially when you spend over $100 for 45 minutes and don't get the satisfaction of the room working. read more

We went to survive escape room. It was our least favourite escape room we've ever done; our family has done 10 escape rooms so far. It was too dark, boring, chaotic, and several of the clues are actually only once you solve the main room ( it just makes it more confusing, and not in a cool way).
