What the heck happened last night? This was my third trip to Red Fish and normally we enjoy ourselves, but this was not the case on this particular visit. Red Fish did not lose stars for the food. The food is great, and I like their sushi. I wish the spicy rolls had more spicy-ness, but overall it's good food. The service here went from good to just God-awful. The last time I was here, it was my sister's birthday and there were 8 of us and we were so happy with our experience. I don't know what happened in about six months, but good lord! Our server took our order: edamame as an appetizer, and 4 sushi rolls for dinner. The sushi was made in less than 10 minutes, then I saw it sitting on a counter for another 10 minutes as employees walked by it. The edamame was delivered to our table after we already started eating sushi. The best part of the service was that our drinks were refilled often. People were seating themselves at one point because the hostess was sitting at a table talking on her cellphone. They have a dirty dish bucket where the servers dump everything out in the floor of the restaurant, gross. I felt like I was in some weird Twilight Zone version of Red Fish. Our server brought us our check before we were finished eating. I just felt like we were inconveniencing the staff just by being there (7:30 on a Saturday night, too). Whoever is running the place seriously needs to up their standards of service. I won't be back for a while, and I'm sad because I like their food. read more

Ive been here when it was called by a two different names but the food has never been as good as it is now. Is this the pinnacle of sushi in Memphis....? If you review the online menu, you'll see bento boxes on their "early bird" special list, ending at 6 or 630 pm. The place was dirty, really dirty. Our favorite sushi joint and some of the most fresh and creative sushi I've eaten in and around the Memphis area. Great Chinese dishes, too. My favorite rolls: Batman, Hot Dragon, Redbird. My only complaint would be their need for a MUCH improved wine selection. I've tried several choices there, and they are always subpar in taste. This has to be the best sushi in the Tennessee area. I was visiting my sister out here and everywhere I went to have sushi here it just didn't taste fresh. This might just be me as I live in Seattle and it doesn't get any fresher then that. The service here is great and they seem to be right on top of things. They also seem to be very popular with the locals as it was packed with lines out the door on the weekends. That's when we decided to come back during the week and it was less crowded. This restaurant has previously done well with takeout and we have been faithful customers for years. However recently on two occasions we received beef lo mein and beef fried rice with 2 to 4 pieces of beef. Initially we thought it was a mistake and because we enjoy their food we tried again. Upon this visit we explained to them what happened and they advised us oh no it's only supposed to have four pieces. So paying excessive money for noodles and rice is not in our future plan.....It's not hard to provide those dishes with adequate protein in a dish called BEEF fried rice or BEEF lo mein. Best Asian joint in Lakeland, especially for sushi. We live close by so we visit often. Among my favorites are the Mix Roll, Redbird Roll and Volcano Roll. The hibachi is good. Not the best in Memphis, but definitely good especially since its quick and convenient. Somewhat pricey for the quality, but you do get a lot of food. Red Fish is a nice local Asian restaurant. There are not a lot of restaurant options in the Lakeland area and Red Fish is a good choice for the area. It is located off Hwy 64 in the old Hunan Pacifica location. The sushi is good, I have tried a variety of the rolls and have never been disappointed. It's a good place to come with a group since you have choices between sushi, Japanese and Chinese items. We brought the family and everyone got something different. The Chinese food- fried shrimp, chicken and broccoli was great. It was fresh, hot and large portions. I also liked the egg rolls, not too greasy and filled with lots of goodies. There is a small bar area which would be fun for a date night but not big enough for more than a few people. They serve beer and wine. read more

We love Red Fish!!! We live right down the road and order their takeout often. They have an extensive selection of sushi and all of it is well worth the price. Our top favourite is the Blossom Roll which is topped with heaps of chopped (raw) fish in a special, spicy chef's sauce. Only $9.95 but worth so much more. Hubs and I have travelled through the menu a few times and love everything we get. Tonight we had: 2 egg rolls, which are served with their own, delicious dipping sauce; Crab Puffs, sweet, creamy, crunchy heaven; Sweet & Sour Chicken, very large portion and always amazing; Kung Pao Chicken, which my husband says is comparable to Wang's Mandarin House (in other words, delicious); both entrees we substituted fried rice. Our Sushi selections were the Superman Roll, a new one for us, and the Blossom Roll, our usual. The Superman Roll is $11.95 and is one of their pricey-est but OMG is it amazing. It is twice the height of a regualr roll, because of everything on top. It has so many flavours and is a new favourite. Although we didn't get them tonight we also reccomend the Egg Drop Soup, Miso Soup, Clear Soup, and Hot and Sour Soup. All fresh made, in house. The chef(s) really care about their food. Stopped in on a Friday night. We were seated fast and the manager got our drinks. They were way understaffed for a Friday night as there were only 3 servers and 2 managers helping out. Not a bad restaurant atmoshpere. I love the boat in the center of the dining room. Just moving to Memphis, we wanted to try the sushi. So here it goes! The food was mediocre... nothing special! The sushi chef lacked the ability to really bring the flavors in a roll together. The amount of "crunchies" was overwhelming. They delivered a house salad with ginger dressing with at least half an inch of water in the bottom of the bowl, probably from shocking the lettuce and the ginger dressing left a weird sour after taste. Took the waitresses recommendation for this "Jimmi Boi" roll... not good and very expensive! The other roll, eel, was served with skin from the eel instead of taking the time to skin it. The rainbow roll had fresh salmon but it again lacked any flavor. Overall, nice atmosphere and friendly staff but the food was lacking. read more
