    Combo: Jajeongmyun and Tangsuyuk

Red Gem is one of my favorite local spots for Jajeongmyun (korean/chinese black bean noodle), which is popularly paired with sweet and sour pork! As of recently they JUST added a combo entree where you get both. Before they were separate so I love this option. The parking lot is a bit small, but I highly recommend you try this comfort dish out if you are in the south Tacoma way area!

The Red Gem is similar old-fashioned Korean-Chinese food taste I get at Orange County, CA. I'm just traveling through town. It's hard to find good old-fashion Korean-Chinese food when you're traveling. If you're from Orange County, CA, you know the spot in Garden Grove. The Red Gem had a similar vibe. Jjam Ppong's spicy level was good and seafood flavor was much better here compared to home. I think you can typically ask to raise the spicy level. The service could be better but it's typical for Korean place. When I walked in, the lady asked me what I wanted to order. No menu was was offered. I would've got more food but I get it. I'm a solo eater so she assumed I'm ordering the routine food. Jjajang or Jjamppong both popular dish. I would come again if I'm ever in town again.

Very decent Koreanized Chinese dishes 4*, absolute minimum service 2*, basic ambience 3.5*. Oh! And sadly no kimchi side available! But there is raw onions with black bean sauce and yellow pickled radish, which were crispy and delicious. Comes with big bowl of white rice. Large portion can feed 2 people. $39.99. 4* YangJangPi assorted seafood (shrimp & jellyfish), beef & veg with mustard sauce (ordered to go and it came presented very nicely so just need to take off the cover and toss together with the side of dressing) S$39.99 L$54.99. 4* Service very hard to get the server to hear you calling her. Go up to the counter to pay. Located closest to NE corner of S Tacoma way & S 68th St

I want to give Red Gem 4 stars but I'll give it 3, in the most loving way possible. There isn't anything bad/wrong about this restaurant. If you're looking for decent Korean-Chinese food in the area, this would probably be my go-to. Everything tasted good, just wasn't mind blowing, which is fine! The tangsuyuk was hot and crispy and hit the spot. My family came from Bellevue to Tacoma for jajangmyeon and I thought it was just okay. Nothing too special about the jajangmyeon. I personally ordered the jjamppong/jajangmyeon half and half and thought the jjamppong soup was too much, I think it needed to have more water because the taste was pretty overwhelming.

Entire meal, approximately 49 dollars. No rice included.

I've been wanting to try this place out for years. My sister mentioned that this was her go to place for Chinese/Korean fusion. I am definitely impressed. I love being able to support our businesses during COVID. Atmosphere: spacious, big enough to seat 20 people. Clean. Staff: Korean is their primary language, friendly if not a bit hurried. They had 4 calls within the 10 minute wait, while I was there. A testament to how tasty their food is. Foods: I am extremely picky about my Asian foods. I do not like overly fried anything. No need to fret, this place is worth it! Sweet and spicy chicken: this dish was delicious, each bite was perfectly fried, with their signature dipping sauce on the side. The sauce is different than most "authentic" Asian places. It had just the right amount of tang, (from pineapple chunks, I think). Their sweet and spicy pork was phenomenal! Perfectly seasoned, and you can actually taste the meat, with no need to drink copious amount of water afterwards. I ordered the Jiajiang myeon, with their spicy seafood soup. They have a combo for that. The black bean sauce for the noodles were absolutely divine, different than the Chinese version, but nevertheless DELICIOUS. Cons: Everything was hot and tasty, but my seafood soup had one mussel, and about two bites of octopus. I was hoping for more of seafood medley. But there was more onions and broth than seafood.

Very good service, didn't wait more than 10 minutes, and the prices were reasonable.. Will visit there again!!

Service sucks. Food is OK, but jjangmyeon and the spicy seafood soup is probably the most popular there and close to authentic.

I definitely shouldn't have thought jajangmyeon as my first option but I was also super hungry and it was the cheapest thing on the menu, while I was also thinking it wouldn't take that long. Plus they were open early which was great as we were in the area around 10am! When we arrived, there was a older gentleman who greeted us then looked like he was prepping for the day. He can speak Korean and English just fine too. Once we were ready, we placed an order of jajangmyeon and egg rolls and he brought us out banchan. I did ask for more daikon but he seemed to have forgotten or maybe left as his daughter was there delivering food, tea and taking orders. She was a lot more attentive, she would check in on customers and was very friendly! Also it turns out that my boyfriend's friend who he has known since high school was that female employee, so for those saying the owners have changed, they have not. There is plenty of seating at this food court as well as other options from sushi, Korean food and and this spot that serves Korean-Chinese food. The lighting here is a bit dark but it is light enough to take different photos. It's not too cold nor hot either. You can also leave your plates, utensils and trash on the table and someone will come get it. The jajangmyeon was really good, I was surprised as I feel like there aren't too many places that have good jajangmyeon in Lakewood but I can say it is way better than the other places that serve in the area. I usually don't scoop up the sauce but it was actually really good. They offer kimchi, onion and daikon for their side dishes which I think is perfectly fine. They do offer refills and when I asked for more daikon, the kind female employee even gave me extra vinegar. My boyfriend said the egg roll was pretty good too. We look forward to coming back!
