Egg roll on a bed of onions
    Ashley F.

I would've given this place a lower rating but the female employee who took my order was very kind and friendly so I added 2 stars. The reason for my disappointment is because this is a Korean restaurant pretending to be a Chinese restaurant. It is called Peking Garden Chinese Restaurant but the flavors are not Chinese at all. The wonton soup was an egg drop soup. I've never seen wonton soup with broth that wasn't clear. The consistency was thick and gelatinous not a thin broth. The chow mein was made with a flat rice noodle and not the round egg noodle. The flavor was also sweet which is not how Chinese chow mein should taste. The beef and broccoli tasted similarly and overall the entire meal was a let down. Note: this restaurant is in the food court of Pal-Do market in Lakewood.

I've only eaten their jajangmeon and sweet and sour pork and it always hits the spot for me. I love going here because the service is quick. Staff are super nice as well.

This was absolutely delightful-the service was fast but pleasant, and our food came with some kimchi, bean paste, raw onion and daikon radish. We comfortably split this platter for two and were satisfied with the portion. Their pork was wonderful-I would love to come back for more food here, and I loved the combination of the kimchi with the Szechuan pork.

Was stopping by after eating Outback, I was still hungry for some food. I was craving for my black bean sauce noodle. I was looking at Yelp to see where to go find one. This place shows up and I decide to give it a try. The location of this place is actually located inside a Asian grocery market at the food court. They have couple other restaurant there too as well. I ordered the half and half. The black bean sauce noodle and the sweet and sour pork. The service there is very friendly and welcoming and as for the food. It's alright, not the best I have. The sweet and sour pork was tasted too plain like they forgot to season it or something. As for the black bean sauce noodle. It wasn't bad or good, but I still finished it because I was hungry. Overall, decent place if you want to try some comfort Korean food.

Yum! $5 for jjajjangmyun with side dishes of kimchi and daikon is such a deal. Took my friend here and it was her first time eating this dish, and she was amazed. A clean restaurant selling black bean noodles is hard to find, so this place gets a top review! It is located inside paldo world shopping center in the back The servers are twins, and they are the sweetest. You get your money's worth eating here with big portions. To go them for a snack later or meal the next day.

Ask the Community - Peking Garden

    Are they still open?

Yes. They are still open. I was there on Tuesday. They close for one day a week - I think Wednesday?

Do they use MSG? I'm pregnant and curious?

Plenty of American food has MSG. It's a naturally occurring substance, not something from a lab. It's in most seasoning salts.

The teriyaki chicken is warmed up, so the two come out different temperatures and one seems lukewarm and the other piping hot. I buried several pieces of my chicken so the rice would warm it up. I would have rather had the chicken on top of the rice for heat and I'll ask next time, because there will definitely be a next time. And paying 4 extra for fried rice is a bit much compared to others but it was pretty good fried rice so again, no complaints.

The Korean food is listed in Korean...so unless you ask questions, you may not know what you're ordering. In the past I have tried the Bulgogi, which is good and comes with banchan--but a little pricey. This time around we chose Mongolian Beef and Teriyaki Chicken with Gyoza. The Mongolian Beef was not good. I didn't care for the sauce, the meat was chewy, and the styrofoam noodles were rancid--and there were a lot of them! The actual portion size was pretty small. The salad on the plate with the Teriyaki and Gyoza was big chunk of lettuce with a giant glob of dressing--pretty unappealing. Service was mediocre. There were flies buzzing around as we ate. I think we are the only Americans in here right now. Pretty busy for dinner. Not really sure that we would return, better places in the area. Overall 2.5 rating.

During my second visit, the hostess went out of her way to try to seat us in the very back of a nearly empty restaurant.. The food was okay. The floor to and in the women's restroom was terribly sticky. Not good. On my third and final visit, again, the hostess passed several empty tables to try to seat us in the back of the restaurant. Plus, our waitress, who took at least 10 minutes to come to our table, could barely understand English. I ordered chicken curry, but she repeated some unrelated combo. I told her "no". Then, I pointed to my desired dish on the menu and repeated my order. Unfortunately, she messed up my simple order, and I received an unwanted shrimp dish. It took three wait staff and about 20 minutes to correct my order. By that time, my boyfriend was about half way through his meal he graciously offered to share. Interestingly and oddly enough, the waitress, who finally brought me my correct order, profusely apologized to my boyfriend with barely a glance my way. What an insult! That night, they lost two customers. Goodbye, Yen Ching.

Yen Ching Restaurant popped up when I was searching for another place to order mapo tofu from that was within a 10 minute drive. Yelp made it super convenient for me to order directly on the app through Grubhub. The order came out to be less than $17 for pickup. The food was ready in about 30 minutes or so. Our order of mapo tofu also came with rice, two fortune cookies, and utensils and napkins! This was my first time ordering from this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by the experience, as well as the meal! I would consider coming back again.

I'm one picky 70yr. old who knows fresh dim sum from frozen. Since moving to Tacoma area from King County, I missed my dim sum from international district aka Chinatown. Harbor city brought back the flavor & I'm so thankful. Most of the places that served some dim sum out this way, you can tell were frozen and low quality. As for the Ambiance... well I have to admit, they do deserve a much better place. When looking on the outside, it's hard to imagine how good their food is. Yet again, I always told my children and grandchildren ... it's always the small & hole in the wall places that can be the best to eat at.

The food is still top notch and the service is speedy. But the restaurant is now very warm. The floors are really slippery so be careful, but it's a nice fast paced Chinese restaurant you can get dim sum instead of the normal yum cha times of seattle Chinatown. If you want really good Chinese food at breakneck speeds, want to feel like you're at your Chinese ma's house as she's yelling at the kids in the background, this is it! We even had a loud Chinese conversation that I had to tell my husband "shes not angry, just very busy and trying to get orders out". The only annoying thing is their uber eats notification is consistently on fire. Dinged enough to notice it through the entire meal.
