This place is amazing! The only reason I had to give it 4 stars is because it is seriously overpriced. But delicious! I loved the Vietnamese summer roll with the mangoes, they should all have mangoes in them... I tried the cloudy sake, that was okay. The king crab roll, inside out was very average, nothing special about it and it was smaller than I expected for $18, felt like it was a rip-off. Red Ginger was pretty darn good last night. We had an early reservation so we could make our movie next door at the State Theater. While at first we literally had the place to ourselves, before we finished it was SRO. Calamari appetizer- great! Wakame salad- great! Shrimp tempura maki- delicious! Why the four stars, then? Well, first of all, I don't like it when they have runners deliver the food to the table. They have no idea who gets what, and as can happen, my rice did not come out and now you sit waiting to find the waitress because the runner has no idea what is supposed to be served, and has left the table. Rylan Rocks! popped in on a busy Wednesday night , hoping to get lucky and and not have a one hour wait. Found a spot on corner of Sushi bar , Rylan was quick to spot us and attentive even though she had multiple tables. she even managed to smile and deal with some entitled annoying chicago people that were also seated at bar. we got to watch the boys make sushi like the experts they are. food was quick and Rylan kept checkinnon us. Pretty dang good sushi. The nigiri and sashimi is where it's at. Fresh, delectable, flavorful and made with all the right portions per piece. The specialty rolls are beautiful and tasty as well although some are more run of the mill. The drinks are served hard and heavy. I was very buzzed after one but I'm a bit of a light weight. I couldn't give five stars though, since the service just isn't that good. Unfriendly even. The servers seem to disappear for long periods of time and the food takes a while to come out on their busier nights. But overall this is a great night on the town restaurant or good for a special date night. Tip: Make a reservation well in advance for peak tourism seasons or you'll be waiting all night to get in. read more

An amazing fusion of Asian standards from an American perspective. The very freshest of ingredients and seasonings made every dish pop. We hosted a group of Texans and everyone enjoyed everything. Well. I'm bummed. I came here for date night with my boyfriend. On a Friday, with reservations, we drove over an hour each way for the "incredible" experience we heard about from everyone we had spoken to. The menu was creative. We were excited to try a number of items on the menu. We would have really enjoyed some more interaction with our waitress - some recommendations or some guidance. Instead we were left alone for long periods of time, being visited only as often as necessary to get our order and deliver it. We weren't checked on during our dining experience. The rolls were good. We had the RG Trio, figuring the Chef's recommendations would suffice in the absence of the service staff's. I would've liked to have tried a few other rolls and we planned to order two more, but our waitress finally stopped by ten minutes after we finished our trio and completely cleared the table, including chopsticks and sauce dishes, before asking if she could "do anything else for us". We declined. She then brought us our check without so much as offering a dessert menu. I am a sous chef in another state. I look forward to dining out and have been excited about exploring Traverse City for quite some time. As a person who has no qualms about spending money for quality food, quality service, quality cocktails & after dinner treats like coffee, cocktails & desserts... Booked a table in advance - could only get 8:45pm which was fine, gave time for an evening stroll along the lake. RG on Front St, which is closed to traffic and many restaurants have outside dining which is lovely and gives a European flavor. Very busy even at that time. My husband not to happy with our table (in the middle surrounded by other tables which were all full). Think they would have done better not to have the two middle ones. Not sure 6ft between us and other tables. That is my only negative. Our waiter was wonderful, great recommendations and the food was truly excellent. This was very disappointing. The decor is refined and the service is quick and friendly but the food is a huge let down. We ordered the Yuzu, Wasabi Tuna, and Tunagi sushi rolls as well as an order of chicken tikka masala. The Tunagi was the best item we had, but everything was bland and lacking flavor for the price. I highly recommend reservations! Even with all of the COVID restrictions they made our dining experience great. The atmosphere is modern with dim lighting. My visit was for a Saturday happy hour. The hh menu is small but plenty to enjoy. The bar area opens before the dinner hour, and proves to be a nice respite from the main street. Enjoy the main street view in the air conditioning, with a nice glass of wine and sushi roll. I also ordered the calamari which was not on happy hour. It was a bit chewy, but I loved the flavor. For $16 the portion was small. Be warned - this order also includes pieces with the legs. The quality of the salmon in the salmon maki was excellent. The shrimp tempura roll too was excellent. They do not have outdoor seating but their enclosed patio enjoys nice views of the river. The service was professional. Of course they will say everything on the menu is outstanding, but that doesn't help me make a decision when asking about certain dishes. Everything exceptional but the day we were there Friday of last week it was so noisy we had to shout at each other to hear our conversation. Not great for an anniversary celebration. Even though the host tried to accommodate us the other table was just as noisy. Folks were screaming just to be heard. Unfortunately we won't be back for their great food and service. Stopped at Red Ginger for the first time in a while during a visit to family in TVC. Not much has changed and that's a good thing. The food quality and portion size are excellent. The menu is good, consisting of all asian offerings. I wish there were more plant-based selections, but we veggies managed to find something good. The drinks are well-crafted and generous. I used to live in the area and Red Ginger was one of my favorite restaurants so we always make an attempt to return. We ordered 4 different roles, and for the price, it was the most mediocre sushi. One roll was the Spicy Salmon roll and it did not taste fresh and I was terrified I'd get food poisoning, I was thankful I was wrong. The restaurant is still beautiful, the staff is always pleasant, but the food/price no longer makes it worth it. Appreciate that they clearly mark gluten free items on the menu. I had low expectations going in, and it didn't meet them. It wasn't horrible, but it's hard to find other positives. The spicy "tuna" maki was rather gross - some sort of paste in rice and nori. Skip it. Both entrees (Thai curry and chicken Pad Thai) were under-seasoned and relatively bland. They both would have benefitted from some heat and some seasoning besides sweet. The wine was expensive, and so too were the entrees.
