I ordered several meals for pick up to take on a weekend getaway with friends. Two of the orders were the Tofu combo which included "Fried Rice" - the on-line menu only said "Fried Rice", it does NOT mention that it is "Chicken" Fried Rice. Much to my great disappointment, and embarrassment, the "Fried Rice" wasn't just "Fried Rice" - it was "Chicken" Fried Rice!!! My two Vegan friends could not eat the Chicken Fried Rice so only had the small amount of tofu for their meal. I would think you would realize that if someone is ordering tofu, rather than one of the many other protein (meat) options, that you would know NOT to give them "Chicken" Fried Rice! I tried to share this info with them on their Contact Us form, but the multiple times I tried to 'Send Message' - "Something went wrong" and it wouldn't send. The best Chinese food in the entire area, and it's not even close. Egg/Spring Rolls made from scratch, the best I've had in decades. Top quality dishes, every one is on par or better than I've ever had. Free egg roll or soup with any meal is such a great deal. The atmosphere is excellent, nice decor with pleasant Chinese instrumental music playing. The servers are nice, polite, and helpful when taking orders. Though they tend to not check in often after you've received your food. Ignore the dumpster fire of a buffet, and just order off the menu. Party of 3, not one was happy @ our lunch table. The sweet n sour was a weak, thin vinegar sauce, same as is on the table to use for egg rolls and just as cold that they poured onto our food. The meat was tiny chunks, heavily breaded formed deep fried balls and the taste was missing . To accompany the breading were two tiny slices of pineapple and green pepper, cold and nothing was sautéed. No onions. There was a side of heavily laden soy rice, perhaps fried, not sure. This meal was totally inedible with one note from all 3 diners, the tiny cup of egg drop soup was hot and passable. In addition, the waiter only had 3 other tables but sure didn't like to be bothered at all. He wanted us to take our dishes from him and place them in front of us is. This once noted special luncheon stop has fallen into actual shame. When a restaurant notices that nothing is eaten, they should start fixing whatever is broken and this restaurant is indeed that poor right now. read more

Without a doubt, the best Almond Boneless Chicken in Traverse City. Enjoyed the Seafood Wor Bar and Yang Chow Fried Rice as well. Don't come for the ambiance (70's decor but comforting for me) just the food. Large portions too with leftovers. Had lunch here earlier today Sunday, I used to eat here often when I lived in TC. Everything on the buffet was Luke warm nothing was hot and I was there before noon. This restaurant has gone downhill from a few years ago. We visit TC several times a year and have yet to find a superb Chinese Restaurant and we've learned to accept average, but China Fair doesn't even make that low bar. We ordered two entrees. Wife had the Broccoli Beef. It was served cold, and the broccoli was almost raw. The soup was pretty goo But there was very little beef but a lot of broccoli. My meal was Tso's Chicken. Served cold too. The chicken was way overcooked and dry. My egg roll was cold. There were only 3 other tables being served so there was no excuse for the kitchen putting out poor food and the server letting it sit too long before serving. There are too many options for Chinese food in TC so we won't be going back anytime soon. read more

This is the first time that my wife and I have eaten at this restaurant - since we live over 100 miles away up near THE Bridge! My wife is flying out of TC tomorrow, and we will be back in the future as it is much cheaper flying out of CherryLand than out of Pellston. We both love Chinese food, and everything that we ordered was fantastic - great taste, great price, good quantity, great quality, ... However, as good as the food was, the service was even better. I gave the restaurant "5 Stars", but I want to give Phyllis, our server, "10 Stars." The next time one of flies out from here - or just drive down for an afternoon jaunt - we will be eating here, and we will ask if Phyllis is available. Whenever I get particularly bad product or service, I go on Yelp to warn other potential customers; thus, to be fair, when I get great product or service - both of which were exceptional here - I make a review to reward the restaurant and staff, and to turn other people on to that company. A last-minute recommendation from a patron leaving China Fair as we were about to walk in was not enough to wash away the reality that this is a very average Chinese restaurant. We are not big buffet fans, and after a quick walk by China Fair's buffet I was reminded why. The dishes looked tired and uninspiring, typical of buffet-fare. We ordered from the menu. The Egg Drop Soup was an odd dark orange color and had so much corn starch that it was almost like jelly, but to make it worse, it was served cold! We sent it back to be re-heated, which was obviously done in a microwave. The Chicken Chow Mein and Sweet and Sour Pork were executed better and were served hot and fresh. I tried the lunch buffet yesterday and was sorely disappointed. Everything was mediocre or worse. I used to eat here in the 1980s; the ownership must've changed, because nothing was as good as it was back then. The generosity of the available items in the buffet might make up for its general mediocrity in many people's eyes, I suppose. There are a couple dozen items, not including the dessert/salad bars. We got the fried dumplings that were cooked crispy but not hard, presented on a bed of greens with yummy dipping sauce. The group of us 7 in the van, 6 Chinese and me the American wanted Chinese food. We searched and drove to this restaurant. We looked at the buffet first and it looked very tired, you got the point. We decided to order from the menu with fish being one of the items, nothing was good or tasty. We told our waitress the fish tasted old and not good and to take back the order. The waitress staff was very good 5 stars, however the Chinese woman in the back came out with the fish dish and gave us a very hard time about returning the item. Not a good management decision. I live in roscommon I woke today really wanting Chinese food. The one in grayling and Kalkaska was closed. When I got here I was happy to see they were open. I went w the buffet cause it had a lot of yummy thing I wanted to try. The rice was perfect... the peanut chicken was so dry it was unedible. The hot and sour soup best I've had in Michigan and they even have friend wontons for my soup. Aside from a couple of the meats being a little dry from being on the buffet it was yummy.
