Quite a surprise to find good thai food in Northern Michigan. I had the beef massaman curry. Very good but the garlic chili oil takes it to another stratosphere. I liked that the food was flavorful and not to sweet - challenging my jaded stereotypes of what asian restaurants do to appease the lowest common denominator. Speaking of light skinned, my wife had chinese style vegetables - very umami. Yes there is a gratuity added, but if you look past this annoyance, its good food in a cute, clean place. Was super excited to try this "NEW" place but don't be fooled. It's the same owners with a new name and decor but with a price increase. A bowl of pho with only 3 pieces of meat for $20?! No thank you. On top of that, there was a hidden 20% gratuity added to our bill without letting us know so I ended up tipping on top of that. When I asked them about it the next day, the owner, Jolina, said it was my fault for not looking and that the servers need to make money. I recently ate lunch at Mua Asian Cuisine and had to take out a small loan. The food was OK but not worth the $28.00 that it cost. The entree came with only white rice, no soup, egg roll or even a fortune cookie ! The restaurant was clean but very small. If you must have Asian food spend 20 minutes and head into Traverse City. They automatically tack on a 20 percent tip with the total. Once summer is over they will have to lower prices or find another line of work. Our total bill for 2 people came to $56.00 read more

We've been carrying out for years...mostly Gang Gai curry chicken, which is always very good. Tonight was THE BEST dinner we've ever had at Hang On and now Mua. Spring rolls, Gang Gai Curry chicken and Mongolian beef with crispy noodles, all excellent! Food is expensive these days, no question about it... The people who are offended by an adorable child being in the restaurant just may not appreciate what we here on the peninsula value most...family and all the people who are trying to make a good life for themselves and others too. Sadly, another poor review of Mua. Their website says temporarily closed. I called on Friday August 30 at 6:30 and got a recording that said they would be closed from August 24-29, reopening at 4:00 on the 30th. We attempted to place an order online and received a message that we had to call to order. No one answered the phone and we got the same message that they would be open at 4:00. Just tried calling again at 11:30 on Saturday August 31 and get the same recording. Fix your website! Fix your voicemail! So frustrating for customers and reflects very poorly on your ability to manage a restaurant. read more

We had the pineapple cashew fried rice and the peanut coconut curry with white rice. . They were both delicious with large portions. The vegetables in the curry dish were perfectly done and fresh. A $20 bowl of soup? Want shrimp in your fried rice? Okay, $13 dollars EXTRA. How about seafood in your entree? That'll be $23 EXTRA! Beef for your lo mein? $8 EXTRA! What is happening here?! I'm sorry to say that, while I can't speak to their Chinese menu offerings, the Thai food is not as good as it was when this place was known as Hang On. A significant drop off to my taste. The curries seemed thickened up but less flavorful--missing the subtle spice complexities of the previous offerings. And the rice would benefit from some preparation expertise. First of all. The food was tasty and portions very generous. Service was good. Two things were very off putting, however. A protein was listed as part of the ingredients of all of the fried rice dishes .... However there is an additional charge for any protein at all and it increases the price of every dish from $3-$13. I have a problem paying extra for something that is listed as part of the ingredients. Also , the tip of 20% is automatically added. I recently ate here about a week ago and while the food is still the same as it was before the remodel and very tasty, it was overpriced. For lunch you order a meal ($15) and then for an additional $3, you get to choose a protein. So at a minimum for lunch that's $18 a person. (That's w/o drinks or appetizers) And when going to pay, we were told there's an automatic gratuity of 20%, for people who dine in, which wasn't mentioned at any time until after being rung up. The waitress brought us our food and refilled our water carafe once. Not sure if that's worth 20% of an overpriced $36 meal (this was just lunch, mind you) I feel like we're just paying for the expensive remodel at this point. While the remodel is pretty and adds to the ambience to bring rich tourists in during the summer, it does nothing for the locals. Am very disappointed and do not foresee myself going back. read more
