Next time, I am coming hungry!
Lance L.

I'm gonna keep this simple. In a twist of fate...... I have discovered that My NEW Favorite coffee shop on the beautiful Island of Kauai is..... Drum Roll Please..... MELROSE!!!!!!! That's it. That's my Review. What do you think? Gotcha! Alright, here's how it went down. During our most recent trip to Kauai, we went to our favorite little local breakfast spot in Lihue, known as Tip Top. Fun Fact #1: Tip Top has been around for over 100 years (yeah! It was Established in 1916). Fun Fact #2: Hawai'i didn't even become a state until 1959. Crazy right! Anywho... that morning we drove into Lihue and pulled into the Tip Top parking lot just like we do every trip to Kauai. But this visit, as we approached the front door, there was a sign posted at the entrance saying something along the lines of: "Sorry, No coffee today". Now I don't know about you, but you don't wanna see me without my morning brew. Of course, this didn't detour us from having a delicious breakfast at our favorite little hole on the wall. (Check out Tip Top if you want to eat with the locals) So as soon as breakfast was over, we got back in the rental car and went on Yelp to find us a place to get coffee. And after my wife scrolled for a few minutes looking at the different coffee shops nearby, she suddenly exclaimed: "oh this place looks cute!" In my head, my exact thought was ... "cute?". I don't want cute! I want caffeine, Lots of caffeine! But I was desperate. I didn't care if the place was cute or not, I just wanted coffee Stat! The drive from Tip Top was less than 2 minutes before we pulled into the Parking lot of Melrose. Initial impression: is this place even open? There were windows, but they were all covered and you couldn't see inside. Me: Oh great, it looks closed. Are we gonna have to settle for McDonalds coffee across the street? My wife: Just go check. Yelp says they're open. So I walk up, anxiously hoping for the best and..... To my surprise, they were open. Ok, this is where it went from good to GREAT! We walked in and my first thought (fellas don't judge) (ladies, I finally get it) The place was soooo CUTE!!! Haha Yeah, it was 1/2 Boutique (apparel, accessories, gifting) And 1/2 coffee shop/café. And of course, beautiful roses throughout. The 2 young ladies behind the counter were so sweet, kind and made us feel so welcomed. While looking at coffee menu to see what we wanted, we were offered a sample of their collagen melon milk frozen concoction. Ho. Lee. Crap. This stuff was ridiculously delicious, so you know we had to get ourselves a full size one for the kids to share. In addition we got a Miss Melrose (iced) and a Mocha Melrose (hot) for my mother-in-law waiting in the car with the kids. All drinks were out of this world and definitely made with love! Speaking of Love... Their straws are pink and are HEART SHAPED!!! Yeah, this place didn't leave any detail out. Everything from the product they sell (the coffee and merchandise in the boutique), the whole vibe this space gives off, and of course the kind hearted staff they employ here... Melrose, you deserve every star I'm giving you! It was too bad we had just come from breakfast, otherwise we totally would have eaten here because everything looked/sounded so good from their bakery menu. We liked it so much, we decided to stop in a few days later when we were passing through Lihue and realized this time, they were actually closed (closed on Sundays). Thankfully for us, Kauai is our home away from home in our hearts and we have been so blessed to be able to come back so often and share this special place with our kids. Melrose know this... We will 1000% be coming back and know that every person I talk to that's going to Kauai, I will pass on the good word about your shop. I wish you nothing, but success until me see you again. Mahalo!

Ordered the Melrose Matcha and the coconut oatmeal cookie. Both were so delicious, I wish I could get the cookie recipe! The Matcha reminded me of a butter pecan ice cream.

We stopped by Melrose on the last day of our trip to Kauai and it was a lovely way to end off the vacation! The shop is so cute and feels like something straight out of LA. We got the Hawaiian tropical and Mr. Melrose drinks and both were lovely (and very pretty), but the standout for me was the brown butter chocolate chip cookie -- it was heavenly!

Coffee? So good. The decor? So pretty. The barista? So nice. I have zero negative things to say about my experience at this coffee shop!! They have good drinks with fun fall specials. It shares space with a small boutique I think. There's some parking too! Not a hard place to get to. If I lived here I'd visit all the time!

Melrose is the perfect spot to have a treat and a matcha with your girlfriends! The cutest little place to enjoy. The outdoor seating is ideal and has a nice ambiance. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie is my absolute favorite. All of the girls working there are always delightful and helpful. I will always take friends here when they are in town visiting, just love it. There is parking in front that is easily accessible.

Really good coffee drinks. The place looks like it was transplanted straight from Los Angeles. Cute little shop with yummy food. We had the Miss Melrose, Matcha Latte and Hawaiian Tropic and all were excellent. The brown butter chocolate chip cookie they heat up and is delicious. We also enjoyed the pepperoni on focaccia. The service is great too.

I have driven past this place a few times while visiting the island. I'm so glad that we decided to stop by for breakfast this time around. Such a cute place. Service was quick and friendly. Drink & the chocolate croissant were yummy! I'll definitely be back!

This place is a lot located in what used to be. I believe a former gas station. The transformation is absolutely incredible and it is even more breathtaking as soon as you walk inside. It definitely looks like something out of Europe, more Italian type of environment with the decor and all of the flowers both fresh as well as dried for decorative purposes The menu is incredible so please be sure to read through it and take your time and the staff is super friendly and patient with you There are also lots of ready to purchase that you can take home and cook at home such as sauces and pastas There are also a limited amount of baked goods available as well and they also sell some accessories, house, decor, etc. This is a must visit, not only because everything taste good but everything looks fantastic!!!

Such an amazing spot. The ambiance is the best! They have the cutest decor. Their pastries are to die for! The cookies and the cinnamon roll were so flavorful. They warmed the cinnamon roll for us and the cream cheese topping just melted in the mouth. The staff were extremely friendly and made recommendations for our drinks explaining the differences and options. The only reason I couldn't give it 5 stars is I've tried the matcha recommendations on 2 separate occasions and I was not impressed. It lacked something, almost as if it was watery. The hint of cookie was a nice touch but could have been alittle stronger. I was bummed as I love me a good matcha. The Mr. Dubai coffee drink on the other hand was bold and delicious. And the melrose milk was also another good try. I'm usually a matcha person, but Maybe I will have to try something other than matcha next time.

We enjoyed our coffees this morning and thank you for the tip on what beach to go to!

This is a must stop, especially for the ladies. They don't skip a detail right down to the napkin and coffee cup. The cutest boutique to shop inside. I ordered a coffee and ham and cheese croissant, both delicious. I wish people could see what was inside. We almost drove right by bc it didn't look open. To the owner... put a giant QR outside to spark interest. Loved this place

The cute store inside the shop!

Service was great and drinks were fabulous! We went back a second time before we left the island. Yummy!

Golden Milk with Almond Milk. Delicious!!!
Jennifer W.

This place is adorable!! It had great food, lots of little things that you can gift people and a delicious Golden Milk! The only recommendation I have it so put better sign out. I have driven by this place 50 times and was never sure what it was for. Wasn't sure if I needed to order before. Didn't know they had coffee. It's a beautiful design but I would love to see a sign out daily with their specials or something that lets people know what it is. I will definitely be back!

He was so friendly, so warm, and just one of those people who instantly makes you feel comfortable. You can tell how much love and passion goes into this shop, and it really shows in the way they treat every customer. The drinks were amazing -- seriously some of the best we had on the island. Everything tasted fresh, high-quality, and made with so much care. Pair that with the fun, happy vibe of the shop and it just made the whole stop feel special. We're already saying we can't wait to come back to Kauai just so we can come here again. If you're in Lihue, this place is an absolute must-visit.

It was sooo tasty, caramel and coconut creamy heaven. The coffee had great flavor and wasn't bitter or watered down. It was the perfect pick me up after landing in Kauai at 9:30am. We also tried the bagels, including the Jimmy Pesto on a rosemary bagel and the Brahvocado with added pesto cream cheese on an everything bagel. The bagels were fresh and had the perfect chew and crisp to them. The pesto cream cheese was full of flavor. There are indoor seating available and they also have a to-go window outside that you can pick up mobile orders if you're in a hurry. Parking is available behind the shop, it has signs letting you know it's parking for their shop. Definitely look forward to visiting again soon and trying a new drink option

We enjoyed: -Hawaiian Vanilla Latte - half sweet was the perfect balance -Americano with steamed cream - Kauai Latte-- Maybe I don't know what I'm looking for in a Mac nut syrup but I didn't notice any unique flavors...but it was still delish. But let's talk about the TOAST! They all looked SO GOOD. I narrowed it down to two: the avocado toast deluxe or the eggy toast. The eggy toast is more like an egg salad. Even though I think any time of day is a good time for egg salad, I went with the deluxe because microgreens and pickled red onions have a hold on me. While I've had variations of this toast at home and in my hometown, I've never tried it with chili. My lips were burning a bit, so if you are a sissy with heat, you might want to opt for no or reduced sauce. I left with no regrets...except that I should have come sooner than our last day on Kauai...and I should have grabbed an eggy toast to go!

We went about an hour and a half before they closed and it was empty, which was nice because we had a 1 year old with us and he was able to roam around. There was a zesty taste to it and the lettuce was crunchy and cut into bite size pieces. I really enjoyed it. My coffee was sooo good. It was sweet, but I like my coffee on the sweeter side. What really stood out to me about this coffee shop was the music. They played local, reggae, island music and it was such a vibe. The baby was Jammin out, too. We stopped by on a Tuesday around 8:30AM and got our pick of malasadas to try out! Kauai Bakery is located in a shopping plaza with plenty of ample parking, making it very easy to stop by and grab some delicious pastries. Service is like your typical bakery, you pick what you would like and they get it to you so you can stuff your face immediately after purchase. Ambiance is cozy with plenty of pastries to pick from in the large display case. We got 4 flavors of Malasadas for $16, which is $4 per doughnut, which I think is a decent price for the size and heft. The flavors we sampled were Lilikoi, Coconut, and Guava - out of these flavors, the coconut one was my personal favorite! The flavor was exactly what I would want anything coconut cream flavor should taste, creamy texture with a pleasant coconut taste that didn't taste artificial at all. It captured the floral background taste that is missing from a lot of coconut desserts that makes coconut so pleasing to eat! The Lilikoi one was my next favorite, it had a slight tartness and a more subtly pronounced flavor - I think I was looking for something stronger personally. Lastly was the guava one, which actually tasted a bit artificial and didn't have a pronounced flavor at all, which was unfortunate. Despite this critique, I would still glady inhale 2 or 3 of them because the dough was really pillowy and really enjoyable to eat. I think that the pastries here (at least the malasadas) are very solid and priced competitively vs most things here on Kauai. I would totally come back to get several more of the malasadas as well as try the other pastry options on the menu. Stop by and give this bakery a try if you are in the area!
