We're traveling through to Knoxville & stopped in Jackson for a bite to eat. Most of the places in the area closed at 9P, so it was hard to find a place that would take a party of 6 at 8:30P. Lucky for us, this place stayed opened until 10P. We were greeted with friendly faces and seated promptly. Our waitress was amazing and service was quick. We ordered the seafood combo B, gumbo, hush puppies & fried shrimp basket. Everything was so good and cooked perfectly. The gumbo was so delicious (I recommend adding shrimp because their shrimp were really good). The restaurant was actually very nice. The bar was in the shape of a boat. My boys loved all the fun decorations! Would definitely recommend if passing through Jackson :) read more

We were greeted as soon as we walked in the place and escorted to our table. Service was excellent, thanks Angela! Catfish and French fries came to our table hot out of the frier and everything was delicious. The place has that Gulf Coast ambiance like I love. Came in for a quick lunch outing. Thankfully the crowds hadn't arrived so quickly seated. Upon ordering we were notified of the lunch specials,which was reasonably priced. Good place for a messy seafood boil. The crawfish were big and nice. The snow crab was a little skimpy. Very good service.

We went to red Hook with a party of four and it was OK. The server was awesome. I think her name was Katie and she had been there for a while to critique the food. I had gumbo as an appetizer and the gumbo was almost like a broth very thin I could not taste any gumbo fillet. I had raw oysters for dinner they were out of season, but they were still decent size not large, but not teeny tiny like they would be at a different time of year. It was served with plenty of lemon cocktail. I asked for extra horse rice, which they gave me. I asked her crackers they gave me because that's the way I like to eat them. Another guest at the table had a seafood boil bag that looked really good unfortunately I can't eat seafood, but she said it was excellent on the downside. Our menus were filthy. Our table was still wet when we sat down and they cleaned around all the condiments and didn't clean condiments and they just brushed the stuff off into the seat. I feel like the first thing that should be evaluated in a so called "Cajun" restaurant is their gumbo. If the restaurant, through its employees, doesn't know how to do a decent roux, that's a major red flag in my opinion. I've had tremendously non-authentic gumbo at numerous places before, but I can't honestly remember ever having any gumbo as bad as what I got here today. 2nd time coming here. Waited over 10 minutes to place a drink order only to find out that they can only serve beer or wine, there was a lot of liquor bottles behind the bar. They didn't have any local beers only the big name brands. Ordered a sampler and it came out pretty fast and extremely hot. Everything was greasy like it wasn't drained and the oil was old. We stumbled across this place on our way to the motel. We are glad we did. I told my wife that I needed something other than chicken and French fries. We got a salad, which was outstanding and was plenty for the two of us. The seafood gumbo was the best I have ever had- just filled with seafood. We then enjoyed Combo A- boiled shrimp, mussels and clams- perfectly seasoned Cajun mild. We look forward to returning to this place the next time we are in Jackson. We ordered takeout. read more

Watched it open and wanted to try it out. My assistants ordered 2 catfish specials and I went to pick them up. Only 1 waiting. I checked and they ordered 2. The worst service I have ever had. Waitress did not know what was in the food or how it was prepared. She served our food before our appetizer so we just cancelled the appetizer. Still gave her a tip figuring she was not properly trained. If you are expecting AUTHENTIC CAJUN FOOD than you will be disappointed. Most of the foods are served in a large baggie where they mix the sauce with the food and vegetables. Not silverware is available. You are given no plates. You have to use the platter that the baggie is serviced on. Shrimp was overcooked and the sausage appeared to have been put in a sauce pan full of grease. Was really disappointed. The absolute worst service I've ever experienced in my entire life. I travel for work and eat in restaurants a minimum of 25 times a month. First when I got there, the bartender was all over the place. I was the only person at the bar beans I didn't want to take a table away from somebody else I ordered water then I ordered a meal I ordered a meal consisting of clams, mussels, and crawfish. When I finally got the meal I ask for silverware and also asked if they were out of clams because I received shrimp instead of clams. He came back, apologized and brought me clams. I told him no problem was very patient and nice then asked for a second time for silverware he brought me a package containing some plastic gloves and wet wipes, after about another 10 minutes, I asked him again if I could get silverware he finally apologized again and brought me silverware after the meal was over, and I waited and waited and waited. He finally came and checked on me asked me if I was done brought me a check, then tried to charge me for the clams, I told him that I would not be paying for those and ask for a manager. He came back with the check and said because I ate the crawfish that I had to pay for the clams I said go check the bag I did not eat the shrimp that I did not order they are still in the bag, he proceeded to get upset and I told him it was the worst service I had ever experienced. The manager never had the decency to come back and even talk to me I could see him standing over there, talking to this guy that was clearly not doing his job and clearly should not be any customer service position. He finally brought me back a check that took off the shrimp. I agreed to pay it as I was paying it. He asked me if I would like to complain some more so I can get discounts, then proceeded to tell me that he knew his worth. Then went on to say fuck you as I was getting up to walk out he started aggressively coming at me and talking crap no manager nobody ever came to deal with this. This is a horrible excuse for a restaurant and it is sad because the cooks are doing a very good job. We missed the Cracker Barrel exit and got off the next exit. Found this Cajun restaurant and it sounded good. Sure why not I like trying new food. Just ordered off the lunch menu and a bowl of clam chowder. Results: the potatoes in the clam chowder were not fully cooked and I didn't find a single clam in it. I ordered the calamari basket. The calamari was overdone and unsatisfactory. The fries were ok. The service was good the restaurant looks clean but the food really was not good. read more

We were excited to try this place and load up on various seafood. Upon arrival we had a 1.5hr wait. I wasn't too concerned about the wait as long as the food was worth it. We were finally seated and it took a long time before anyone came to our table. I noticed other tables looking around as well which was a bad sign. It appeared no one was being waited on except for large parties or those at the bar. Finally our waiter arrived and took our orders. Turns out, we were served before two other tables. We waited another 30mins or so and one of our party was served a fried seafood dish but our raw oysters appetizer and boiled seafood still had a wait. This was odd because it takes longer to fry food than the other things we ordered. Then the power went out which is obviously not anyone's fault or under their control. Once the power resumed the kitchen still wasn't close to preparing our oysters or boiled seafood. By this time we had been there for 3hrs and our oysters finally arrived. They're weren't even cut and not tasty. We ate a few and then walked out. We asked the speak to the manager but she pretended we didn't exist. There is no reason to spend 3hrs at a restaurant and not have your entree served. Seafood at that. I kept waiting for Gordon Ramsey to show up thinking this was a prank or an episode of Hell's Kitchen. I felt terrible for our waiter who worked at one of the other restaurants in Memphis. He tried to make up for the issues but it was much bigger than him. The management and kitchen there need to wake up. I've never had such an experience like this. My wife and I love seafood. As residents of Jackson, TN, for more than 40 years, one of our disappointments has been that there is not a place to get decent seafood between Memphis and Nashville (although there are quite a few places to get catfish, etc. - not REAL seafood!!). When we first heard about Red Hook Cajun Seafood coming to Jackson, we were very excited. Today, a week or two after Red Hook opened, we went to try our their fare. The place was absolutely packed, and parking was at a premium; however, we suspect that not all of these customers will return. In fact, we likely will not return to Red Hook! I had a fried oyster basket that was fairly good. Not great - just fairly good. My wife loves crab cakes, and she ordered one today. The 'crab cake' contained mostly breading, with very little crab meat, but the primary problem was that it was very greasy! It was served on a piece of paper in a basket, and, when served, it literally was sitting in a pool of grease! When we told the waitress about this, she appeared not to know what to say, but she finally indicated that she had served other cakes that were the same way! Finally, she agreed to return the crab cake, and we thought that another one would be prepared for us. When she returned, all that had been done was to put the same crab cake on a different piece of paper, which quickly developed a pool of grease that was soaking out of the cake!! Yes, she eventually got that item removed from our ticket, but this food was inexcusable!! Also, some 'staples' almost always included with meals elsewhere were a la carte at Red Hook! None of their meals include either hushpuppies or slaw. A tray of 10 SMALL greasy hushpuppies costs $4.00, and a very small serving of slaw is $2.00!! PLUS - they only provided 9 rather than the promised 10 hushpuppies! Why return here when we can go to Catfish Galley and get all of the hushpuppies (much larger, better tasting, and less greasy) that we can eat - and have slaw included in our meal (of shrimp, oysters, catfish, etc.)????? No, It is very doubtful that we will return to Red Hook unless major changes are made! WHAT A MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!!! read more

Got there at 1130am on a Saturday, a long line waiting for doors to be unlocked. Although I don't like waiting in a line to eat, I had been anticipating this establishment's opening. At 1140am they began letting people slowly in the door. Upon entering, the place looked like a well decorated seafood restaurant. We ordered the Saturday special--lobster tail, 1/2lb Shrimp, and 1/2lb crab legs. They brought a bucket with gloves, wet wipes, forks, nut cracker, and bibs---I thought we were getting ready for surgery. The server and manager were friendly. However, the food was a great disappointment. The food came out in a plastic bag, full of seasoned water. Wasn't really sure if I would make a mess pouring it all out on a plate, so I left it all in the bag. The crab legs were small and poorly cooked, as all the meat stuck to the shell. The shrimp was the same way. The lobster tail was small and the corn over cooked. I liked the potatoes, but for $32, we weren't there for the potatoes.
