This place was pretty mid. We went around Memorial Day weekend, and I'm still thinking about how much money we wasted here. The food was extremely overpriced, and I overheard a server tell another customer that the chili comes from Costco. They can't even be bothered to make it in-house. I'll excuse the long wait to order and receive our food because of all the large groups stopping here before heading over the mountains. We were part of that crowd too, so that's understandable. The only redeeming quality of this place was the sweet potato fries. They were kind enough to do a lettuce wrap for me, but I specifically asked for no cheese. A few bites in, I found small pieces of cheese, and on another bite, the chicken was covered in it. At that point, it wasn't even worth saying anything because we just wanted to eat and leave. The chicken was rubbery, like it had been microwaved, and the beef was dry and overcooked. Overall, I wasn't impressed. For two sandwiches, one milkshake, and a 16-ounce iced coffee, we spent $62.79. The place is beautiful and I have heard good things about it. The service was wonderful and the staff friendly. Two of us eating there got a rash of food poisoning, though I am thinking it was the water as it seemed to just effect the gut and was not overly sick, though the food appeared to be frozen prior to serving the Hollandaise was very pasty and the avocodo tasted a bit weird like it had been frozen. I would love to give more stars I hope whatever is making people sick gets solved. read more

The food here is pretty good. I don't normally like steak fries, but they make sure that they arrive crunchy and hot. The service is excellent! The waitresses have always been friendly and the food is served quickly. The milkshakes are spendy, but good. One thing I didn't like and didn't notice until I got home and looked at the receipt is that they tacked on a "convenience fee" of 4% for using a credit card. I was sitting there on a wallet full of cash and if they had only told me about it, I would have paid in cash. I normally use credit cards to collect the 2% cash back, but with this one I came out 2% behind. And now it costs $50 for 2 hamburgers, with fries and a side salad, plus 1 tap beer. This WAS "our place" for years... in the last 2 yrs, it's gone downhill while costs have gone up! I'm NOT going to pay just shy of $20 for sandwiches the cooks can't prepare as asked!! We use to eat here weekly, now we just tried it tonight, 2nd time in 6 months, only to have them screw up, AGAIN, on a BLT with NO tomatoes & add cheese. Not to mention, the bacon, which use to be huge, full length, strips of yummy goodness...tonight, it was fried pieces that should have been sprinkled on top of soup AND they tasted burnt, like the scraps they found in the fryer vat. The food at this diner is awful. They have dozens of different variations of a hamburger that just ends up seeming like confusing overkill. The burger patties are preformed frozen, which would be acceptable if they were cooked right. The meat is so over cooked you're eating hockey pucks. Combine that with week old dry buns and skimpy toppings. The one star can represent 5 stars for the service. The two people working there we encountered were friendly and helpful. They have a cool backyard area sometimes with live music and their lounge bar area seems to be a big draw. Maybe I'll return for the drinks but never for the food. read more

We waited for an hour. When our meal came out, the waffle was cold. The over-easy eggs? Hard. All three meals were lukewarm - basically plate sitting on a warmer a LONG time lukewarm. Six stars, easy. Def stop here if you're driving through - it's great, you won't be disappointed. The gorgeous and captivating gas station kitsch is enough for five stars. I'd eat minor-league ballpark franks in a space like this. The pancakes were perfect. The absolute best. They weren't tough, they didn't need a knife to cut, the only "problem" is that they're 10" in diameter, so if two typical 6" pancakes are enough for you, then one of these will do the trick. If you order two eggs up or over, you'll get two eggs. If you order scrambled, it's like you get the entire nest. I shouldn't complain about being over-served delicious pancakes, but Red Horse Diner puts IHOP to shame. read more

The service was friendly. The speed at which food came was fine. However, $17 for a French dip that is this tiny was very disappointing. It tasted fine. Wasn't amazing. Roast beef was dried out and it had the smallest square of Swiss cheese on each side. The potato salad was fine (store bought). The decor inside is awesome. It was an okay experience. On 9/19/22, I visited Red Horse Diner in Ellensburg, Washington for the first time. I had a favorite restaurant that I used to always stop at in Ellensburg on my way back home, but it closed. I think I may have found my new favorite. Originally, the site where the diner now sits was a gas station, one car, garage, and home built in 1936. The gas station owners lived on the property as was customary back in the day. The Crossett family purchased the property in 1996 and made it what it is today. Red Horse Diner is like taking a step back in time to a cool roadside diner. The walls and ceilings are full of vintage memorabilia from the service station's past. There are several different rooms with all kinds of seating arrangements. There is also a beautiful outdoor dining area. Even if you choose to dine inside, you must take a walk through the property out back. They have yard games. You can rent it out for private parties. Red Horse Diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are lots of options to choose from, but they were best known for their burgers. I ordered The Patty Wagon ($17) - 1/3 lb. Patty with Grilled Onions and Swiss Cheese on Toasted Rye. My server highly recommended the onion rings, so I paid a slight up charge to substitute. It was the best patty melt, and onion rings that I've had an ages! Attached to the diner, is the Nodding Donkey Bar. Happy Hour is every day from 12 PM to 2 PM, and again from 4 PM to 6 PM. On Friday nights, they have live music. Saturday is Karaoke Night. In addition to being a great roadside diner and bar, Red Horse Diner is an important part of the community, as the back hall wall, which is full of cards, letters, and other acknowledgments, will attest to. Red Horse Diner is a popular gathering place for a car clubs, motorcycle groups, and families. Red Horse Diner hosts classic car shows. They have an annual motorcycle event the first weekend in May called The Iron Horse Trail Motorcycle Show, which features live music, motorcycle stunts and competitions. They have a very active Facebook page where they share past and upcoming events. Upon scoping Yelp for a homey diner to try, I came across Red Horse on Yelp. When arriving, the exterior of the facility had road signs as decor and a small vintage gas pump near the parking lot. There was not a lot of other people when I went but upon entry, I was amazed by the cute booth style seating area and the collection of road signs hanging on the wall and ceiling. We were immediately greeted by our waitress who informed us that they allowed outdoor seating. She led us to our table outside which was in a makeshift tent that had tarp draped on the entrance of the seating area to keep it warm. There were also heaters, however since the temperature was particularly cold outside, we had to get extra jackets. We ordered our food which included steak fries and a sauce options. The burgers/sandwich was pretty average themselves but the steak fries were fantastic. 5/10 Tri Power Sandwich: The sandwich included steak fries, and au jus. Overall it was plain and seemed pretty average for a roast beef sandwich dip. 4/10 Panhead Burger: The burger itself was very plain and needed extra sauce to contribute to the flavour. Not only did I need to add additional ranch to the sandwich, but the burger was a little dry. 6/10 409 Burger: Pretty average burger with nothing special. The customer service here was great! With an incredibly attentive waitstaff, I had a great overall experience here. Ultimately, for a $14 meal per person, this place was pretty pricy for what you get, however I would definitely recommend trying their fries. read more

Friendly service, clean and kitschy decor -- classic signage inside what I would guess was a service station at one bygone time. My club sandwich was nothing spectacular: cheap cold cuts instead of freshly roasted Turkey and ham. It's hard to screw up a club sandwich, and while this was by no means bad, it was a mediocre sandwich to be honest. Next time I'll try one of those 1/2 pound burgers they seem so proud of. Good enough to come back, but it will be for something else. read more

Meh. We stopped in here based on the Yelp reviews but ended up being disappointed. First off, the service was abysmal. The young woman who was serving us was terrible. She obviously wanted to be anywhere but there. She gave one word answers to our questions and when we would thank her or ask her for something she just said "yep" as if she was annoyed. The food was average at best. I had the chili and I am pretty sure it was straight from a can. My daughters grilled cheese was served almost cold so the cheese was congealed. The steak fries stole the show on her plate. My other daughter had a wrap which came with dressing although my daughter asked for it on the side. The server was not pleased to have to bring it back to the kitchen. They did bring it out within 10 minutes.....with the same fries it came with......which were now cold. We had to get up and ask for drink refills. The inside was very cool and retro. Not impressed and won't be back. read more

We had the strangest experience here recently. This used to be one of our favorite spots, but we won't be back. When we walked in we were given a table and the waitress came with menus that were the limited lunch menus. It was 6pm and we could see the rest of the tables had the normal dinner menu. The staff wore masks and rubber gloves... Nice.... We stopped in for Breakfast and I had the Chicken fried steak. It was very tasty. My hubby got the scramble and was pleased with his meal. We ordered a few adult beverages. Yes Bloody Mary's. They are not amazing but drinkable. Over all the saying don't judge a book by its cover... Well in this case go inside and try them out. I think you will be happy with the food. I will be back in town in a few weeks so I will try dinner or lunch as well. Stopped at this restaurant Saturday, 10/7/23, after recommendation from a local. The restaurant was empty except for our group, and maybe 1-2 other parties. We were seated rather quickly... that was the only quick thing. It took ~10 minutes to get the menus. We took time to look over the menus, then waited ~20 minutes for someone to return. During this time, we could very clearly hear the young ladies talking and laughing. One of the girls working made eye contact with someone in our party, then went the other way. One person in our party got up to go check the front to flag someone down and observed one of the young ladies playing on her phone. At this point we decided we'd wasted enough time and left. Large patty, melting cheddar cheese, crisp bacon, onion, pickles, sauce, and tomato; a good sandwich, but the tomato slices were a tad under ripe and lacked flavor. One of the absolute worst restaurant experiences I have ever had. Managed to do everything wrong, it was borderline comical if not for the outrageous prices. I would leave 0 stars if I could. The waitresses wete nice but clearly were not trained correctly. There wasnt a single manager on site to communicate with or manage them better. It took over 15 minutes to get our coffees and waters, in which they delivered more coffee than we ordered, then left it at the table after we told them and still tried to charge us for the extra. The waitress had to ask everyones order 2 - 3 times even though she was writing it down and still several food orders came out wrong. The burger I paid $17 for had a an egg fried so hard it tasted hardboiled, the meat was dry as hell and the jalapenos tasted like straight up vinegar. We didnt get our silverware or napkins until halfway through eating. It took over 20 minutes to process our checks. We thought she disappeared and none of the other servers knew who are waitress was let alone where she was. Keep in mind this is a small resteraunt with only 3 floor members on staff, how they don't know their table numbers or coworkers is beyond me. The final fuck up was of course giving most of us incorrect receipts which then took another 15 minutes to fix. Stopping in at a small town for a burger you wouldnt think it would take an hour and half, cost $20+ and also taste like dried McDonalds. I have worked in the industry my whole life and never have I seen a calamity of errors like this. I don't typically leave bad reviews but this was beyond excusable and with no manager on site how else am I supposed to communicate how horrible my experience was? If I am the owner and I have any pride whatsoever I would be ashamed and embarrassed. If you think about going here I highly reccomend saving your time and money and finding somewhere else. read more

We brought a party of 7 on a Friday night and it was great! The service was friendly and attentive and the restaurant is an "I spy" wonderland if you have young children. The prices were reasonable and they delivered our food in a timely manner. Seeing the full parking lot shows you that it is a local favorite as well. We will eat there again for sure. read more

We came here Saturday around 1:30 pm, were seated inside and ordered the Fuel Injection Burger and Tavern Battered Halibut. We waited more than an hour for the food. The food was mediocre: the burger was dry, chewy, and the halibut dish came lukewarm, without a salad, and without garlic toast; the waitress brought the salad only when we reminded her, later.
