    "Over easy eggs"
    Kathy G.

We waited for an hour. When our meal came out, the waffle was cold. The over-easy eggs? Hard. All three meals were lukewarm - basically plate sitting on a warmer a LONG time lukewarm. They refused to adjust the bill. I have never experienced that. Ever. Much over-rated. Added: two tables that ordered after us had their food and had eaten before our order came out. As you can see, over easy eggs were a joke.

Six stars, easy. Def stop here if you're driving through - it's great, you won't be disappointed. The gorgeous and captivating gas station kitsch is enough for five stars. I'd eat minor-league ballpark franks in a space like this. The pancakes were perfect. The absolute best. They weren't tough, they didn't need a knife to cut, the only "problem" is that they're 10" in diameter, so if two typical 6" pancakes are enough for you, then one of these will do the trick. If you order two eggs up or over, you'll get two eggs. If you order scrambled, it's like you get the entire nest. I shouldn't complain about being over-served delicious pancakes, but Red Horse Diner puts IHOP to shame.

    The Desoto (French dip)

The service was friendly. The speed at which food came was fine. However, $17 for a French dip that is this tiny was very disappointing. It tasted fine. Wasn't amazing. Roast beef was dried out and it had the smallest square of Swiss cheese on each side. The potato salad was fine (store bought). The decor inside is awesome. It was an okay experience. I would go again but order something else. My friend had a burger that looked good.

On 9/19/22, I visited Red Horse Diner in Ellensburg, Washington for the first time. I had a favorite restaurant that I used to always stop at in Ellensburg on my way back home, but it closed. I think I may have found my new favorite. Originally, the site where the diner now sits was a gas station, one car, garage, and home built in 1936. The gas station owners lived on the property as was customary back in the day. The Crossett family purchased the property in 1996 and made it what it is today. Red Horse Diner is like taking a step back in time to a cool roadside diner. The walls and ceilings are full of vintage memorabilia from the service station's past. There are several different rooms with all kinds of seating arrangements. There is also a beautiful outdoor dining area. Even if you choose to dine inside, you must take a walk through the property out back. They have yard games. You can rent it out for private parties. Red Horse Diner serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are lots of options to choose from, but they were best known for their burgers. I ordered The Patty Wagon ($17) - 1/3 lb. Patty with Grilled Onions and Swiss Cheese on Toasted Rye. My server highly recommended the onion rings, so I paid a slight up charge to substitute. It was the best patty melt, and onion rings that I've had an ages! Attached to the diner, is the Nodding Donkey Bar. Happy Hour is every day from 12 PM to 2 PM, and again from 4 PM to 6 PM. On Friday nights, they have live music. Saturday is Karaoke Night. In addition to being a great roadside diner and bar, Red Horse Diner is an important part of the community, as the back hall wall, which is full of cards, letters, and other acknowledgments, will attest to. Red Horse Diner is a popular gathering place for a car clubs, motorcycle groups, and families. Red Horse Diner hosts classic car shows. They have an annual motorcycle event the first weekend in May called The Iron Horse Trail Motorcycle Show, which features live music, motorcycle stunts and competitions. They have a very active Facebook page where they share past and upcoming events. Be sure to check it out. * Be sure to scroll through all of the pictures. i've included photos of the entire property, the back hall wall, and menus for the restaurant and bar. Highly Recommended!!! 1518 W. University Way Sunday - Thursday 7 AM to 9:30 PM Friday - Saturday 7 AM to 10 PM Nodding Donkey Bar is open on Monday from 3 to 11 PM. The rest of the week, it's open from 11 AM to 11 PM. -- at Red Horse Diner.

While every dish is an eating experience, the Early Bird has monthly specials that are as unique as they are wonderful. The only problem: they only exist for that month (although manager Erica tells me they occasionally have made a monthly special a permanent fixture). Come early or late on weekends -- The Early Bird is often difficult to snag a table, especially on Sunday mornings and in the winter when they don't use their outdoor dining area. Also: their adjacent sister eatery, the Night Owl, is a similarly high-quality Korean restaurant.

Unfortunately for me, many other concert goers had the same Sunday morning plan. While The Early Bird is delicious, it's by no means speedy. We originally received a 45-minute wait for takeout, but ended up waiting closer to 75-minutes. My order consisted of the Eggs Benedict bowl with the veggie medley, monkey bread, and a hazelnut iced latte. The perfect cure after a night of debauchery. You can tell they're doing their best to manage crowd control, especially the morning after a popular concert. Something to note is that you must have a table secured before ordering food. They don't let you order and wait to be seated to help lessen the crowding. Pro tip: the city park behind this building is much better spot to wait for your food. There's seating and even private bathrooms - a god-send after a night of camping at the Gorge.

This diner appears to have opened in the 1920's based on the charming art deco bar, booths and cabinetry. There is some additional seating up front which is not technically period appropriate, but it's low key and neutral enough that it doesn't spoil the atmosphere. I recommend sitting at the counter for the full diner experience. The menu has all the usual, with options for smaller sizes and individual items à la carte, which helps to keep prices down and avoid food waste. Did I mention, they have great coffee? Tastes like what I would make at home. They serve it in heavy porcelain mugs in the shape of the traditional Victor diner ware mug, but sized up for modern sensibilities.

Truth be told, we considered the Early Bird breakfast joint around the corner, but didn't like the approach (grab menu, order at counter, find a table) and happy we chose here instead. Classic (but not cheap looking) diner, loved the understated style, brick walls, booths and counter. Great service, a bit of a wait for a table even when it didn't seem too busy inside - maybe so kitchen didn't get backed up. Would def re-visit - side note, pretty impressed with choices from diners to restaurants to bars in general for such a small town!!

She didn't have any beverage while I had their dragonberry mojito. The beverage was excellent, as was the tortellini and garlic bread, and the fries are possibly the best in Ellensburg. My cut of prime rib was more done than I ordered and was lacking in flavor. The doneness the establishment had control over, the taste, not so much. The corn was not very good, like it had been out too long, soft and not the best taste. The service was excellent! Our server Taylor was very attentive and worked hard to make our visit memorable. I left a tip a bit higher than what I normally would. The part though that is irritating to me is they charge a 3% credit card fee. This restaurant is equidistant between banks that I use. If I had known of this fee I could have had cash. Banking fees should be built into your pricing. $40 for a 10-12 ounce prime rib should contain enough profit to absorb the credit card fee. All in all a good meal that mostly checks the excellent box.

There was open seating in the bar, the door greeter (bartender?) handed us some menus and said we could choose our own table. Definitely understaffed for two big teams of kids & parents, many empty tables were not cleared (including ours). We were warned that the kitchen was catching up with all the orders so it might take longer than normal. We didn't mind since we wanted to have a drink first anyway. We enjoyed the spicy Bloody Mary and a yummy ceviche appetizer to start. We eventually ordered the heaping 12th Man burger; too big to eat with your hands, had to knife and fork that baby! Hubs ordered the fish tacos, fresh & crispy, no complaints. The staff was hustling, spread thin, but still amazingly friendly & efficient. We will return to try other menu items.

It came with mashed potatoes and green beans, and had Gorgonzola cheese, as well as bacon chunks and mushrooms spread all over the steak. He also got a Caesar salad which he enjoyed but would ask for light dressing on it next time since it was way too much dressing My son got a basic burger. He thought it was very good but would prefer the Patti be a little shorter and wider than taller and less wide. The sandwiches and burgers don't come with sides which is weird. So we ordered the french fries to share. They're my very favorite type - medium thickness (1cm x 1cm), long, crispy but doesn't break when you bend it and not oily at all I had the BLT with avocado and pesto aioli sandwich but I made it into a grilled chicken burger. It was very good and the bacon there is amazing. So thick but not overly greasy either. And not fatty. Amazing flavor.
