    English Rose Room
    Kalonni T.

My Love and I stopped by The Red Horse Vineyard Bed and Breakfast during a trip celebrating our One Year Anniversary recently, actually spending the night there ON our anniversary. We chose the English Rose Room based on the description and pictures we saw online, and they definitely didn't disappoint. Darlene checked me in while My Love parked and got the bags. She made sure to introduce me to everyone we came across as she gave me the tour of her home, including the Billiard Room, which has a bar where you can find additional soft drinks should you need them, the lounge area, gift shop, dining room (where there were some yummy chocolate chip cookies!), and kitchen. Our room was well appointed,  with a super comfortable bed. The interior door had a numberpad lock, and the exterior door had a key, if you were to decide to take advantage of the hot tub,  (due to thunderstorms that evening, we weren't able to partake). There was a chiffarobe with two robes available, though they appeared smaller in sizes. Not a problem, but worth mentioning for anyone wondering. There was also a mini fridge in the room with some drinks available, with no extra fees, which is always appreciated. There was a roll in shower, as well as a shower seat for those who might need them, and shampoo, et al, were in dispensers on the wall of the shower. They also provided a lovely goat milk lotion, which I really wish had been travel sized so we could have taken it with us! When we returned from getting dinner locally, they had turned on their wedding lights, and the whole place was SO pretty! For breakfast, you can choose to eat on your private patio if you're downstairs, the front porch, or with others at the dining table. We decided to sit inside with the others, and Darlene and her family did a terrific job of setting us up so as not to be too crowded, with one from each couple on each end, their partner each toward the wall with a chair between the two, and a solo visitor on the window side. We arrived first and there was already zucchini bread on the table made using her daughter's winning recipe from 4H, followed by an egg frittata with spinach and Rotel, a slice of ham, and baked apples with walnuts. I really wish we had planned to spend more than just the one night so would have had more time to just sit back and relax! Thank you all for your hospitality! Hope to see you again soon!

I can't thank the owners & staff enough for the beautiful venue for my daughters wedding & working behind the scenes for a perfect weekend!

I can't thank everyone at the RHV B&B for providing such a beautiful setting for a holiday weekend wedding. We had use of the B&B and entire grounds for the weekend. When there was a glitch with the caterers bringing food a day early, they took care of it. They even drove our elderly friend to the site in a golf cart because it was hard for her to walk there. My friends and family kept saying how beautiful it was. Thank you!

Once we booked we arrived we followed the instructions on our confirmation. It gave us a code to a secure box where we were to find the rest of the details for our stay. It felt a lot like a scene from Clue. Fun! Inside looks exactly how you'd hope it to look based on the outside. It's filled with authentic built in furniture in solid sturdy wood. Ours was the Garden Room which was more of a suite than a room. In addition to the queen bed, there is also a separate room (like a living room) with a pull out couch. The living room has a door that leads out to a balcony that looks over the entire property. From there you can see a huge courtyard with a fireplace and luxurious lounge chairs, hammocks and benches. There is a pond, or more of a brook that runs through the back courtyard. I never determined if there were fish. The entire setting is a place for anyone but particularly those who want to take a few days to catch their breath. I sure did. In the morning the DH B&B served homemade quiche, multigrain pancakes, piping hot coffee and juice. If you are going to be in Albuquerque and are doing some comparisons, this one is more than just clean; it's delightful. I am a local. Even so, I'll be treating myself to this again..and again.

Definitely worth supporting over the chain places in town. It made for a unique travel experience.

If you stay there, do not get the Manzano. Early morning and you can hear everything from the room behind. Banging, clanging, footsteps, voices. Also, maintenance banging on the door even with a "do not disturb" placard on the door. They gave a man checking out a discount for a broken coffee maker and crappy bed, but when I complained about the atrocious noting of noise we had, we just got "well you should've called to make a noise complaint." True, but the property needs to do something about their paper thin walls. Property should also have an age limit like Ojo sites.

When we walked onto the patio and took in those sweeping views of the Sandias, I was ready to love this place. Los Poblanos has all the ingredients of a truly special dining experience: a gorgeous setting, a thoughtful farm-to-table ethos, and a menu that promises something above the ordinary. Which is exactly why the evening's annoying missteps were so disappointing. Service was well intentioned but unpolished. Our waiter seemed overwhelmed and, at times, unfamiliar with the menu -- a problem when guests are asking genuine questions about the food and wine. We ordered bread which came before our drinks were served. Wine service was inconsistent. I ordered an Albariño by the glass - 6 oz. My sister ordered the Cabernet listed on the menu as a recommended pairing for her entrée, priced at $11. After we placed our drink orders, the waiter returned to inform her that the menu price was incorrect -- the wine was actually $18. She agreed to proceed. He then asked whether she wanted "a half glass or a full glass," which is an oddly imprecise question at a restaurant whose menu specifies pours in 3, 6, and 9 oz increments. She said half glass. What arrived was 3 oz of wine in a small serving carafe, which the waiter simply poured into her glass -- no bottle presented, no taste offered. My own Albariño, by contrast, was brought to the table in the bottle with a proper taste before pouring. The disparity in service between the two of us was striking. A simple, clear statement -- "3 oz of this wine is $18, not $11; would you still like it?" -- would have resolved everything cleanly. Instead, the vague "half or full glass" framing left my sister without the information she needed to make an informed choice. For what it's worth, the wine itself was extraordinarily tannic -- borderline undrinkable -- and I would have sent it back. My nephew ordered a top shelf whiskey. The waiter told him "we don't have that". My nephew said "it's on your menu" to which the waiter responded "oh, let me check on that". There seemed to be too many instances of the waiter running back to the bar to check on stuff. Anyway, it was available. The waiter apologized. We ordered the bread which was served before our drinks arrived. Food took about an hour which is fine - I don't have an issue with that but during that time we never saw the waiter again. I ordered the soup of the day - potato and leek which was delicious. Followed by the blackberry salad, which was my main course. Both arrived simultaneously, with the salad placed in front of me and the soup set to the side as an afterthought. At a restaurant at this price point, the expectation that soup precedes salad is not an eccentricity -- it is simply correct service. When I expressed my surprise, the servers seemed genuinely puzzled, which suggests this may be a training gap rather than an isolated incident. As for the salad itself -- it was pleasant, but pleasant is not enough here. The blackberry salad was the kind of thing you might enjoy at a well-run casual chain: competently assembled, inoffensive, and forgettable. At a farm-to-table restaurant with access to exceptional local ingredients, I expect the plate to reflect that -- more intentional presentation, more layered flavors, something that is more elevated than what was presented. This one didn't. The gap between the setting and what landed on the table was wider than it should have been. My sister and nephews ordered the filet mignon and rib eye. Both arrived pre-sliced -- a presentation trend that has made its way into fine dining, though one that divides opinion. My concern, beyond personal preference, is practical: sliced meat loses heat faster, and at roughly $80 per entrée, guests should receive their steak in the condition that best showcases it. The quality was good, not exceptional. Los Poblanos is a restaurant with genuine promise and a setting that few can match. The concept is right; the execution needs work. The issues I encountered -- inconsistent wine service, course sequencing, and a discombobulated waiter-- are not kitchen problems. They are fixable. I hope the restaurant takes that seriously, because the bones here are excellent and the experience should be too.
