As they wheeled me through the door, in a wheelchair, I noticed that the facility was almost brand new.... I think. Everything was clean and shining. All the staff had wonderful smiles on their faces and I knew this was my happy home for the next 3 weeks. The food was excellent especially if you're a fan of southern cooking; however, if you're a northerner like me, they will accommodate you for each meal. But the southern flare was so good, I went in a northerner and left 3 weeks later a southerner. Anyway, I had physical therapy 5 hours a week (M-F) and occupational therapy 5 hours a week (M-F). My PT and my OT people were fantastic. They worked with me to give me the maximum benefit in my rehabilitation. I felt myself getting stronger everyday. The nursing staff worked very hard to bring me the maximum comfort, provide my meds in a timely fashion, and yet those hard working nurses always had a smile for me all the time. My doctors recommendation of this facility was, without a doubt, the right place for me. I came in a wheelchair and 3 weeks later I danced out the door.

The nursing staff are phenomenal! I have to thank Nurse Cynthia and the Medical Director, Dr. Russell, who helped us get my aunt settled in on Day One. Amanda and Eva have diligently followed up to make sure that my aunt, who requires extensive medical services, always gets the best possible care. Her nurses, including Elizabeth, Marco, Carole, Sean, Mallory, Julia, Olivia, Mike, and Sierra (I'm sure I'm leaving someone out, and I apologize!) are always kind, gentle, professional, and accommodating. They go out of their way to make sure she is happy and comfortable. I just can't say enough about the consistently excellent level of care. My aunt received Speech, OT, and PT services that were specifically designed to meet her individually prescribed goals. My aunt participated in determining what her goals would be in a way that honored and respected her agency. Her progress was regularly measured and shared with her as well as the family. We would like to thank her therapists Nicole, Brook, Katie, Kate, Julie, and Sam (again I'm sure I'm unintentionally leaving someone out!) for all their hard work and for always going the extra mile to meet my aunt's needs, including procuring specific equipment to help her meet her goals. The therapists work together seamlessly to provide excellent support every day, including weekends. The nutrition services at the Lodge are excellent and personalized. Individual requests are not only tolerated but encouraged. The office staff at the lodge know and care about each patient individually. Susan and Shannon have patiently answered all of the family's questions and concerns as my aunt has recently transitioned from short term care to long term care due to her condition. I am writing this review to warn others about the deeply troubling care my mother received at The…read moreLodge at Mills River. What she endured during her stay was not merely substandard -- it was a failure of basic human dignity that no patient should ever experience. My mother was admitted with a fractured pelvis, a serious and painful injury requiring careful, attentive care. Instead, pain management was grossly inadequate -- her suffering was never brought under control, and she was left in visible, prolonged distress. The facility does not provide patients with catheters despite limited mobility, leaving her lying for hours at a time in her own urine and excrement. This alone is a profound failure of basic nursing care. This is done to encourage patients to get out of bed, one staff member told me. When staff finally did attend to her, the handling of her body was alarmingly awkward. During cleaning, they moved her from side to side applying direct pressure to her fractured pelvis -- causing her tremendous, unnecessary pain. Whether this was due to a lack of training or simple carelessness, it is completely unacceptable for a patient with a known pelvic fracture. The environment itself was deeply distressing. A patient in an adjacent room could be heard repeatedly crying out "help me" -- for an extended period -- with no response whatsoever from staff. That sound will stay with me. It was not an isolated moment; it reflected the culture of neglect that seemed to permeate this facility. The attitude of much of the staff compounded everything. Several wore permanent scowls and did not mask their resentment when asked to respond to my mother's needs. Compassion and patience -- the very foundation of caregiving -- is in short supply when your job is driven by the numbers. I would urge anyone considering The Lodge at Mills River for a loved one to look elsewhere. Families trust these facilities with the people they love most, often at their most vulnerable. That trust was utterly broken here.

The building is a bit older but is kept up fairly well. The smells of a care home are present but not as strong as some other care facilities that I have been to due to the staff always cleaning. The staff are wonderful and friendly and seem to take great care of their residents. Two people particularly stood out from my visit, Candice who was very friendly and was the one of the primary nurses assigned to my step brother's area. He required a lot of attention and Candice was always very polite and patient and assisted my stepbrother as best as she could. We also met Cam who was also very friendly and seems to genuinely care for the residents. He always had a smile on his face and would give a smile to residents as he passed by them. He told me he loved his job and that he genuinely cared for the residents. It showed watching him work for 2 days during my visits. I rarely post reviews but because I was pleasantly surprised at how awesome this place was, I thought I would write a review to let people know of my awesome experience at Manna Acute Care in Pickens, SC.

It's AWFUL. When I say I wouldn't let my dog stay here- I wouldn't. I seriously wouldn't even store barn animals here. I mean just walk in the front doors of this place it's like an adult playground. You have to literally go around a maze of elderly people in wheelchairs chairs to get through the front desk and door and don't forget hold your nose or you'll pass out from the strong smell of piss as you pass through the hallway to make your way to the back to see your family who is in rehab who is clearly not even in rehab they just sit back there in bed...Take your review for yourself once you walk in I mean I literally don't even have to say anything. Oh and by the way they sent us home with someone else's paper work. So that's a HIPAA VIOLATION. They called us wanting us to bring it back up there and so that means we went home with ZERO paperwork for our patient. THINK TWICE BEFORE TAKING YOUR LOVED ONE HERE! I cannot believe we had her there. I honestly will never forgive myself for having her here and I don't know how any of those people that work there even sleep at night. I asked before i went if that was possible, & they assured me over & over that it was. By my exit date, i didnt have my shot. Matter of fact, i didnt get my shot till 2 weeks after i left. For someone in a different head space than i was, that could have meant a relapse or death by OD. -always double check your med cup to make sure they give u the right meds. -other clients told me there was issues with being tolf they would have access to their strong meds before going, & not having them once they arrived. Pro: they give out meds fast Housing: -First of all, there were bed bugs. ALL over the couches (that made their way into rooms). They did a very poor job of handling getting rid of them. -men & women were mostly separated with a few men in the women's house. (You can probably guess how this isnt ideal) -beds are very old & uncomfortable Pro: beautiful property & views Food: -if u want consistent nutritious meals, look elsewhere. However, if chips, deli sandwiches, pizza, & fried chicken are your thing, you'll be happy here. -the men can come eat at the women's house, but the women cant eat at the men's. -they say you will "make your own food to teach life skills," but it's actually just them not wanting to pay for a cook Pro: big kitchen Housing Staff: - one was fired bc she was doing sketchy things with giving clients wrong meds on purpose. -one was fired for fading out on the job - many of them talk bad about clients in front of other clients & are overall unprofessional - there is little communication between housing staff to the clinical staff (this causes all kinds of issues -do a very poor job of supervising clients sufficiently Pro: some are nice Clinical Staff - A reason for one of my stars. Most are great. -Didnt see a therapist till 1 1/2 weeks there, then they switched my therapist half way through. (My original therapist was leaving the company & they knew that when they started me when him) But that sucked. -if u ask a lead staff something & they say it will happen on Monday, expect it to be 3 weeks later. Outings & hikes: -best part of the experience Would i recommend them? Depends on if they have made changes.

They are "sober" when it makes them look and feel better about themselves.
