When I made a request to fix some minor details he did not corporate and instead he went back complained about me and made another artist "deal with me." The other artist was named Chris he was wonderful and re-drew the original design to my liking. I do not have the first guys name and he is not on the website. Red Octopus needs no introduction. And it probably doesn't even really need my review. Before there was even a yelp, word spread around the DMV that this is THE place for tattoos and piercings. They can add my husband and I to their list of happy customers. If you're anything like me, planning a tattoo can take years. My husband and I have wanted to get each other's names tattooed for at least 3 years now. We always said we'd wait until we were married at least. So we walked into Red Octopus one Sunday a few months short of our 1st year anniversary. Names are not uncommon, I know this. But as I sat looking at the popular tattoo fonts in the waiting room area, I became increasingly uneasy. The tattoo fonts were extremely wack. Nothing fit me. Nothing fit us. So, I strongly considered walking out. Leave it to my husband's tattoo artist (Tommy or Tony, I think) to save the day. He asked what we were looking for and what we liked. We showed him a couple of pictures and where we wanted them. "Let me free hand something for you real quick and see if you like it". When he returned, we were both floored with his design and sat there grinning from ear to ear. This was it! It's like the universe was saying, "the time is now!" Tommy/Tony set it up so that we could both get tattooed at the same time. Gene didn't have a client and offered to do mine. This was a great idea in theory as it would save us time. But I simply could not bare the pain without hubby holding my hand. So hubby went first and then it was my turn. Both artists were professional, friendly, and worked quickly. Tommy/Tony made a few jokes about us needing cover-ups. Hubby's artists said they do quite a bit of cover ups regularly. Which sort of amazed me. But he also went on to say we're the first married couple he's seen so I guess that makes sense. My artist, Gene, was just as friendly and tried to make me feel relaxed--which I particularly appreciated because of where I was getting the tattoo. Let's just say I haven't really had another man touch me there since my husband so the professionalism was much appreciated lol. He gave advice, suggestions, and schooled us a bit on tattooes. An all around thorough and enthusiastic artist. I would definitely check him out again at the Landover location. Besides the amazing artistry and professionalism of the employees, the facilities and environment promote safe, clean, and healthy tattooing. I felt welcomed at all points. Great place! I'm giving it three star because the lady that pierced my 9 month old daughter's ear made a comment I did not like. I was never getting it done and she said well you can wait until she's old enough to decide on her own. Things like that people should keep to themselves and not say it out loud. Although I requested one I was told no appointment was needed. I even called 1st to see if it was a good time. The non personable voice said come on..uh ok. 3 hours after waiting and no service (or sign of service) I took the 45 minute drive back home with no tattoo. My experience with Red Octopus was awesome! My boyfriend and I both got tattoos here. My boyfriend first got a tattoo by Niki which was super quick and beautiful. Afterwards we both got tattoos by Turtle! Turtle is so hilarious and makes you feel extremely comfortable. Hs artwork is beautiful, he can do anything but his asian art pieces are wow..! I think it is important to note that I read a ton of reviews about the shop before deciding that it was the place for me; and, honestly, some reviewers had negative things to say about the overall customer service at Red Octopus. I was reluctant to actually stay to get the tat, when I was informed that the wait, for a walk-in, would be OVER 3 HOURS and that I should come back :/ Long story short, Pat accommodated me, when another appt canceled; he was professional and kind and just made it easy. First of all this place is great but customer service is not its best!! I had my septum done here and had no problem and healed perfectly. I decided to get a new piercing which was my navel. So I went back ofc!! On my first day I did notice a problem that the ring was too small. But I thought it was just the swelling making it look like that and decided to give it a week to see if it would change. The swelling stopped and it stopped hurting also. But two days ago started hurting so bad I couldn't even move and was sinking in. The next day I called and ask if I could come in and get checked out. I told them everything that was going on. And was told it could've been the way I sleep or I keep messing with it. But I knew something was wrong. So I went to the red octopus in hyattsville and was told the ring to small and was pierced too deep. Well my piercing is doing much better now and don't hurt as much. read more

SO RUDE! I called this location before hand for a walk-in, which they said I could come in without an appointment no problem. I got there and they were not welcoming whatsoever. They asked me to schedule an appointment. I went to the counter to ask to schedule a same day appointment to cover up a tiny tattoo on my ankle. I told them my dog passed the day before and I wanted to get something in her memory. They had zero sympathy and said they couldn't do it. I tried showing them how small the tattoo was and they wouldn't even look. I told them I drove 35 minutes to their location because they said I could walk in over the phone, and they couldn't care less. I was the nicest person ever and they acted like they were superior to me and that I was stupid for even asking if they could do the tattoo same day. They wouldn't even schedule me an appointment bc they said they were booked a few months out?? I hated this experience, really ruined my day and made me even more upset about my dog. read more

Horrible customer service! I came in to get a very simple tattoo. I came on a Sunday so I understood that there weren't going to be many artists working and the wait may be a little longer than usual. I called ahead of time and the girl told me that they didn't have anyone waiting at that moment. So I drove about 20 miles to get there because it's one of the few shops that are open on weekends and I had previously heard good reviews from other people that have been here. I finally get to the shop and there's two girls at the front desk. One with shorter hair and the rude ass red head. The girl with the shorter hair politely tells me that it's going to be about a 30 minute wait which is fine because I see that there are about 3 people ahead of me now. There's only one artist working and the red head was working as the piercer. THREE HOURS go by and I still haven't been seen....I'd finally had enough and left. About an hour after me leaving, the red head calls my phone and asks "Did you still want to be tattooed today?" I very politely say "No, thanks. I was told it was going to be a 30 minute wait and turned into a 3 hour wait. I've decided to go somewhere else." Her response? "Ok." Here's a tip my love, learn some customer service. I was pierced for my second nose ring by jax on may 11. i have 10 other body piercings, all which have had no trouble healing and were all really low maintenance on cleaning, including my first nose ring. This one however has given me endless trouble. I've been cleaning it twice a day with a sea salt solution for nine months now to no avail. It will randomly get a keloid every few weeks. Will not heal properly, even though I waited four months to even attempt to change the jewelry. Now I am not able to even do that because of the immense pain it causes me to even wiggle the jewelry i was pierced with. After nine months of my following the after care instructions to a T, this is unacceptable. Hopefully I can have another piercer attempt it in a different location as there's no point in keeping this one if it's going to cause a disgusting bump on my nose every couple weeks. read more

I stopped in on a Thursday for a price quote for small tattoo. Was given quote. I asked to make appointment for the next day, Friday. Was told I did not need to make an appointment, I could just walk in but I was advised to get there early because the shop did not open until one and Line started to form early. I got there at 12:00 noon. There were 2 people ahead of me. A car later pulled in with 2 more people friends of the 2 people in front of me. When shop opened, people that had appointments were pulled. We were told only 1 artist available for walk ins. Long story short, the manager allowed the 2 people who came after me to be serviced before me because he considered them a "group"...so NOT fair. I left and went down street to mystic tattoo and was immediately taken back and tattoo completed within 30 minutes and the pricing was so much less than this establishment will never give them my business or recommend them to anyone. read more

My friend and I went in to get a consultation on tattoo's. All we wanted to know was about how much we would be paying, how long it would take etc. The receptionist was terribly rude. I told her what I wanted and showed her a picture, told her where and how big. She showed the picture to the artist and she came back and told me that it would be around $60 I wouldn't be able to get all the detail I want for the size that I want (which was pretty understandable) she said all I would be able to get is an outline. (WTF)and then I showed her how big I was willing to go in the size of the tattoo and she very rudely said "We'll that's not what you told me before!" She didn't even help my friend at all! My friend wanted a tattoo of her name and the woman told her she'd have to come back with a picture (WTF^2) I might have understood if she at least showed her some different fonts or examples. Didn't ask my friends name and didn't even try to get her a quote or consultation. ALSO this place is supposed to be new and the chairs that you get the tattoo done in are out in the open right behind the counter. (no privacy!!!)Over all I'd say that the only nice thing about them is their prices not that I will ever get in on their cheap prices because I am NEVER going back. Mystic Piercing/Tribal tattoo said that what I wanted was no problem and that I could get all the detail I want and it would cost me $100 (plus the receptionist was WAY more helpful and much more polite) Bottom line Mystic's is right up the street and they may charge a little more but they're able to do anything you want and they're MUCH nicer!!! read more
