Demetrius waited on us & took good care of us. We started with soups, egg rolls, pork dumplings, ribs & edamame. Everything was delicious, portions were generous & everyone enjoyed. Tucked away, low key, almost hiding in plain sight. The wontons themselves? Excellent. Tender, flavorful, clearly made with care. The broth had depth, real flavor, not just salty filler. Only note... I wish it came out hotter. It showed up just above room temp, which felt like a missed opportunity because the flavor deserved better. Then the pork egg rolls showed up and completely stole the show. Game over. Crispy on the outside, not greasy, packed with flavor. Every bite hit. This wasn't just a good egg roll. This was the best egg roll I've had in Florida. No debate. No hesitation. Crown it. This place has been hit or miss for us which is a shame as it could really be a star! During our last visit it took around 10 minutes for our server to come to our table. Pleople got seated all around us (after we sat down) and got drinks, noodles and even ordered before our server made it our to our table. Also, we seem to gravitate back to only few things on their Dim Sum and Dumplings menu like the ribs & soup dumplings. We still find their main menu limiting and missing things especially since we don't eat beef or fried items. We also had their Mu Shu and it was so watery, the pancakes didn't hold up. Too bad they stopped with the specials as we occassionally got a nice fish dish or something different to try. Time to keep hunting for other places to keep in our rotation. I first got to write about Red Pine when it had opened a couple years ago. I remember we were worried that it wouldn't last. Boca likes its steakhouses and pasta joints. Most things more original rarely last. I'm happy to say that when we popped in the other day the place is alive and well. It always has a decent crowd these days. Their fried rice is great, and the dumplings are one of their specialty's. We have tried and enjoyed many of their appetizers as the happy hour is solid. This restaurant is unbelievably beautiful and the food we ordered was scrumptious and exactly as we remembered, but everything came out wrong with a lengthy wait. Our cold noodles had no peanut sauce, our duck wrap came once as scallion wrap and second time came as duck, scallion pizza. We dine here quite often so last night we found ourselves there ready to enjoy the evening. It was somewhat special as I recently had some surgery which was serious, which thankfully was resolved. Using the word special in this case means I/we had an opportunity to continue our lifestyle , which includes dining in restaurants such as Red Pine. Who would think that an upscale Chinese restaurant would be hidden on the ground floor of an office building in Boca? Located at one Town Center, Road, this is the old Tyco building and it's in between military Trail and Town Center Mall. There's a big parking garage near the building and there's parking in the back of the building off Military. The inside is decorated beautifully. It's warm and inviting and the bar area is nice with plenty of seating. Met friends at the bar for happy hour. This is one of the better happy hours. Monday - Saturday 3 - 6 and Sunday 3 - 9. Discounted drinks and a nice selection of dumplings and bar bites. We had our share of appetizers. The dumplings were light and filled with bok choy, pork, and chicken. I have to say the chicken was outstanding, it was the sauce that came with it that made them stand out. It was a chili peanut sauce with a little hint of cinnamon. Steamed Bau Buns were tasty. Chinese Sticky Ribs were messy but very, very good. we sampled almost everything on the menu. Those were the standouts and I thought the fried rice was a little bland. All in all the food was good. 3% is added to the check for credit card. It's a great place for happy hour if you can get there before 6 o'clock. I like this place. I have been to the bar for happy hour a few times since my first visit, which was a full meal in the dining room. Not much new to report.... a little inconsistent. If you are looking for serious Chinese food, not the best choice. However, if you stick to the apps, particularly the dumplings, you can enjoy yourself, particularly at HH when the prices are reduced. Pork Long Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Dan Dan Noodles, Soup Dumplings (regular menu), Brussel Sprouts (sauce on side as they drench it otherwise), WonTon Soup (reg menu) are ok to order. After hearing about this place from others we tried it. The good --nice vibe -staff was pleasant and friendly --and most of the food was terrific. Duck is 5 stars -sesame beef 4 stars --egg roll 5 stars but the shrimp toast was a 1-really greasy and the endamane really tasted like an ocean salt by the beach (some may like it).. we would have given a 3:5 star but not a option so graded down because when they asked how the shrimp toast we did say greasy -and then they sad Xx nothing or offered us something... would we come back? I really love this place! I've been here twice now and can't wait to go back for the third and fourth time. It is solid Chinese-American food done right. I have a sensitive stomach and the fact that their food doesn't give me a stomach ache says a lot! The location is a bit weird because it is inside an office building and the energy feels a little weird inside, like the space is confused or something but it's nice inside and the service is good. I do wish their times and specials were more clear because happy hour is only if you sit at the bar and the restaurant doesn't open until like 4pm I think but you can't sit at a table until 5? Nice ambiance, gracious service from start to finish. Loved the family style/sharing approach and lots of unique offerings (vs most local Chinese restaurants). Especially appreciated the unique mocktails, followed by Dim Sum and Dumplings. Highly recommend the pork soup dumplings, general tso bao buns, and king pao chicken. Sunday Happy Hour at the bar 3:00 to 9:00 PM. Arrived at 5:00 no problem seating, party of three. The rest of the restaurant was basically empty to the atmosphere was quiet. There were two servers behind the bar so service was pleasant and efficient. We had 5 drinks and 7 dishes. We left quite full with some take-home. Total tab prior to tip was $102. We enjoyed all our dishes, but note that the bar menu is limited. A very pleasant experience. Sundays are great since Happy hour continues past 6:00 PM. Sophisticated ambiance. Very disappointing meal. Ordered the scallion pancakes - they came very oily with no taste - when we sent them back, the servers response was "yeah, a lot of people send this back".!!! The menu is very limited and the service was very slow, when there was no reason for that. Probably the worst Peking duck I've ever had actually... it was supposed to serve 2 to 3 ..they give you five small wrappers...those were cold too.. the second part of the Peking duck is a veggie bean sprout dish with duck, allegedly, that's a joke too ..sat at the bar completely ignored ..took us an hour and a half to get out of there ..didn't even get my water refilled. I wanted to dine here since their opening, as what I read on-line looked impressive, as to the ambience and the food offerings. I was impressed that the owners, the same group which operates Farmers Table further north on Military, were introducing menu selections gradually, and also did not offer lunch at first (and as since ceased that service, perhaps because of the slow summer months), and now offers a nice happy hour. This review is of the happy hour only, which my husband and I experienced in early June, arriving at 4:15. We were accompanied by three lady friends in their late 70's/early 80's, who absolutely LOVE happy hours, as they can eat and drink a lot, all at greatly reduced prices. We were allowed to sit at a table in the bar area, although at first the hostess told us we had to sit at the bar. I explained that the women who would soon join us would likely fall off the bar seats, once they maneuvered themselves on to them, and perhaps she could ask her manager for permission. Note, the dining room area of the restaurant was empty, as well as all of the tables in the bar area, so I figured my request was reasonable. Apparently the manager agreed with us. Between the five of us, we tried several items - PORK LOIN DUMPLINGS, CRISPY SHRIMP, RIBS, CHICKEN FRIED RICE, ANGRY FRIED RICE, GENERAL TSO CHICKEN, CHICKEN BAO BUN. Each was well prepared, nicely presented, and brought to the table HOT, and not luke warm. I abhor luke warm food, more than poor service. I would re-order any of them, especially the buns, angry fried rice, and pork loin dumplings. The chardonnay was $7 a glass, and the Tanqueray 3oz martini was $9. My friend who loves gin martinis raved about this one. I am embarrassed not to recall the server's name, but did recall that she was professional, good spirited, answered the 30+ questions asked by the ladies, and was abundantly patient while they decided amongst themselves what they wanted. (oy..) Oh, she had a lot on ink on her arms and neck, but that may not distinguish her from others with a similar passion for inked body skin. Service was professional and prompt, items brought as they were ready, with multiple food presenters, so nothing sat around. Check was $127 with tax, before tip, and we had a lot of food and drinks, plus bottled sparkling water for that amount. Will we return? Yes, without the ladies, so we can enjoy the beautiful setting of the dining room, do not have to pig out at happy hours, can eat reasonably off the dinner menu. They can be difficult to locate. Basically, they are in an office building which has Bank of America as major tenant, on the ground floor, with plenty of slef parking. I do not know if they offer valet in season. Put the address in your GPS, and follow directions. We tried various options on the happy hour menu: chicken dumplings, Brussels sprouts, chicken fried rice, general tso chicken, and for dessert we tried the sponge cake. Brussels sprouts were overcooked and almost burnt. The chicken in both the rice and the general Tso were ok. Overall, the food lacked a lot of flavor. None of the meals were my favorite but it wasn't terrible. Overall, it's a cute place. We didn't have any drinks but they looked really good. Food was ok. We had a variety of the appetizers from the menu as well as a drink (Titos and club soda with lime); cucumber chili salad (very good), edamame (wok fired)-good; chic chow eggplant salad, shrimp bar bun and crispy chili lemon shrimp. I liked all the dishes - it's definitely a good place to try out and happy hour is the best way. They do offer takeout as well. The place is very pretty and is located in an office building which is a bit strange but you get used to it! After many times here I can definitely say this is one of our favorite HH spots in town. As soon as they opened we were here, excited to have a new place with a cool bar vibe and delicious food. So far we've always sat at the bar and love the service. They always keep the area clean and ready for their customers, and no matter how busy they are they always get to you quickly. They have fun signature drinks, a great wine list, and can make any drink you want with their full bar. During HH the prices are great and they have a good food menu during this time too.
