We showed up on a Saturday night and I was expecting it to be a lot busier. I assumed it would be crawling with rugrats and ankle biters but my friend and I were it. They had a Saturday night special where it was unlimited play with any type of blaster. There was about 1.5-2 hours left before they closed up and figured we could play a lot of games. Since it was the two of us it was mano y mano while we had a gamesmaster/ref/time keeper there. The space is littered with Darts and with the variety of blasters available you need to be cognizant of what 'caliber' you're using. A family ended of four ended up coming in so despite being outnumbered 2-1 we beat them due to superior tactics, coordinated teamwork and the fact that two of the them hadn't hit puberty yet. Hey, a win's a win!

I had a coupon for me and a plus one to have a reserved seat for free at the Dell Diamond, and I wanted to take advantage of it. I convinced my buddy to go with me to an opening series game where the Round Rock Express faced the Gwinnett Stripers. We agreed to go on a Wednesday to get our dollar hot dog night on. You know how that goes. Of course, going to every sporting event feels like they are going to nickel and dime you. It's $15 for parking, so if you can carpool, I'd highly recommend it. Beers range from $12 for domestic to $14 for craft. Everything is pricey. The hot dogs still remained $2 the whole night. Selfishly, I ate 5 over the nine innings. I didn't eat much through the day, and a decent ballpark dog was calling my name. As for the actual game, it was over by the second inning. The night was very windy, so no balls had a chance to go yard. The Stripers scored 6 runs at the top of the 2nd and it was 7 scoreless innings for the Express. Ay caramba. The nice gentleman in front of us was at the game with his wife and gave us good conversation. We watched kids rabid for the flying foul balls. Sometimes the game isn't even the most entertaining part because the stadium has a story of its own. The hot dogs were very nice. At a dollar, they could be lukewarm, soggy, and wrinkled, but they were dense, flavorful, and actually pretty good. Sometimes I wonder if dollar dogs are cheaper and they probably are, but you couldn't fool me. They weren't jumbo quarter-pound dogs by any means, but they were a normal quality-sized wiener. I drank a draft of the Love Street Blonde, one of my favorite common craft beverages, and got a can of Michelob Ultra from a very nice hawker that I obviously tipped. I just don't really like Michelob Ultra, I realize. I took a stroll through the Dell Diamond before leaving and there's a lot of cool spots from their yard in the back, which is great for just relaxing during the game, though the view isn't the most ideal for the action (great for bombs though). There's a full bar as well with baseball simulators and TVs showing other games, but if I'm paying money to park and watch a game, maybe that's not the move IMO. Regardless of the Express getting rocked by the Stripers, I had a great time and want to return to more Express games this season. As a young adult, the deals on weekdays are too good to pass up. Thursday might be a move in the future for those $4 domestics, $7 drafts, and cheaper food options around the park. Maybe next time the Express will get more runs than hot dogs I ate. The tour guide was friendly and showed us a cool corn vase but quickly moved on to another patron who came in after us so we were self guided after that. There is also a garden but it was not in bloom when we were there. Parking is on the street. Donations appreciated but not required. Hours are narrow but you can also call them for a tour.

My daughter and her friends had an amazing time exploring the space and playing. They offer a variety of birthday party packages. I opted for the mid-tier package and rented out the whole space. The package I selected included goody bags, cupcakes, and decor which was nice; I appreciated having them handle that and they made good selections. While the space and ease of the preparations were wonderful, I felt a couple of things could've been better: 1. I had a lot of email back and forth with the party planner. She was responsive & answered my questions, but didn't provide much proactive information. It would've been nice to have a touch base phone call to go over final details and logistics the week before the party. 2. For the price I would've appreciated if they included atleast one add-on such as slime or crafts. 3. It is a very tight window - 1.5 hours with only 30 mins in the private room. I wish we could've had a total of 2 hours in the space so it wouldn't have felt as rushed.

This is only the 2nd annual Olive Fest held at Volente Beach so it's still a bit on the smaller…read moreside; however, the organizers did a wonderful job! They even provided a site map and schedule of events. In total there were about 17 different booths selling locals foods (cheeses, salsa, honey, etc.), handmade crafts, other, and of course Texas olive oils. There were several samples about - including dipping oils and olive oil ice cream, yum! Free Texas wines to taste. Beers and cocktails for sale at Volente Beach Bar Hut. Also, there were food demos throughout the day by chefs from Shore Club, using olive oil of course! One dish was seared ahi and sauteed spinach and all of the spectators got a small plate to sample. Live music played all day. Very causal and chill day by the lake. I can really see the potential for this festival to grow in the years to come! More things OLIVE please?!
