A friend recently told me about the theatre and their overall positive experience. Date night with the hubs...we decided to see the new Michael movie. The movie was very well done and captivating. I learned some new things about Michael. First, he was huge visualization and positive imaging guy...likely one of the keys to his success. Also, I did not know he lived as long with his family (according to the hubs he was 29 years old.) Finally, I did not know the fire to his head while filming the Pepsi commercial caused 3rd degree burns and nerve damage which required pain medications. Now for the brewhouse, if you are a big fan of beer, then this is the place for you. I do not drink beer, so this was certainly not my draw. If you like beer, they have a huge assortment to choose from. As you walk into the theatre you can see large metal vats, which you might see in any brewery. In addition, the theatre is extremely comfortable with stadium type seating. You can recline into pure comfort. The sodas and popcorn were topnotch...fresh and tasty. Buying movie tickets is completely online through a kiosk...very straightforward and easy. Will definitely be back...

A member of management approached us and asked us to stop being affectionate because Flix was supposedly a "family business." That explanation struck me as remarkably inconsistent. This is a movie theater that serves alcohol and shows films containing far more mature and explicit content than two consenting adults kissing. If another customer felt uncomfortable, that was their personal reaction--not harm being inflicted upon them. We were not involving anyone else or interfering with anyone's experience. Management had the authority to make the request, but that does not make the judgment reasonable. Accommodating someone's subjective discomfort by policing harmless adult affection--particularly in the bar area during the evening--reflects misplaced priorities. The experience made the atmosphere feel judgmental and unwelcoming, and it left me with no desire to return.

A while later, someone finally brought the food. However, it was ice cold. It had clearly been left sitting out. We then had to leave the theater again to address the issue. Thankfully we were given a refund and some free popcorn, which we greatly appreciated (as we were very hungry and about an hour into the movie at that point). The bathrooms were also rough. They were pretty dirty with several toilets unusable and toilet paper all over the floor. The smell was quite unpleasant.

I was so excited to attend, especially since it was my first time. It was promoted as a fun, community-based event -- but the reality was completely different once we arrived. As a family of eight, we were told there was an entrance fee of $10 per person for one day, $15 per person the next day, and around $20 on the last day. You're telling me I'd have to pay $80 just to walk in with my family to walk inside a public park with vendors? On top of that, there were tons of small businesses, vendors, and rides for the kids -- which is great -but you have to pay for that as well. Nowhere online did it clearly say there was an admission fee just to enter -- $10 the first day, $15 the next, and $20-$25 the final day. And keep in mind, this was held at a public park. They completely gated the entire area off, like literally fenced it off every inch with metal gates so no one could enter without paying -- it felt like a lockdown, not a festival. It's honestly frustrating that a city like Pflugerville, which is supposed to be so "community-oriented," would host an event that excludes people based on whether they can afford to pay just to walk into a public space. What if someone just wanted to support local small businesses or grab food from a food truck? If you have a family of 4, 5, 6, 7 -- you're dropping $50, $60, $70, $80 just to get in. The advertising was misleading, and the setup felt more about profit than community. I really hope future events are more transparent and actually represent the community spirit they claim to have. Also, where exactly do these funds go? Because ,I have no clue. They should be ashamed charging people to enter a public park -- especially when everyone inside is already spending money.

This German-themed extravaganza is packed to the brim with pflavors, pfun, and a whole lot of Pflugerville spirit! But before you spurt off to this pfestival with cash in hand, be aware that Deutschen Pfest no longer accepts cash for admission, so you best be prepared to buy your tickets online @ deutschenpfest.com. Or, for those of you with a penchant for traditional German garb, dust off your lederhosen and dirndls, because wearing these gets you in for free! No pfun pfest would be pfullfilling without prodigious draft beers. Pfriends, they got'em here. Oh, the glory of lifting a gigantic beer stein and taking a deep gulp of that golden, frothy goodness! Oh, and the bratwurst! These bratwursts are the real deal, grilled to perfection and bursting with meat juice. I guess you could say that the pflavor is pfabulous! This is the second year in a row to visit, and the layout of the pfestival this year was nearly a photocopy of last year's event. But hey, if it ain't broke, don't pfix it, right? All-in-all, Deutschen Pfest in Pfluger Park is an annual option for anyone looking to indulge in some German-themed pfun, beers, food, games, rides, vendors, and some pfantastic music. I've had a great experience every time I've gone to The Howard. The staff is friendly, the tickets and concessions are really affordable, and the theater is comfortable. Drive-in theaters have been experiencing a resurgence in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic as they allow movie-goers to maintain social distance from others while still having a night out. If you're looking to visit a drive-in. This also holds true for Austinites. The newest drive-in location brought to Austinies by Blue Starlight Central sits on a lot behind the VFW. Locations such as this one will most certainly renew the drive-in outdoor experience. Last night, the Things and a companion and I watched "Imaginary" (the latest flix brought to viewers from Blumhouse). Those interested in attending a movie here must purchase their tickets on-line in advance of the showing. When arriving at the drive-in, movie goers must show their confirmation of payment for the movie either via electronic receipt on a cell phone or printed copy of payment. After showing proof of payment, mover goers are given instructions on what radio station to tune into to hear the movie (long gone are the days of speakers that are able to be affixed to vehicles once parked). I purchased four tickets and a car slot pack for 4. Packs include two canned sodas of choice, two candies of choice and two warm bags of freshly popped popcorn. This location unlike the other Blue Starlight Central does not serve alcoholic beverages. As noted previously, this location sits behind VFW but is also adjacent to an apartment complex. With this being said, the lights from the apartment complex put somewhat of a haze on the second screen, making it somewhat difficult to see scenes that are in low to dim light. Because this location is newish, there were very few movie goers last night for the screen we watched. In fact, we were only in one of three vehicles watching our screen. This was nice as we were able to sit in our truck bed with blankets and a radio tuned to the drive-in station and were also able to put out our lawn chairs next to the truck and not be next to any other cars/vehicles. This location's decor certainly does give a vintage 1950s vibe. As it relates to this vintage appeal, it should be noted that this is not the fanciest drive-in but does make up for ​​lack of the newest this or that by conjuring up nostalgic memories of days gone by. I loved the setup, putting vendors back to back and not closing off the regular stores in the area. We wandered for a few hours checking out stores and booths, mixing between so we could get relief from the heat. We were able to be more exposed to stores we maybe wouldn't have stopped into before this event. Due to the event spanning multiple blocks it was easy to find street parking that didn't feel super far away from the action. They had a designated area where 6 or 7 food trucks were parked. This was the only area that needs to be setup differently in the future. Long lines and it was confusing who was in line and difficult to stay out of others way or to get through past people waiting in line or for food to be done. We'll definitely be attending again next year and will probably go later in the day to enjoy the free concerts in the square as well.

There are breweries from Shiner and Real Ale to some newer and smaller ones you may have not heard of. There are special tappings at certain times as well. Each year it gets more and more organized and incredible. No kids, pets or smoking allowed- which I love (although people somehow get away with smoking). If you are a beer nerd this is definitely the place for you! I would recommend having something in your stomach beforehand since the ABVs are quite high and hit you fast.

Not only are you supporting our local breweries, the proceeds from the festival benefits the Austin Sunshine Camps, that provides services to economically disadvantage boys and girls in our area. The festival is held outside at Fiesta Gardens and is a great way to spend a couple hours on a weekend. For a small entry fee of $20, you get a commemorative 4oz. plastic tasting glass and 6 tickets for sampling the large variety of Texas brews. You can opt to purchase beers, but I found the sampling tickets sufficient, given the high alcholic content of the beers (this aint your Budlight!) and the generous pours from each brewery. Most of the breweries also had a special tap at different times throughout the event. There is also an option for designated drivers ($10 fee for nonalcoholic beverages) and $20-30 extra for food and wine pairings. The Antonelli cheese and beer and the Delysia chocolate and beer pairings looked interesting. I'll be sure to sign up for them next year! Overall, the event was relaxing and ran extremely smooth. There is plenty of street parking in the area, but the neighborhood is a bit sketchy. There were lines, but we never waited too long at any of them. The beers were cold and delicious. There was plenty of space to wander and a large shaded area with live music and seating. My only complaint was the food option was pretty slim (Red's Porch, who opened late, Boomerang, a pretzel place and some awful taco stand). A larger variety of local food trucks and better music would definitely make this a 5-star event. If you love craft beer, this IS the event for you. My favorites were from 512 Brewing, Live Oak, Hops and Grains and No Label. I look forward to making this one of my annual events.
