    Wet floor

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED--STAY TF AWAY FROM THIS SHITHOLE. KEEP DRIVING TO LUMBERTON OR HOME!! Our first surprise was the Superior King room we reserved AND PAID FOR ONLINE, was unavailable, the girl at the desk put us into room 112. Room 112 has 2 Queen beds. We were let in by the front desk person, because this room has a non working electronic lock. That meant we could not both go anywhere to eat dinner. Anytime we went out, we would have to leave the door open so we could get back into the room. There was no smoke detector in the room, we did look for it and it was inside a drawer with the battery removed. The telephone did not work, it was plugged into the wall. This does not seem safe or legal to rent a room without operational smoke detectors. While the TV remote control had batteries, there was no cover for the battery compartment. The microwave oven was dirty and has a hole in the front window. We did not use microwave. The floor appeared to have water damage as some of the wood floor was buckled and lifted. There was a black substance in the cracks of the floor, possible mold, but did not take a sample for testing. The toilet was dirty, appeared to have iron stains in the bowl. The tank or something in bathroom was leaking water onto the floor near the commode. The refrigerator compressor made a moaning sound ALL NIGHT, which made it difficult to sleep. The biggest surprise was when we attempted to shower the following morning. At first brown water came out of the spigot, that cleared up but we were unable to adjust the temperature so the only water to shower with was COLD! No adjustment of the knob was possible. I'm going to call the county health department, there is NO WAY THIS PLACE HAS AN OCCUPANCY PERMIT!!! NO NEED FOR THE MANAGER??? TO LEAVE YOUR STANDARD REPLY THAT YOU'LL DO BETTER NEXT TIME, there won't be a next time. TTFN REDROOF INN

Upon first glance looked okay, Until the morning and the shower didn't even work! But you can see the fridge not closed all the way.

My stay at this Red Roof Inn was unacceptable. I'm taking the time to share my experience across platforms so others don't make the same mistake I did staying here. I strongly recommend finding another motel and not wasting your money here. When I first arrived, the room seemed okay. However, the next morning I woke up and discovered the shower didn't even work. A working shower is a basic amenity that should be a given in any hotel. The refrigerator in the room was also leaking and ruined the food I had stored inside. When I opened it, I even found a roach inside the fridge, which was extremely unsanitary. You can see in the photos that the fridge wouldn't even close properly. There was no TV remote, so the television couldn't be used, and the key card for my room didn't work properly. I had to rely on office staff to let me back into my room. Before I left, the woman at the front desk told me the manager would call me about a refund and even asked for my Cash App. I never received a call or any refund. When I called the corporate 800 number, they were no help and told me it was the hotel's responsibility and they would not issue a refund. I would add the video of the shower not working, but Google/yelp only allows photos. After this experience, I guess I'll have to test the shower immediately when entering any motel or hotel. Basic amenities should be a given. See the photos for yourself.

Mold, on the bedding!!!!!! Room smelled of urine. These things need to be rectified immediately. We will never go back and never stay at a Red Rood Inna gain, anywhere.

Worst hotel I've stayed at in my 7 years of traveling. - bathroom light didn't work - key card didn't work for the room. Manager had to let us in our room, and said if we had to leave we'd have to go to the front desk to get access again - unidentified liquid spill a foot wide near one of the beds upon arrival - towels are extremely small and scratchy like sand paper - breakfast consisted of various wheat/gluten highly processed products such as off brand fruit loops, waffle mix, and a nice (poisonous) silicone non-stick spray for the waffle maker And all that for 104$/might even though the place looked pretty empty. Highway robbery.

Bathtub/shower cracked down middle bottom with rust on jagged edges.

Place should be condemned as is extremely unsafe and should not be allowed to operate or charge for rooms in such unsafe conditions. Short list includes smoke detector in room removed and covered in plastic to prevent from detecting smoke, bathtub literally split in half on bottom and extremely rusted on jagged edges in middle of.shower and uneven floors with tripping hazards everywhere. Free breakfast is massive lie as waffle mix dispenser has broken facet so no way to get mix out to male waffles and employee kept saying she had waffle mix but that couldnt use it, so then no, there is not waffles available. There was ceral but they were out of milk despite is going to get breakfast at 7:15am, showing they dont restock milk and free breakfast is massive lie.

A Timeless Stay at the Motor Inn - South of the Border, Hamer, NC…read more The Motor Inn at South of the Border is more than just a place to rest--it's a piece of Americana that deserves to shine again. From the neon glow at night to the nostalgic charm that lingers around every corner, staying here feels like stepping into another era. The rooms are simple, comfortable, and filled with the character of a roadside treasure that has welcomed travelers for generations. What makes this place special isn't just the rooms--it's the lure of South of the Border itself. This iconic stop has been part of countless road trips, family vacations, and southern adventures. Keeping it alive, relevant, and celebrated is important not only for travelers but for preserving a cultural landmark. That's why I, Thomas Miller--author of South of the Border: The Motel That Eats Time--have dedicated my writing to capturing that magic. My book blends nostalgia with horror, weaving a story that keeps South of the Border alive in the imagination of readers everywhere. Horror might seem like an unlikely ally, but through it, I'm shining a light on this place, ensuring its legend continues and new generations rediscover its lure. If you're planning a road trip through North or South Carolina, I highly recommend booking a night at the Motor Inn. Come for the neon lights, stay for the history, and experience the atmosphere that inspired my novel. And if you want to take a piece of that magic with you, check out my book here: South of the Border: The Motel That Eats Time .https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRYD4V23 From the Pen of Thomas Miller Author of South of the Border: The Motel That Eats Time

From the housekeeping that i told when i saw them outside to disregard cleaning my room to the reception staff, everyone on the grounds was so nice. Now listen. When I booked this I was not expecting the Ritz, but i will say I was pleased with the room! It was huge. My room had two double beds with tons of space and a huge bathroom. Now, the room was not gorgeous and the tv had like ten channels and the wifi barely worked but these rooms and the hotel is designed for a quick stay so I get it. I tried using the indoor pool- you get your towels from the front desk- the towels are super cheap and make sure you have your wrist band in case security asks you (yes you read that right). The indoor pool as well as the outdoor pool could use some TLC. The bottoms need to be scrubbed. Actually everything could there. I feel like every thing here needs to be tweaked just slightly. The pool chairs outside had like permanent dirt marks in them. Things were usable but looked dirty if that makes sense. Now of course, the hotel is on South of the Border grounds which puts you near their restaurants and shops which for your overnight is good and you can walk back and forth to places. I wondered about safety and such being that it was such a transient place but there were not issues at all. I didn't feel unsafe at all. My car wasn't disturbed. It wasn't noisy and actually, i slept well. If the place was kept up better, it would be a really great place. I know they don't get the traffic that I'm sure they used to, so i see why they don't. But the location is a great stopping / overnight spot from so many great places. I'm glad I stayed here and i might possible do it again.

IF YOU HAVE A CHOICE BETWEEN SLEEPING AT A REST STOP .....SLEEP THERE!!!! BLACK MOLD, ROACHES and FILTH like I have never seen. The ONE positive was the desk person Dawn. She was helpful, kind, and went out of her way to answer questions from this tired traveler. This hotel needs to hold on to her....because honestly....the review goes down from here. Oh.....FREE WIFI...that is actually pretty good. I booked this hotel as I was driving on I-95, on my Travelocity app. Got the room for 43 dollars plus tax. WAY OVER PRICED! I am in room 107, and there is a flat screen TV in here. The first thing I did was disinfect the doorhandles, and the remote. (yeah).... The AC is OLD, and has.....crumbs, or a dead bug.....something in it. It is VERY dusty, and I have asthma. There is no way to change the direction of the vents, so I had to improvise and put the backs of both "chairs" to the AC vent, and direct the cooler air up, instead of on me. The owner REALLY needs to invest in some new furniture, and CLEAN THE CARPETS.....caulk the tub so it is white.......not rocket science. South Carolina is a very cool state...I would hate some ones impression of the state....to be this hotel. Ok ...uncle.( a few hours later) This place needs to be shut down. Seriously. Black mold, nothing is clean, roaches everywhere..Ick. I usually sleep naked....said no one ever in this hotel. This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in....and that is saying something. I sprayed the comforter with bug spray and slept with my clothes on, on top of the comforter. NO SKIN touching.
