First time trying their fare. Very pleased with my meal. I had the "Hey Y'all" burger and matchstick fries on the side. It was cooked as requested, medium well. It was filling but not too much. To be totally honest it was a little messy to eat but, hey, that's what comfort food is all about! The service was spot on. Quick and attentive yet not pesty. The ambience is comfortable, a down home feel and at the same time intimate. The music set a relaxed mood and did not overwhelm. We were able to carry on a normal conversation with our lunch. Got to our table a family of 4 which was all the way by the kitchen. Our waitress took our order for drinks and sent someone else to deliver them and on top of that it was the wrong order. Our wait ballooned from 20 minutes to an hour. Meanwhile, there are 7 empty tables that no one is allowed to be sat at until the kitchen catches up. Britany the manager has a nice personality, but I'm perplexed that she "managed" to get her uniform on this morning. Rather than seating elderly customers with canes, she insisted that the rules are the rules and no one can be seated DESPITE ALL THE EMPTY TABLES. My sister and I frequented the Red Rooster and took several friends there at the old Red Rooster location We decided to try the new location for breakfast. We were seated and after 10 minutes I got up and located a waitress she took our drink order and never returned. I once again got up and located our missing waitress. She once again returned with drinks, no silverware! I went and got the silverware from the hostess! She finally returned and we placed our order. No refills on coffee, water etc. which we ask for, once again she NEVER returned. I got up again and walked to the kitchen to inquire about our easy breezy breakfast. After about 10 more minutes we then got up and walked up to the person at the bar and stated we were paying for our coffee and juice. She said Oh you order is ready. I said we had an appointment and were leaving. They tossed our breakfast into a to go box handed it to us. I paid the bill no tip (first time ever for me)! We tossed the messy breakfast into the trash bin. Will not return sad because we always enjoyed eating there! read more

We should have gone to Waffle House, it would have been more accommodating. Our food was nothing special, a normal breakfast spread. The service was horrible. As a table of nurses and first responders, we understand the COVID19 restrictions and the restaraunt's decision to only accommodate outdoor dining. What we don't understand is while many tables sat empty in the shade, we were taken to the one baking in the sun. We have 3 children and a 9 month old infant. After asking to move a free standing umbrella to our table, our waitress was hesitant but said sure, that she may get in trouble for it, but to do it anyway. We began moving the umbrella and another waitress yelled across the entire establishment for us to stop, that we could not just move the umbrellas around. We moved it anyway.. we had shifted the children and 9 month old around the table so many times and there was just no shade for them. After an uninviting experience, we got a 20% gratuity added to our tab. They gratuity tables that are over 8 guests (I specifically asked)... we had 8 (sure) INCLUDING the breastfed 9 month old. We would've tipped our deserving server more than 20%, we've been tipping 50% during the COVID19 pandemic. We will not be returning to this establishment for a subpar meal and horrible service. read more

I have eaten here 4 times and like the food a lot but the service is poor. I had read several reviews about poor service prior to eating here this year. Last time during a pick up order the bar staff was snappy with me and another customer because she went to check on our orders and overheard us talking about what may be taking her so long. Today Melany was our waitress for lunch. I ordered expensive coffee drinks and specifically asked her to make sure they put whip cream on my wife`s otherwise she will have to send it back. Not only did she forget, she never came back to our table for 20 minutes until our meal was ready thus preventing us from asking for it to be corrected. She also never came back during the meal to check on us nor asked if we wanted more drinks or desert. Also I observed when she left the table beside ours she rolled her eyes after speaking with an elderly couple. I decided to not tip her and wrote a note on her bill explaining why on the check. Unfortunately this will prevent me from coming back for quite some time because I would hate to have her as my waitress and risk her spitting in my food. This sort of problem is why so many restaurants go out of business. What a shame. read more

There is a difference between "specialty" and "special". This place had a lot of the former and none of the latter. Went there with wife and daughters on a weekday last week. Arrived around 10:30. Place was practically empty, which should have told us something. Waitress was initially very attentive but her attention waned as our stay went on. Every item on the menu was some kind of specialty item and many sounded not-that-good to me. I ordered a basic, traditional breakfast, called a "Southern Sunrise" with bacon, eggs, a biscuit and cheese grits, which cost $9. I also ordered an extra side of bacon, 2 slices, for $3.95. We ordered a "Breakfast at Tiffany's" to share. It was supposed to be french-bread french-toast, but it was a soggy, buttery, greasy mess. $11.25 for that. One of my daughters ordered "The Posse", which was a breakfast pannini. It was loaded with so much mayonaise (we assume it was mayonaise) that she had to take it apart and eat the eggs and ham separately. My wife and other daughter were equally dissappointed with their meals. The bill, breakfast for 4, was $65 with tip. An insane amount of money for a mediocre meal. With so many good restaurants around, I can't recommend this one. read more

I rarely give a 5 star review but the Red Rooster food is worthy of it. We have eaten at so many Beaufort restaurants especially in the Bay Street area and we were looking for a change. The menu looked interesting so we gave it a try and 5 stars was the result! My sandwich (the "Yo, Adrian") was extremely flavorful and the matchstick fries perfectly cooked. Our server Ray was terrific; very friendly, attentive and made us feel right at home. All four of us enjoyed our selections and we will be returning next time we are in the Beaufort area. read more

We just moved to Beaufort about a month ago and ended up eating here for breakfast our first weekend in town. The food was fantastic and the service was great! We could not decide what to get from the menu and have had to go back a couple of times for lunch to try the different sandwiches and paninis. So disappointed after all the reviews. For a Saturday morning on a holiday weekend, it wasn't busy and so the staff apparently felt like they didn't have to work. No coffee refills, no check (the server was too busy talking on the phone and giving someone an address in New Jersey). The fried green tomato salad was terrific. The half-order of biscuits and gravy was terrible. Barely warm, unattractive plate, no garnish, mushy biscuit, too salty. Another woman came in with her 2 kids to pick up a to-go order and stood at the end of the bar waiting and waiting while her food got cold sitting there because no one would acknowledge her. I can't say enough about the outstanding breakfast the 3 of us just had!!!..Katlin was our server and she was so attentive with everything. We thought we over ordered but by the time we finished, almost everything was devoured!! I highly recommend the green eggs & ham (AKA..eggs Benedict with a twist) the Maui pancakes were perfect..just a hint of coconut & Macadamia nut on top....no need for syrup, the taste held its own. Biscuit and gravy were perfect/crispy biscuit smothered in just the right mix of sausage gravy. The grits with bacon/eggs, hit the spot. We ate outside and enjoyed a very nice morning. Although our Motel had free breakfast..The Red Rooster turned out to be in walking distance...virtually in the same parking lot...BONUS!!!!...After we were finished we looked at the menu next door....there sister restaurant for dinner, and really liked the creative menu items.....we will try them for dinner before we leave.....thank you for a great dinning experience!!!!!!!! read more

I wanted to try more menu options but my work schedule did not sync with their hours of 7 to 4. The lunch menu looked good too but I only got to try breakfast. Food was fine - a typical breakfast, but I'm beyond disappointed in their service. Why? Because they go out of their way to advertise themselves as being knowledgeable about gluten-free meals and clearly aren't despite other reviews praising how knowledgeable and helpful they are. Maybe I just got the wrong waitress. I was in town for work and had decided that I'd wait until today (Sunday) and treat myself to a nice breakfast with some gluten-free options. When my waitress came over, I told her I was there because of the gluten-free options and asked her if she could help me find something safe to eat. To say she stumbled through it would be too kind. So I asked her if there was someone else on staff that could help me. Rather than making any attempt to find someone, she said "well, what item are you interested in? I can ask the kitchen if they can do it gluten-free." No - I'd like to know what my options are so I can make a decision on my meal; not send you back and forth to the kitchen 10 times while we fumble through it. She made zero attempt to help any further. All I needed her to do was find someone more knowledgeable than she was and I really don't find that request overly demanding. So now here I sit with scrambled eggs and bacon. Again. Could have gotten that anywhere in town, probably cheaper. What a let down. read more

Popped in here for a late breakfast. Terrific biscuits & gravy, creamy grits, great southern breakfast options and a homey selection of lunch choices as well. Looks like they enjoy a great local following - the place was filling up with the lunch crowd. Very casual - great for families, couples or a business lunch. I'd go back in a heartbeat!
