Our waitress said the biscuits were so good! So I tried them with bacon. You got 2 for $10 which I think is a steal! The biscuits were def home made and perfectly fluffy!! The eggs were cooked to perfection with (my choice of cheese) I asked for cheddar and crispy bacon!! I couldn't eat both but tried like heck!! I took some home because I couldn't leave anything behind!! If I could give 10 stars because the vibe, the service and the setting were top notch! We went to Griddle & Grits in Beaufort today for breakfast, and wow, what a great experience. Deb had the country fried steak and absolutely went to town on it. She loved every bite. I had the crab cake biscuit with grits, and all I can say is: okay people... the world's greatest chef may have created these crab cakes. Crab cakes are one of my favorite things to eat, and this was honestly one of the best I've ever had. It was so good that I had to get the chef's name before we left so I could properly pay homage to Chef Maurice. And a special thank you to Mikaydyn for taking such great care of us. Brought my family here the morning after our grandsons graduation from boot camp. Between the eight of us, we each ordered something different. The corn beef hash meal was fantastic, a build your own omelette my wife had was cooked to perfection. Everyone agreed that the grits were perfect, regardless of what the topping was. The pancakes were huge, and Terri was enough for a meal. Needless to say, there wasn't any left overs. Decided to finally try this adorable little schoolhouse brunch place. It's very small inside but it is inside a historic schoolhouse. Very cute ambiance. Nice patio dining area. The food is good. Pretty standard southern soul food. Lot of brunch and grits options and a number of specials. Food was ok. Kinda salty but a lot of flavor. Service was good. Waitress was apologetic for the long wait and kept drinks filled. Nice place to visit, and just a 20 second walk away from the beautiful cypress wetlands. Would I go back? Yes. I unexpectedly ended up eating here on a Sunday morning during a visit to the Cyprus Wetlands. Since we didn't have a lot of time to eat we placed a take out order and then walked the wetlands trail. The food was ready for us by the end of the walk (about 20min). We were very impressed as the food was affordable and delicious! We ordered a meal of 2 sausage and egg biscuits and a side of chorizo grits. Our total was less than $20 which we were happy to pay. The biscuits were huge and fluffy with perfectly cooked eggs and melted cheese. The chorizo grits were so flavorful! Looked so promising. Great decor. Interesting menu. Good service. My husband had eggs, toast, ham and breakfast potatoes. It's not a cheap place. One piece of toast (?), potatoes with nothing. No seasoning. No onions. No Crispyness. Rest ok My disappointment was my pancake...the opposite of fluffy. Heavy and bland. My grits had no grit....they were a cup of creamy nothing. Again.....I had to season heavily. Egg good. We saw the cute building, made a special trip. Very disappointed. I hope the owner sees this....all an easy fix. They did the right thing by comp'ing two meals. One had a hair in it the other was a meal that is supposed to come with breakfast gravy on top. Waitress brings it out with no gravy and tells me it's coming soon. Sat for ten minutes, she brings me a cup of (not gravy). No flavor and consistency of water. Would not recommend. read more

One time I got here with my pops and it's amazing; the next time I bring my mom back to show her how good it is and it was terrible. What's with the lack of consistency? It was clearly a different chef that day because everything tasted different the second time. I really don't enjoy writing bad reviews, I think many establishments have a lot of good and I try to highlight the positive. However, I had a pretty dismal experience today at Griddle & Grits. We came in around 11:30 on a Friday, which I thought would be an off time. This is built in an old one room schoolhouse so the inside is very small with an outdoor patio. Our waitress said hello and said she'd be back. I thought she could bring a water or drop off a menu, but to each their own. We got waters quickly but my iced tea took awhile, but not a huge deal. Our food took at least 45 minutes (maybe more) to get to us. Even when we got our food, we had no silverware. The food was good/fair, worth trying out, but due to my poor experience with service, I wouldn't recommend this place. We go out a ton and in different states and areas, so we understand delays due to large parties or kitchen backup. However, our server didn't check on us at all or offer anything to ease the bad experience. They were otherwise preoccupied with guests they knew, rather than preemptively getting our silverware or checking on us. The menu did have a lot of variety with breakfast and lunch and we did enjoy our food, but I think I would've eaten anything after waiting so long. read more

This place is an absolute undiscovered gem that sits along the historic coast in The Palmetto State of South Carolina! A breakfast diner converted from an old one room school house, this place is jam packed with charm and old school southern charm! Not to be outdone by the ambiance is the food. Although they specialize in pancakes, they can pretty much whip up any southern classic breakfast food you can think of! I got The Mikey's Way Pancake Challenge: bacon, sausage, egg, and cheese all sandwiched between two 18 inch pancakes (yes... 18 inches) Let me tell ya, there's just something about made from scratch, buttermilk pancakes that the Walmart instant mix just can't imitate! These pancakes will send you to another real! So so good. Thick, fluffy, cakey, buttery... these things will send you back to childhood! I drove 3 hours to try these pancakes and I can tell ya, it was well worth the tank of gas! The only downside was the AC was busted on the day we visited so it was a little muggy, but I mean they were fixing it. Although the staff was sweating and hustling like crazy, they remained attentive and never lost that smile! Highly recommend! 10/10!!! read more

We have visited this establishment through its three name changes and different owners. We weren't in a rush to return after the previous proprietor sold, as we never had a good enough experience worth repeating. The interior space did not really reflect a "renovation" or "redesign". It was OK, but not super cozy or welcoming. The staff was incredibly friendly and efficient. The menu was absolutely breakfast forward, but it was lunch time and I noticed a French dip sandwich which used to be a favorite childhood pick. Once moving from the Midwest 30 years ago, I've rarely had a good FD. I was looking forward to finally break the spell. Really appreciated that you could pick your sides from a nice variety of offerings that were not limited to your basic fries or coleslaw. I opted for the fresh fruit bowl. My husband ordered the Reuben and waffle fries. His sandwich was a hit. The corned beef was not a deli sliced version which was awesome. The bread was griddled well and the sauerkraut added a nice but not overwhelming acidic hit. It was just in need of a bit more Thousand Island dressing. Surprisingly, my husband enjoyed the seasoned waffle fries. (We just prefer any fried potato without the ubiquitous coating). Sadly my quest to find a great French Dip in the South didn't materialize. It had potential- the bread was soft and fresh and the meat surprisingly plentiful and tender. Unfortunately, the only thing I could taste was salt. Absolutely no beefy flavor from the meat or the au jus. The best thing on my plate was the fruit bowl - blackberries, pineapple, blueberries, strawberries and melon. (Perfectly fresh, tart and sweet.). This was not a good experience, we sat outside and it was a beautiful day. We waited 45ish minutes for our food(a fruit bowl and breakfast burrito), we did not get any refills and weren't offered any refills, we asked for a to go box and waited 10 minutes for the to go box and then waited another 15 minutes just to get the check and once we got it, after another 10 minutes we had to ask another server to take our payment. The grits tasted like Dollar General unsalted butter, and the fruit bowl($7.99) was supposed to come with pineapple and blackberries and came with neither and the blueberries were wrinkly and squishy. On top of that the burrito I got was advertised at $11.99 and I was charged $12.49 which isn't a big deal but they should fix that. Personally, I don't like leaving reviews and actually this is my first review EVER, but this place was one of the top rated places in Port Royal and I want people to know to be cautious and expect to wait for mediocre food. Also we got 2 sides of bacon and in total it came with 4 pieces and we paid $8 for 4 pieces of bacon (which didn't have much flavor)! read more

We tried Griddle & Grits today for the first time. They had plenty of staff and the waitress kept our drinks full. They have an extensive breakfast menu, but we went with the lunch menu instead. My friend ordered The Belt, (a BLT) which is described as a meal so filling you will need to loosen your belt before you leave, not sure it was that big, lol. I had the half pound cheeseburger. We both had the waffle fries, which are very similar to Chick-fil-A. My friend would recommend the Belt to anyone who likes BLT's and we both would recommend the waffle fries. The cheeseburger was unremarkable, and there are much better burger options in this area, Beedo's and Fat Patties are definitely a better choice for burgers. 3 stars has to do more with the billing issues than the so-so cheeseburger. My meal is on the menu as cheeseburger, but when I received the bill, I was charged for the cheese, lettuce and the third item that escapes me at this time. The lady at the booth behind me had a similar issue with being charged extra for items that should have been included with her meal. I hope someone posts about the breakfast food, because I would probably give them a second try. read more
