I could have sworn I did a review for Red Rose here in Howell, but evidently I didn't-- so here it is--- I love that I can buy my favorite Italian cookies here by the pound and not have to drive all the way to Rockland Bakery, like I do for my bread every two weeks. My MIL really enjoys the strawberry cake here, it's not overly sweet and the med size cake lasts her about a week. Sh is 93, and it's important to her, that she has something special to serve her visitors, when she makes them coffee. What makes her happy, makes me happy. They do have other cakes, but this is the one I purchase most often along with cookies. stop in, the staff is really nice and friendly. read more

Red Rose was closed for 3 months due to the pandemic bur recently re-opened. It is great to have a local bakery close to the house and their selection of baked goods is impressive. I ordered a Chocolate/Chocolate/Chocolate cake for me wife and she loved the overall chocolate hit. I will definitely return for some other products (the bread selection looked good. Their main location is in Toms River and I believe that the majority of the baking is done at that location. If you are in need of some empty calories or need a chocolate fix, give them a try. read more

Can only comment on the cakes/ cupcakes I have bought from here. But- they are so good!! The cake is super soft and delicious. The icing is light and also delicious and not overly sweet. I'm not really sure they know what they're doing. The bread comes from NY but they claim baked "Fresh" ? I'm not sure who came up with that idea. I'd had their cookies and pastries years ago in their Toms River location, and I can say, I don't know what happened to the quality between there and now. It's a shame. read more

Got two pies for thanksgiving. Apple and pumpkin. They were terrible!! The pies had no taste to them and the crusts were very dry and tasteless. My daughter said the cookies were good. I ordered a variety. Picked them up and they were all chocolate coverd cookies. I asked about all the other cookies in their bakery case. I was told they were a special order. In all of my years going to bakeries I never heard such crap!! Never will I go there again! Also the place is always empty. read more

A few days ago a couple of friends came over for dinner and brought an assortment of cookies from Red Rose Bakery for dessert. They were so good that I was at the bakery the next morning to try more. I must say that I am usually unimpressed with the Italian cookie assortment from most bakeries. Not the case for this place. The Amaretti and Pignoli cookies were the best I have ever had in my life. They were so soft that you could leave a thumbprint in them by barely touching them and they tasted decadent. The Peanut Butter cookies were also delicious. The tops are coated with chocolate for a nice touch. While I am not usually a fan of Italian Butter cookies (I find them to usually be bland and dry) these were good and had interesting filling options. I highly recommend the chocolate and oreo creme fillings. The seven layer cookies were on par with what I have had elsewhere. They were good but just couldn't stand out against some of the other above mentioned options. I ordered the crumb cake for a sweet breakfast and it did not disappoint. It had some apple slices baked into the top of the cake which was a nice touch. Finally, the bakery had samples of cheesecake. The cheesecake was light, creamy and delicious and I will be sure to be ordering one the next time we host. I have been happy with everything that I have tried there and will certainly be back. I love that there is a bakery in Howell. Their normally pretty good. Ordered some cupcakes for a gathering. They are accommodating such as the type of cake and frosting. However, every bite you take the frosting and cake would separate so that was pretty annoying. Cake was kind of dry but maybe it was a bad day. The over all presentation of the cupcakes were good. I would try it again Got a cake for my daughter. They followed the picture pretty well. Their 7 layer cookies are my favorite. Their soft and best when cold. Their bread is also pretty good. I've had some cookies which were a little dry and crumby which was disappointing but oh well. Women up front is friendly. read more

My daughter has been picking up cup cakes from here and not only are they beautiful, they are also delicious! She buys a bunch of cupcakes instead of a birthday cake and then she cuts them in half and everyone goes crazy trying all different ones. It's so much fun and everyone gets a taste of everything. They think it's a great idea and way better then a cake. Now I just went in for the first rime to get a carrot cake for my future son-in-law and walked out with the cake and two small boxes of cookies and pastry, I seriously do not have will power!! So far I had a chocolate dipped biscotti, one Italian rainbow , and two French macaron, I'll regret the scale but so worth it! So happy to have a bakery in Howell!!! read more

I went in for a Graduation cake and left with that AND a slice of cake!! I eat cake, but not a everyday cake eatin bastard, and for me to buy a SLICE...even shocked the shit outta me! This cake raspberry, lemon frosted or something looked too good to pass up, so I bought my first slice of CAKE..not pizza, CAKE. I got home and wife even said"u bought a slice of CAKE??!" Lol. I used to go to Normandy or whatever the hell it is in Freehold but Howell finally has a quality bakery. Oh the graduation cake...FRESH STRAWBERRY filling was a hit and a game changer too, going that route from now on. They made it custom last minute and didn't disappoint just like the slice. I don't post many reviews but, this spot, I give credit when deserved...or trash a place too if it's deserved. read more

I went in for some cupcakes. They weren't for me so I cant comment on the taste, but the woman put them into the carrier without wearing gloves. She seemed to be careful not to touch them, which is the only reason o accepted them, but there's kind of a pandemic going on. They were friendly enough, but I don't t think I'll be coming back after that. read more

I'm not reviewing the quality of their products.  I have tried a few pastries and everything was fine and tasted fresh.  So, I decided to try their custom cake for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and support a local business.  Online ordering was simple and convenient.  It said you can order up to 2 days in advance.  I ordered 3 days in advance.  It was only a small round cake, nothing grand or outrageous.  I got an automatic confirmation email and it said someone would contact me asap to go over details.  The next day I figured someone would call but by the late afternoon still no call.  I called them as I wanted to make sure they got my order and if they had any questions or needed a deposit.  No one answered so I left a message.  About 15 minutes later I received a call and the girl told me that unfortunately they were unable to fulfill my order because they cut off orders early.  I asked her why she hadn't called me first thing in the morning so that I could make other arrangements and she told me that this was the first time she saw my order!  Well, she only saw my order because I left a message and then she looked it up.  Otherwise, was no one going to call me until the last minute?  Then it would have been too late to order a cake from anyone.  I was so upset and fortunately I was able to call Wegmans who was able to fulfill my cake order and save the day.  I will never order anything from this bakery again.  I was so disappointed in their customer service and lack of courtesy. read more
