This is a really nice restaurant the decor is really nice and authentic. The only problem with me is the menus didn't have any pictures. Also it's very hard to explain what your looking for to your waitress but he was very very polite and I wasn't disappointed in her decision. Normally the food is good but I went today for chicken pad thai trying for the first time. The noodles were thick, soggy & full peanuts not crumbled, no lemon wedge, chicken was tough not edible. The shrimp fried rice was old or over cooked with 3 shrimp (shrimp $2 extra). They give u plenty of food but if u can't eat it what's the point. Never buy thai from a Chinese restaurant. I have had good food here but this was the worst food I've ever had that I cant salvage any of it. I did eat half the egg roll if that matters. Very disappointed. read more

Just had take out from Red Ruby last night, and it was delicious. Never had Chinese in the area before, so I was taken aback by the addition of a roll, but I totally loved it. I got the General Tso's chicken dinner meal, which came with the chicken, fried rice, an egg roll, and a roll. I asked for it spicy, which didn't come to fruition, but it was good nonetheless. I tasted a little different than the General Tso's that I'd had in the past, but definitely not in a bad way. The rice was good, and the egg roll did the job as well. And for about $7.50, it was a great meal. I would definitely order from here again. read more

This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant to eat at! The staff is always very friendly on the rare occasion I decide to dine in instead of getting carry out. Everything I have gotten here has tasted so good that going anywhere else is a disappointment. My favorite will always be the almond chicken with egg drop soup. It's not greasy/oily at all but very tender and juicy. The gravy that goes on top is prime. Their egg rolls has a nice crunch and again cooked perfectly with very little to no oil dripping from it. I love dipping it in the little orange sauce that they give (sorry I completely forgot what it is called!) Anywhere else it just does not seem to taste right. This is the best Chinese food I've had in a very long time. I am extremely picky with my food. They had absolutely no problem customizing my dish for me the way I liked it. I ordered chicken lo mein with vegetables and it was perfect! Their hot and sour soup was one of the best I've ever had. My boyfriend ordered the General Tso's chicken and loved it, it was really good. And to top off the great food, the owner is so nice and friendly! Terrible. We ordered take-out--Szechuan Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Spring Rolls and Egg Rolls. The Szechuan Chicken was the worst I've ever had. There was no flavor, with a bit of heat. It was almost as if it was 'left-over'. The vegetables were overcooked and not a good variety of chinese vegetables, mostly beans, mushrooms and sprouts. The spring rolls were cold and mushy. I will NEVER eat here again. Not only that, the restaurant itself smelled bad, musty and old. If the food had been great and the restaurant smelled bad...fine. This is by far the worst Chinese food establishment in metro Detroit. I ordered sesame chicken and the sauce taste like ketchup with sugar. The rice was over cooked and very old tasting. They will gladly take your money for this nasty food but hate to give it back for this crap. I will say this for every other consumer. Listen up!!!!!!!! Save your money and drive past this place. Hands down the best Chinese in the area, This Family has the best take out ever and like most Asian take out you get a lot of bang for your buck. The Red Ruby also has a full dine in area that can accommodate almost any party size. Make sure to try the Sweet & Sour Chicken and Chicken Chop Suey. Red Ruby used to be better years ago. There are good days & bad days. Almond Chicken come w/o almonds. Chicken Fried Rice can be moist one day and dry the next time. Vegetable Spring Rolls are good. Order an upgrade to fried rice, and the server brought white rice. Ordered Sechwan shrimp, and the server brought sweet and sour shrimp. I wouldn't have minded if it tasted good, but S&S shrimp had so much breeding, it was soggy. read more

First things first: if you are looking for authentic mandarin or other national culture dishes from China- you are in America, Midwest America. You won't find it here in the Midwest- head to a major city if you want that or the country itself. However, if you want your Americanized version this is the right place. Also, they don't use oyster sauce on everything like PF Chang's; which makes it good for people with a shellfish allergy (unless it is severe where he smell closes the lungs- you shouldn't be eating here). I love their food and have been going for over 10 years. I have tried the pepper chicken, the sweet and sour chicken, chicken stir fry, and the chicken rice soup. I have also had the spring rolls because my family has to stay away from shrimp. Someone in my house that is extremely allergic to shrimp and so far no issues that involved us going to the hospital. I personally like all of these. I haven't really tired everything else. Most people do take out from the restaurant. The owner is nice and the place is really ran by the family. I like that it is a quite atmosphere. The red pepper chicken is good as well. read more

Very good food, very good service. We ordered the family of four dinner which included four entrees as well as soup, egg rolls and crab rangoons. Everything was hot, fresh and delish! The portion sizes are very large and quite honestly, I believe dinner for two would have been enough for myself as well as wife and two teenage girls... Next time maybe we'll try the dinner for two or three instead. All in all, this place is a good solid choice for good Detroit style Chinese. read more

The best food? You must have the taste buds of a philistine. The only thing good is the plain fried rice. They are overpriced for what you get. The carryouts is sparse. You have to pay for soy sauce packets and plum sauce packets. They give you one fortune cookie for two meals. The wonton soup was so hot that is had to be microwaved or the soup warmer was on boil- the soup took 20 minutes to cool. The decor is so grimey and old it is kind of scary. I will say this. The staff is super nice, the egg rolls are good, and when the soup did not burn my tongue off it was decent. A little more food for the price and not being so stingy with the extras and this place could be really good. Fingers crossed! read more

Stopped by. People in lobby raving about it. Had the lunch special portion of sweet and sour chicken. Chicken was fried perfectly and crunchy with the right amount of tasty sauce :-) but only two pineapple :-( upgraded to shrimp fried rice for $1.50 more which was OK. Choice of spring roll or egg roll and hot tea pot. A friend had the almond boneless chicken she seemed to enjoy. Not the best, but very good. Would come back. read more

Hard to believe the 4-star average. We got carryout for 4, which allowed us to try a range of dishes (curry beef, Hunan shrimp, chicken broccoli, fried rice). All were flavorless, mushy vegetables, The menu refers to Hunan and Szechuan style dishes, which promise to be spicy/hot from the get go. But even the requested *hot* spiciness was bland. read more
