My go-to at a Chinese Restaurant is Sesame Chicken and it wasn't what I have at my family's go-to Chinese restaurant, but it wasn't bad, but I wouldn't purchase it again. The price was steep for what I received. I only got takeout, so I can't talk about the service or the ambience as I didn't truly experience it. But I can tell you in walking in to pick up my food. It did appear it would be the cleanest restaurant. I felt the decor was outdated from what I saw. Not sure I I would want to dine in. When it comes to Chinese food I'm a pretty picky eater. I tried this place twice for lunch and ordered Shrimp Fried Rice with an egg roll. The rice was very flavorful and well seasoned. I asked them to add green onion as well. The egg roll was really tasty, wish I ordered two! I REALLY wanted to like this place, but oh my god. We ordered out from here on New Years Eve, and i dont know if the cooks and staff just didn't care, but it was AWFUL. My wonton soup? Water, a bunch of spinach, and a dumpling. Literally, water poured over it all, not broth or any semblance of flavor or soup whatsoever, it was disgusting. The "fried" tofu in my vegetable lo mein was hardly baked let alone fried, it was mushy blocks, and "vegetable lo mein"? Hahahahaha. Green pepper and onions, that was it. Where were the veggies?! The quest for Chinese food continues. I figured that I've been approaching this all wrong and need to seek out the more hole in the wall places...even more so than I've already been doing. I found this shop on some side street. The neon sign caught my eye from the main road. Since I was tired and not thinking straight, I just shot from the hip and ordered up a chicken broccoli dinner combo and a small beef with broccoli. The combo came with an eggroll and chicken fried rice. The eggroll was pretty crappy as is every eggroll that I have sampled in the area. It was filled with bean sprouts and relatively little meat. The fried rice was ok, but it consisted of just chicken and rice. The chicken with broccoli was ok. Pretty average chicken and broccoli stir-fry. There was a good mix of vegetables although they were cooked until soggy. The beef with broccoli was mediocre as well suffering from the same problem with the vegetables. The reason I'm giving this place 3 stars is that the food is pretty cheap and the food is no worse than anything else I've found in Dearborn. This is a takeout place. Expect to wait at least 20 minutes for your food from the time you order. The owners are pretty smart. On the night I went in, they stuck a 10-12 year old girl at the register and had her handle orders. Now, most people wouldn't be able to yell and curse at a 10 year old girl (with the possible exception of myself and Lester, the only person who reads my reviews). Adequate and standard American Chinese. All the usual items are available. Not a standout by any means, but very consistent and the portions are generous. I've never had a chicken dish here that wasn't all white meat. Bonus- the person answering the phone speaks clear and fluent English. A word of caution: always ask for "no lettuce". "What? Lettuce??" you may be saying. Yeah.... They have an unusual habit of putting a thin layer of semi-shredded lettuce in the take out container before adding the food. Now, before I get into the review, I should clarify that if you're looking for real chinese food, look else where. If you're looking for americanized chinese food, this is it. I'm not a big fan of fried dishes (I like my stir fry more), but when I feel like it, I'd get the sweet and sour chicken and mmm is that stuff good. As for my usual stir fry dish, I'd get either the beef or chicken (depending on what kinda meat I feel like eating) and peapods with mushrooms and carrots. A simple yet delicious dish. I gotta ask them to teach me how to do it! Oh, I also like their wonton soup, that's gotta be my favorite. Egg drop soup's pretty good too. And the spring rolls, I usually get that. Okay I think drool's about to start dripping from my mouth, thinking about it is making me crave it! The owners are pretty nice and easy going, making my experience even better. The reviewer underneath me gave me a good laugh, cause I think I had the same server and I gotta say, she does look pretty young. During my previous visit, I was bold enough to ask her age, and she replied for me to take a guess, (and I'm definitely not the best guesser) and I said she looked around 15. She laughed and said gets that a lot, and younger sometimes. As to her age, she said it's not her first year in college, boy was I wrong. By far my favorite spot in the area. We used to live 2 mins from here. We moved three yrs ago (2016) and have tried countless places since, proximity to our home. The kids keep asking for Lim's Garden. So we drive past two other chinese restaurants for Lims. Over proportioned, ALWAYS fresh, and by far the best fried rice ever. I had a hard time picking between one and two stars on this. I ordered egg drop soup and while it is not the most disgusting egg drop soup I've ever had it is in the top three. It is very thick and goopy it is more of a gravy texture. The big red flag and white decided the one star was instead of wonton strips it came with saltine crackers I guess that should've been the big red flag. Have tried this place 3 to 4 times and just do not enjoy it. Have called in a order before to be told 20 minutes for pick-up, arrived 20 minutes later only to wait for an additional 25 minutes for the order to be ready. The only item I enjoyed here is the Almond Boneless Chicken, fried rice is bland and sort of plain. Literally, there most expensive thing on the menu is $10 and the portions are generous, which completes the value equation. The taste is consistent with other American Chinese takeout places (it's bland because that's what the American palate wants -- there's a documentary on Netflix called "Searching for General Tso" that addresses the history of Chinese food in America and is quite interesting). I like this place. If you are the kind of person who consistently orders MSG laden overlooked Americanized crap from Chinese take out joints, stop writing reviews. It's always going to be mediocre. But if you are looking for fresh veggies, a better grade of chicken or beef and a cook who knows how to stir fry really well, come here. I usually always order the vegetable subgum chow mein or the chicken subgum, no sauce...who wants that cornstarch crap anyway? But they do decent curry dishes and their spring rolls are pretty good (hint: regular egg rolls are always bad, no matter what restaurant).
