Over rated, over priced and low quality shoes. Staff follow you like you're gonna steal. Then they give attitude when you ask for help. Shoes are of the lowest quality and will fall apart in less than a year. Quit hiring crying lazy staff is my advice. read more

I was in desperate need of some new nursing shoes. I'm a big fan of Dansko's & Sanitas & knew about Red's Shoe barn. I met an US tech when my Mom was getting an US @ Exeter hospital & she had told me that they had a big selection of Dansko's so I headed up there one day from Portsmouth. Its not a bad drive depending on if you take the highway or go thru town. Well be prepared if you go there now because they are doing construction on the road right out front so it can be a little bit of a pain to get into their small parking lot & dusty due to the dirt road. The store really isn't that big but they are well staffed with plenty of employee's to help you with your shoe needs because the one's that are on the shelves come in different sizes but are kept out back. I found an employee right when I walked in & I asked her where the Dansko's & Sanita's were kept. She pointed me in the right direction. I checked out the Dansko wall briefly then went over to the clearance section & was able to try on a few that were there. No luck so I headed back over to the Dansko wall & found some help to get my different sizes out back. Her name was Nicole & she was friendly, patient & quick. After trying on a few pairs I found a winning pair. She wrote me up a slip then told me I was able to chose between a small hand sanitizer or Dansko bag for purchasing a pair of Dansko shoes. Of course I went with the bag. Portable & super cute! I give 5 STARS for the store being well staffed & service was quick. Also the large selection of sizes of the shoes I was trying on was a plus. The reason I gave 3 STARS was due to the limited selection of the Dansko's. They didn't have many printed Dansko's. They had mostly solid colors but I wanted some fun designs to chose from & this was not the place for that. They also had a small selection of nursing Danskos too. Also 3 STARS due to their tiny section of Sanita's. They had like 6 pairs of shoes to chose from. I also wasn't a fan of their really small parking lot & when I got there it was pretty full & crowded. I wasn't impressed with the construction right outside but that's something they don't have control over. Every place is always worth a trip & for one to check it out on their own. Huge shoe store, several floors with thousands of options. I find them to be rather pricey but I have to go here to get special shoes that my foot doctor recommended. All of the staff are super friendly, from the cashiers to the people working the floor, I've never had a bad experience. They have a large clearance section, but sometimes the clearance price is just as much if not more than what I'd usually pay somewhere else for the same thing. If you're looking for friendliness and a lot of options, this is your place, if you're looking for super affordable, this isn't your place. read more

I had the pleasure of working with Maddie in the women's sneaker section, I didn't see the color that I had wanted so she ordered me some Hokas in a color that they do not carry, she went above and beyond to help me. They are my favorite sneakers of all time I've ever had. Thank you so much Maddie! At pick up I also was interested in Birkenstocks and Jodi helped find some that were hiding out back for me and was so sweet. She helped me with multiple styles. Amazing service once again! My husbands well worn/loved sneakers fell apart. We'd ordered a few pairs online - they didn't fit right. He's hard to fit. So we waited for Reds to open up. So during this stressful time, we waited 5 days after reopening. Andrew in the men's department was extremely helpful. He was so knowledgeable about the brands, how they ran, the different footbeds and what would work best. We ended up buying two different pairs! I usually try to support local businesses. Red's has great selection, pleasant knowledgeable help, and very fair prices. I just re-ordered my favorite Tiva's. (3rd pair over 5 years) The young woman answering the call searched my size and came back with the colors available. She was professional and pleasant and transferred me to another pleasant and helpful man at the front desk to complete my transaction. I can drive there tomorrow and they will bring out the shoes for curbside service. Great service during a pandemic and the shoes were ten dollars less than Zappos. Sure, the store is an old style building and the parking lot a bit weird, but it's local business at its best! read more

Yes, fair Bostonians.....this New Hampshire-ite has frequented the Barn of Shoe many a time. Don't knock it for its seemingly boondock-ish name...this place has great variety and price! A reasonable selection of comfortable work shoes (Dansko and Ariat being my favorite), hiking shoes (Merrill and Keen), boots (North Face, Ugg, etc), and loads athletic shoe brands. If you're looking for footwear on the cheap, the entire middle of the first floor is laid out with rows of discounted shoes (like the graveyard of footwear); I've found some great deals - but you have to search EVERY box for what you want. The place is generally staffed by under-paid (and often un-enthused) high schoolers....but they're helpful enough (just get me the box with the right size and shoe style....that is aaaaaaaaall I require). Plenty of parking and great staff will lead you to making the perfect shoe purchase - I'm pretty sure the same woman has been behind the counter EVERY time I have come here to buy shoes (...over the last ten years). I used to drive from my New Hampshire home, I now drive from Boston, and I'll probably keep driving from wherever I'll be in the years to come - a great shoe destination! read more

Red's Shoe Barn in Dover is my favorite shoe store. This review is for the Men's department. It is full-service, you will be offered help and advice if you need it, but can also browse through what is on display. Unlike big box stores, you are saved the frustration of digging through disorganized stacks of shoes to try to figure out if they have your size. An employee can quickly find if they have it in your size and bring it out to you to try on. The selection is excellent; I have found the only thing they don't carry much of here is fashion sneakers or very low end shoes. I have noticed however, that they also carry shoes from smaller companies, so I have found some really interesting stuff. They have a great selection of shoelaces, socks, and other shoe store stuff. Since they tend to carry higher quality shoes, the prices are not low. This is not a discount store, but they do always have some discounted shoes and occasional sales. There is no better place to buy safety shoes and work boots. read more

Ended up digging through the clearance bin and despite my aforementioned misgivings got lucky and found a decent pair cheaper than what I was aiming for. The young staff is friendly and they are one of a few places that carry a variety of widths which really helps those of us who have hard to fit feet. I'm not sure who the bulk of shoemakers are targeting but they're missing large numbers of us who would like stylish shoes regardless of how wide our feet are, so I appreciate Red's making these available. I brought them here and plead my case to Jeremiah and he was very understanding. He and I work something out and I left very satisfied. Bought a lair of chips good ole american made 4 months later the whole sole was coming undone on both boots. Needless to say reds and there fantastic manger who I cant remember his name but an employee shain took care of me. Big shoe store in a not so big city. Had to get a fast pair of waterproof shoes quickly when not so close to home. Got a pair of water resistant Crocs for a decent price. As stated in earlier reviews, help is not enthusiastic, but is passable. It's not on the main drag, so a GPS or a look at the map first helps. read more

Had both an excellent and terrible experience today. Two young women sold me a pair of New Balance suited for Plantar's Factitious. Very helpful, kind and pleasant. That was excellent. The terrible part was a male who I asked questions to, very harsh and unwelcoming. Then I was standing in doorway assisting w/looking for Oofoos, he yelled at me to get out I didn't belong there. I used to work there when "Red" was alive, Dave, Harry and Nancy were managers. They would never have put up w/someone like that. I may return my NB's and that will be the last time I shop there.
