Everything here is quite wonderful, so no matter what you come for, you will love it. There's a working farm here, and food served up using farm fresh ingredients. A cooler filled with soups, prepared foods and drinks is great to-go, but the pizza and ice cream here are the real gems. Stopped this year while on vacation. We had visited a few years back. Not sure what happened since then, but it was really weird. The owner meets u at the door and everything has to be brought out to you. You are not allowed to go in building for food or to shop. Food is purchased online for pickup. Nothing on their website states this. We won't be back. read more

Wow. I can't say enough good things about what Laura and Kara are doing at Farmstead Creamery. Great grounds - which are great for kids too with the Animal Walk (chickens, pigs, etc). The food is amazing... we've had breakfast, lunch, dinner (including the Farm to Table dinners), and pizza night. We just left a pizza night and Spoken Word event. Again. Wow. From the heritage animals, to the ancient grains, to the aquaponics ecosystem they've built. Everything is connected to everything else on the farm. And then connected to the community through the creamery. And the gelato. Sheeps. Milk. Gelato. So so good. This really is a special place made more special by Laura and Kara's family and the deep connection they have to this place and the community. If you're anywhere near the Hayward/Cable area stop in. So confused by this place. It took three tries to get morning baked goods and a pie. The double chocolate muffins were so overcooked they were inedible, the coffee cake had very little crumb topping making it mostly plain cake, and the pie crust was not a sweet crust but more like a pizza crust. The filling was delicious which is why I gave it two stars. It was all ridiculously expensive and then they asked if we wanted to donate more money to their "cause". Not worth the trouble or money. read more

We had a very enjoyable Farm to Table dinner. I loved hearing the path our food took to get to the table. If you are in the area it's worth a stop. Friday night dinners are a prix fixe menu & reservations are recommended. I wish we had had more time to stop by for their pizza. read more

What a treasure! We were up in Hayward and were looking for a fun place to have lunch. Once we read about this place, we knew this was it. It is off the beaten path but worth the trip. We love the focus on farm fresh foods. Our soup, salad and eggplant parmesan were excellent. The French press coffee was among the best we have had. The gelato was excellent too. The atmosphere is cozy. We enjoyed a wonderful private lunch in the area upstairs. The seating downstairs or outside looked inviting as well. We headed home with some wonderful cheeses and whole bean coffee as well. The prices are typical for better quality ingredients and well worth it. We don't usually have reason to be in the area but will be back! read more

What a wonderful place. My girlfriend and I did a 50mi round trip bike tour to the Farmstead for lunch last August. We had been enjoying a CSA from them all summer and wanted to see the farm in person. We arrive tired and hungry and were treated to a delicious meal. Everything is so fresh and made with ingredients that are quality and you can pronounce them. They had a few different main course dishes to pick from and the menu is always changing. Their bakes goods are top notch! Old world breads and cinnamon rolls, too. All in all you can't get much better. Highly recommend that everyone visits. read more

This place is amazing. A beautiful farm with amazing food. The pizza is cooked outside in a brick oven and is very tasty. There is. A lot of variety and the pizza is gluten free (which normally affects taste, but not here). They make their own gelato on site and it is delicious. On summer Saturday nights, you can eat outside and listen to the live local music or wander around to see the farm animals or humming birds. It is basically paradise. read more

We loved the food, the setting and the service. While it is way off the beaten path, it is worth the drive to get fresh and delicious "farm to fork" food. You can also purchase locally raised meat, produce and dairy products to take home. Very notable is the sheep milk gelato made on premise. We had the Lemmon Curd Gelato. Excellent! read more

Absolutely adorable, delicious, and amazing! We stopped in for breakfast and enjoyed every thing about the farm. Breakfast was perfectly prepared. Omelet, sweet roll, and a side of potatoes was $13. Great price for the quality! My son played in the sandbox while we waited for our food. We stocked up on a few retail items and will definitely be back to try out the pizza and gelato! read more

The freshest meal I've ever eaten - and the group of 8 I was with would all agree! We made a dinner reservation (as it's recommended) a few weeks in advance. For those that don't like to make reservations - they said they sometimes have extra openings, so it's worth a call! The salad was incredibly fresh and everything had been picked that morning. The tilapia and rice and broccoli were to die for (and I don't even like fish!!) - and the entire table was practically licking their dessert bowls clean. The family who owns and runs the farm are incredibly knowledgeable and support the local community in so many ways. You have to go and you have to eat the gelato! read more

This place is a hidden treasure up north! It's absolutely adorable - from the cutely decorated farmhouse to the woodfire grill and animals outside. The breakfast was superb, and I bought some really nice cheese while I was there. We liked it so much we decided to come back for the pizza dinner the same night! The pizza was great, although the price for the pizza was steep ($20 for a personal pizza), but you could tell the ingredients were top-notch. They had live music and you could purchase bottles of wine for your meal. I hope to try their Friday dinners the next time I am up there. Highly recommend! read more

We found this wonderful place last summer. It is located close to Moose Lake. It is a family run farm and restaurant. The food is fresh, delicious and changes with the seasons. The family members who run the Farmstead are very kind and welcoming. Their breads, bakery items, homemade gelato, fresh eggs and veggies for sale are great. They also sell lamb, chicken, turkeys, etc. that are raised on their farm or in the area. A very special place in the northwoods! read more

We ventured out to The Creamery for lunch on a whim one Winter Friday afternoon. The menu is limited, offering 7-9 lunch choices. I had cream of tomato soup, salad, and pesto grilled cheese. The food was fresh, quality ingredients, and tasty. My husband is a hearty eater and ordered the pizza believing this would be a larger portion since it was around $10. He was disappointed the pizza was approximately 7 " across and thin crust, definitely not sufficient for him. The portions were sufficient for me to be comfortably full, but there was no chance of leftovers. We both had water to drink with our meals and our total was a bit over $23. I highly recommend their baked goods available at the counter. They were delicious. The ladies working at the Creamery were friendly and knowledgeable. This is an unexpected gem in the North Woods. My spouse and I had read the previous excellent ratings and made the decision to visit. Best decision we made. We were so tired with the typical good (or on occasion) bad fried bar food. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants in and aroung Hayward are very big on 'bar food'. Farmstead was a breath of fresh air. The menu is not extensive but very selective. We loved the soup and wished we ordered more, the lasagna was exceptional, the pork pie was just plain fun to eat, and the salad seemed like it was just picked for us. Did I mention they make their own gelato? The Farmstead is quaint, welcoming and friendly. We arrived somewhat late and had the opportunity to make friends with Kara, one of the owners. She found time to chat with us about some of the highlights of running the farm and she has a great sense of humor. If you are into good food - you must visit the Farmstead. The homemade black currant jam is outstanding! If you love coffee, stick with the milk or tea. But if that is all thay I can critize then it is a great place to revisit. We even picked up some greeting cards created by local artists. We still need to go back for the quiche. read more
