I've been holding onto this review for over a year now as I didn't want to fault a shop for any lack of knowledge on my end but ultimately decided this needs to go up. I bought my first ever AR from Redstar for $1,450 after the first stimulus round. I was up front about not knowing at what I was looking at but wanted something reliable for home def in 5.56. What I walked out with, and didn't realize until much later, was a sub $500 build. $30 Amazon airsoft "awotac" sights, $45 no-name 12" quad rail, $114 CrossArmory quick pins, $67 CrossArmory safemag, a no-name $12 ergo pistol grip, and AR Stoner everything else, built on a Valor Industries lower. 1 Hex mag, a box of 20 5.56 rounds and shipping box to carry it all out with. At the range; I had pins walk out, double feeds the RSO had trouble clearing with the QuickPins, the plastic front sight broke, a bolt lug chipped off, and constant cycling issues. Since then, everything but the lower has been replaced with quality parts from reputable brands. SRC BCG, Eotech EXPS, Magpul Pro BUIS, Aero M4E5 upper and buffer tube, H2 buffer, Radian safety and charging handle, B5 stock, P&W 13.7" barrel with a mid length gas, changed to a Hogue mag lock that lets me clear malfunctions safely. The ONLY thing I've kept was the Valor Industries lower, and am extremely happy with. For a 5* shop, I feel I got the bait and switch treatment at a stimulus price, didn't get anywhere near the value I paid for, and was given a potentially dangerous malfunction drilling rifle to learn from - not with. It cycles smooth and reliably now, has been used to teach several friends how to shoot and build, has changed former anti-2A family members minds, and given us the peace of mind at home that it's there and ready to go if either my wife or I ever need it. Money wasn't an issue, and Redstar could've been to thank for all those positives but just left a sour taste instead. If you know exactly what you're looking for and don't need the advice, feel free walking in. If you're a first timer looking to be steered the right way, look elsewhere read more

Poor customer service... walked in asked for shells for an old 410 that's been in the family a while passed down used for house protection and they asked if I had a permit I told them no explained myself and the guy was like "let me show you the door" first of all that's not how you treat people automatically assuming the worse, I wonder why... I'm a Navy Veteran just looking for some home protection and the way this guy treated me was like I was trying to commit a crime... at the very least rude. Came to Red Star after researching different gun shops and Red Star Armory was one of the few, if only one, that had consistently amazing positive reviews on Yelp and Google. The reviews were legit accurate- staff were very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. There was no pressure to buy, they answered any and all questions, the atmosphere was very lighthearted and fun with the staff making jokes. There was never any judgement from them about my lack of knowledge, they were amazing! Other gun shops I've been to had that air of superiority and condescending tone, but not at Red Star- I was at ease and actually enjoyed being there. Recently I had an issue with my rear takedown pin sticking and Kevin took the time to help troubleshoot it. Ultimately, it had to cut and replaced because the retention was bent. Kevin went above and beyond to ensure that the job was done properly, for a reasonable smith price. The best part about this shop is they have stuff for the whole family(paintball & airsoft). Red Star Armory is absolutely AMAZING! I went in last week looking for a Glock 19 and they were out of stock, just like everywhere else. I was bummed and about to leave when Trent asked if I wanted to take a gamble because they were doing a raffle for a brand new Custom Glock 19 that had all the bells and whistles. I offered to buy it, but was told that that was one of a kind and exclusively for their raffle clients so I hesitantly went ahead and paid the $45 for the raffle. I was soooooooo ecstatic when I received a call today telling me that I had won the raffle! I was in shock because I thought pretty much all raffles were some kind of scam, but these guys are the real deal and really care about the happiness of their customers. You won't find better customer service and they are one of the ONLY stores that are getting constant shipments of Glocks in. If you need a firearm or ammo and don't want to stand in line for 4+ hours at a Turner's Outdoorsman just to find out that they didn't even have what you wanted or Ammo Brothers where they will have you wait all day and just close their doors for the day on all their customers that had been waiting outside for 4+ hours, then this is THE PLACE TO GO! For the coolest guys ever that will answer any questions that you may have, head down to Red Star Armory! Being a new gun owner, this made all the difference in the world.
