Let's landscape the kids' townhouse she said, it will be FUN she said, he said....ookkay I guess…read moreso! We come from a lush suburb, far away to visit our daughter and her family. We are avid gardeners and are blessed to have a wide selection back home. Pickings here seemed slim. We asked around for a nursery to meet our needs and Gethsemane was the one nursery that my daughter's friends recommended. WOW - especially considering that it's a "city" garden center, AND it's the fall which is hardly high landscaping season. You had an extremely wide selection that was conveniently arranged to make the best use of our time. Prices to me are fair considering the quality of the plants and service. We visited on Friday to do recognizance and make a preliminary stack of possibles as we're only in town for a few days. We had spent two days demolishing the mangled sad mess left by the previous owners and were ready to get to work. On Saturday morning we took our daughter to review our choices, and she threw us a few curve balls, but the staff was prepared. We worked with Jennifer and Richie in trees and shrubs who allowed us to quickly eliminate things that would not work in their very shaded yard. Miriam in perennials was particularly helpful in that my daughter has some very specific likes and dislikes (Those ALL look like WEEDS to me says she!!) Miriam was patient and kind in helping sort through all of the available Hostas to color coordinate several varieties. Advice on mulch and watering were administered at check out and our precious green matter was delivered at the agreed upon time a few hours later. We dug, we sorted rock, we cut old roots that we only found when we dug and after about 6 hours it was done and we couldn't be more pleased. You were all very helpful and provided exactly the service in the compressed timeframe that was required. The Yews, Hostas, Azaleas and Lavendar all appear to be very healthy and we can't wait to watch them grow. Thank you for your service today.

BEWARE!! I removed a previous 1-star review for this company…read moreafter numerous requests via phone calls and texts from the owner (Carmelo) imploring me to remove the review, as it would negatively impact his business. Camelo stated that "family matters" prevented him from following through and providing the quote and services that were promised during our first phone conversations. As Carmelo appeared sincere in his apology and promise to deliver services as promised, I removed the initial 1-star review because it is not our goal to hurt a business when it is not warranted. After speaking further with Carmelo, my husband and I agreed to the terms of the scope of services after Carmelo changed the contract to reflect 50% payment at the time of service and balance due after completion of the work. It should be noted that in the inital contract Camelo was asking for an unheard of 90% deposit before scheduling a date to start service and the balance due upon completion! We agreed that Carmelo would come out to our home on today's date (06 Apr 24) at 10:00 AM to survey the work area, sign contract and receive deposit. It is now 12:00 PM and we have not heard from Carmelo. I rearranged my own work schedule to accommodate this appointment and Camelo did not respect my time and once again failed to follow through on the agreed date and time of our appointment. This company appears to be a scam of some sort, particularly given the unreasonable deposit that they are requesting before work is even scheduled (90%) and the blatant failure to follow-up with any appointments that Carmelo and his company makes with potential clients. I will not remove this review under any circumstances or requests made by Carmelo because it speaks the truth and I WARN any potential clients to expect nothing but fake promises. You will likely regret the time that you wasted considering Camelo's sales pitch. First time shame of you, second time, shame on me...

Okay, if you want professional, personal, creative gardening and landscaping, it doesn't get any…read morebetter than Gardens That Grow! I phoned Mary G and she promptly scheduled time to see my garden space, listen to what I wanted to do and how much I wanted to spend. I was under some pressure to get the work done by a deadline and Mary accommodated me by getting the estimate done in a day! It was structured in components of design, plants and labor so I could easily understand it and see where I was spending my money. My yard gets almost no sun and I can't grow flowers, so it had to be a green garden. I had the typical hostas, astilbes, helibores, and columbines before but Mary knew so many more interesting plants and had some very good ideas about how to design my space so it had variations in color and height and texture. She mixed shrubs and ground cover with exotics and bog plants, giving me a really exciting garden! I never knew that my boring back yard could have transformed like this! The best part was that she and her crew were so terrific! They worked quickly and efficiently and cleaned everything up beautifully before they left. Well, no I lied. The best part was how amazing Mary is! She knows all the Latin names of everything, how best to plant, how to prune and care for your garden, and is just a Sweetheart, too!

I fully expected that I would be writing a glowing review for Gardens that Grow. In mid March of…read morethis year, I contacted them by email, detailing the work that I was interested in (annual plantings, lawn care). Within a day Mary got back to me to set up a time to come by and talk. While she canceled the first appointment and was late to the second (which I thought nothing of at the time), we had a delightful discussion when she came by. We discussed significantly expanding the scope of work -- in phases -- to include setting up irrigation for veggie plants, switching out the soil in the veggie planters, and some great longer range projects that would involve more intricate landscaping. At the end of the visit, she told me she would send a proposal. The problem is she didn't. I would email her from time to time, and she would assure me she was working on it. I called her, I texted her, and each time she would assure me she was on it. I even sent her an email saying that it would be helpful to know if she wasn't interested in the project so that I could move on. I got a response to that email from her business manager, who assured me they would take care of it. Over a month passed....then about 2. I got the proposal and accepted it immediately and asked them to get started. They gave me dates, which came and went. There's no question that some of it was weather-related, but I don't believe that all of it was. Eventually, I lost faith. I had someone else come out and give me an estimate, and based on their word that they would get the work done, I sent a short email to GTG. No real apology, though they said they understood. I do believe that under different circumstances, it would have been possible for them to have done a great job. But the fact is that just didn't happen. The reason I'm writing this review is not to say you shouldn't use them. I hope it goes better for you than it did for me. But I do believe they did a very poor job of not delivering for two months, during which time I really didn't need to be begging a landscaper to come to my house so I could pay them to do what they said they would do.
