I've been a Red Wing Customer for over fifteen years and recently visited the Clairmont Mesa Store. Not sure who is the manager there but a tall younger guy helped me. I believe his name is Paulo. He was not very helpful. When he Greeted me he was not too inviting or friendly. I requested a boot in my size 14 and I know there are not many options but he didn't recommend anything to me. He just said that Red Wing didn't have my boot there. He only stood there and didn't ask me much at all so I left the store after browsing. I went here a couple months ago because I wanted to buy Red Wing boots but wasn't sure of my exact size. I also figured I could just try them out and see how much I'd really like them. My boyfriend loves his Red Wings and encouraged me to buy some since my own ankle boots were falling apart. The moment I walked in I was greeted immediately and asked what type of boots I was looking for. Being the basic b that I am, I told them the Iron Rangers. My feet were measured twice. First time they made me stand on some type of computerized scale that not only measures your feet but also analyzes your foot pressure. Second time they use a traditional foot measurer. It turns out that my left foot is slightly bigger than my right foot, although I use more pressure on my right foot. Makes sense given that I'm right-handed. Anywho, I ended up buying a pair of Iron Rangers that were slightly smaller than what I predicted my size was and they fit like a glove! Granted, they do have a break in period but it takes about 1-2 weeks before they start feeling really comfortable. Best of all, I've received compliments on these boots, both from friends and random strangers! I was supposed to come in after 2 weeks to make sure that the shoes fit properly, but I never got around to it. I was gonna come back eventually but alas, coronavirus struck and now we are all stuck at home. Definitely recommend this store and buying a pair of Red Wings. When they open, I recommend getting sized so you get the perfect fit. read more

I finally saved up enough for a pair of Iron ranger so I was excited to get my boot properly sized for the first time. When I visited the store and I was greeted by Jamie. Maybe it has been a long day for her but she seemed very out of it. When I asked that I am interested in the iron ranger, she rushed to ask me, "Yeah, which color? there are two colors for rough and tough." I was caught off guard by the aggressive tone but I brushed it off. She measured my boot size by using the special measuring platform and went on to get a pair for me to try. I started asking a few questions about the fitting, but she always answered with a condescending tone. Again, I brushed it off because I just wanted to get my boots and start breaking them in. My normal boot size has been 9 so I was worried 9.5 would be too big. However, she reassured me that 9.5 will be perfectly fine. Nope. I have been wearing my iron range for the past week and the heel slip is only getting worse. I just found out these boots are supposed to be worn with wool socks, which she never mentioned a bit. Any shoe store should never sell $319+ boots with crappy customer service and the lack of knowledge in their products. I am going back to the store to remeasure my size and exchange my boots. If you are also considering getting a pair of sweet Red Wing boots: 1. Avoid Jamie by all means 2. Go somewhere else that would treat you like an actual customer Update: The exchange process was easy but it came with a complimentary roasting. Let's talk about the (2) employees working this weekend. They were both on the heavy side the guy had dark brown hair, balding head & the lady had partially dyed hair with glasses. I came here to figure out the proper shoe size for Redwing shoes since they are notorious for being .5-1. Size larger. Unfortunately I couldn't even get to experiencing the shoes because of Humpty Dumpty 1 & 2. The lady from the get go started off real condescending when I said I came to figure out what shoe last fits me the best so I can narrow down what shoe styles would be most comfortable for me. She rudely said that I need to be able to tell her first what shoe I like. I tell her "it's my first time checking out redwing shoes so I don't know yet but i'd like to at least know my feet size for redwing shoes (which she was somewhat adamant about not letting me get on the sizing platform while I watch 2 other customers go through and get their sizes). The other male employee eventually comes around asking if I need help and I say yeah & point to the platform and asked to be sized. Rather than prep me for that he tells me to hang on as he goes to the back room grabs something for a customer then goes back a second time & comes back out helping that customer and not checking on me not saying a single word to me. One of the times he went back when the other lady was back there & presumably starts talking about me and both come back out simultaneously trying not to look suspicious about. That's just truly unprofessional... This was pretty much a shopping nightmare when admittedly I had very high expectations reading about their shoes. These people should not even be working here with the lack of attention and communication to all their customers. It's appalling that I have to be arguing with a rude & complacent employee & in the end to be left empty handed with lots of resentment left to be sitting here writing this so people know the good the bad the UGLY of their customer service which seems to be the common complaint including their neglect of after-purchase support It's sad that I won't be buying their shoes even over the internet because they wouldn't even help me get my size like they did with the other customers & that's the ridiculous part, I wasn't asking for anything out of the ordinary yet, they denied that, ignored me & left me standing indefinitely. read more

Red Wing boots are excellent footwear for the working person, you always get your money's worth out of them as they last and last. I have been wearing Red Wing boots for the majority of my career and I can say they are definitely the most durable and comfortable steel toe boots I've come across. The previous boots I had bought before them use to only last several months where I usually get a little more than one and half years out of my Red Wing ones. I work on my feet all day long and my boots get a lot of use in my line of work, so I don't wanna be buying new boots all the time. Now I'll be honest, one of the biggest reasons why I always got them was my company subsidized the cost of them for me but I'm glad they used this brand and not something super cheap. Now I'm at a different company and no longer get the deal with them but I still buy my boots herfe. The service here is always quick and while they never seem to ever have my size, they get them ordered pretty quickly. Can't ask for more really. read more

I've owned a few Red Wing boots in my past and they have always lasted a LONG time, and put up with a LOT of abuse. It's been a while and I was ready for my next pair. This location is somewhat smaller and carries a smaller inventory but are happy to help finding, and ordering whatever you're looking for. Maybe it's been a long time since I have bought decent shoes, but their measuring machine is awesome and VERY precise. I ordered up some work boots and in a couple weeks had my new kicks. Red Wings are knows for their durable product, so the break-in time takes some patience, but once they conform to the contours of your feet, you'll have trouble finding a better fitting shoe. They have some more stylish, less industrial options for footwear as well, but you gotta really want those shoes if they're going to cost you around $250 AND you're still going to have to break them in. If they could offer some of those styles with a safety toe, I would be all over them. What does all this mean? They have a great product that I fear is off a lot of people's radar simply because the name "Red Wing" is more synonymous with work boots. If you are looking for a GREAT pair of shoes, like quality leather, and have a little extra dough, stop by here and see what these guys are offering. read more

I purchased a pair of boots here on the 1st of February. I didn't notice a slight defect in the toe cap seam on the right boot until I took them out of the box on Saturday. It was after the store closed so I couldn't contact them. I returned to the store on Monday the 5th and was badgered by who I assume is the manager that it is nothing to worry about and if it does tear they will repair for free. If I really want he would order a new pair but it might have the same problem because they're handmade and no way they can be perfect. He was very condensing I felt I had to keep them. The response from the factory today wasn't much better. I emailed them with no response so I called and was told to email. I would think a pair of $325 boots would be backed with better quality control at the factory and better customer service. I would avoid this store and this brand. Update: after more communications with the store. The shoes were exchanged for a different pair same style. The lesson, inspect the shoe better before leaving the store. read more

I brought in my 6 year old work boots because one of the heels fell apart. First they said $100 to re-sole my boots. I thought that was a bit steep since the boots cost $260 new, well that was 6 years ago, now they are $335. I love these boots because they are so comfortable, so I paid the re-sole costs and was told that it would take a month. Got a call 2.5 weeks later that my boots were back and ready for pick up. I love places that under promise and over deliver. Today it seems that places do the opposite and then just make excuses why they didn't do things on time. As for my boots they look brand new, replaced the laces, oiled, re-soled and new insoles all for the $100. Definitely worth the cost to have boots that are comfortable and waterproof. They also shared with me to bring them in once a month to get them oiled for free. Great customer service! read more

Right where to sole is stitched together their is a SMALL CRACK IN ALL THE BOOTS, even the ones on the shelves, it was here that my shovel cut through and ruined my boot... This was 9 months in, they have had a good run, but they are still under warranty... Not so, I'm told that what happened I did myself and would I be interested In a new pair... WTF! I came here with my husband on a Saturday. First impression when i walked in the door: Boring shoes store, i am a girl so i was out of my element. Steel toe boots, work boots, heavy sneakers and nothing i would be caught dead in. However, we were greeted the minute we stepped in. The customer service here is excellent, they listened to my husband and even offered some type of shoe back recycle program for union workers. Service was FANTASTIC. Very friendly help - they used the shoe measuring software to see where the pressure is in my feet, and width, length, etc. Went out of their way to lace and re-lace and re-re-lace each boot until they'd configured them for the perfect fit around my skinny ankles and wide forefeet. Offered tons of useful tips about the free conditioning service, free shoelace replacement, etc. What a wonderful perk! Plus, they gave me $20 off without even asking, as there was a September special. As far as I'm concerned, these boots were a steal. Just wanted to say that I had an amazing experience at the store today. I received a pair of heritage chukkas for an anniversary gift and I went in to see if the store could make sure I got the correct size. My pair came direct from Redwing and not from the store. Chris got me into them and sized me up on their machines. He then got me in the correct size (1/2 size bigger) and then offered to send them back and get the correct ones in the color I needed. Saved me a ton of time getting return labels printed and then shipping back my pair etc. Went way above and beyond for me when they didnt have to. I bought approximately five pair of boots from this place and after a few years some of the best boots I paid a lot of money for, the soles are virtually peeling right off or cracking all the way across the soles ! If these were of real quality that should have never happened! It turns out that not all the boots are made in the USA but are made in China but both failed! Red Wing wanted to charge me one hundred dollars to resole each shoe! I was able to get two shoes repaired and resoled for eighty dollars at Joe's Shoe Repair 2040 Fern Street San Diego, CA 9210. These boats are not the quality you may think and before buying you may want to ask if the boots soles can be replaced or expect to throw them away. Super friendly staff with an incredibly helpful and funny manager. After getting a pair of Red Wings that didn't fit properly a couple years ago, I wanted to make sure that my next pair fit perfectly! They have a super cool computer that measures your feet and tells you exactly what size you need. They lace up the boots and help you try them on, and know everything about how they should fit and how to take care of them. They were happy to ship a pair from another store for me.
