We also enjoyed scrumptious chicken tenders. The service was outstanding our waitress and bartenders were all very nice.. We will definitely return!!! read more

Is there a crapper? IDK and didn't see one when I went to use the men's room. Luckily, I only needed to do number 1 so I didn't have to make an awkward scene. I'm assuming there's an actual commode somewhere, though. I hope... Anyway, I went here for the BBQ place inside and had a good experience. The place seemed to be filled with locals who seemed to know each other, including the bartending staff. That didn't stop me from blending in. I ordered a Miller Lite bottle and it was one of the cheapest beers I had in a while. The BBQ was decent too and the portions were big. It was a nice stop for a beer and some food. Parking is limited as it's in a neighborhood, so be mindful of that. read more

I've never been here but wanted to check it out because Dairyland recently moved into the kitchen space. The bar area was fun - tons of Christmas decorations, bar stools, and tables. It seemed pretty clean. There was only one bartender and she was doing her best. We didn't have to wait too long for our order to be taken. Once it was, we received it SO fast. I've been here several times and I feel it is hit or miss. Mostly a miss for me, although my friends love it. Maybe it is because I'm not a huge fan of BBQ food or play pool or want to go out on a Thursday night (I know, I sound like a real dud, don't I? haha) My last two visits have been ho-hum. The bartender(s) liked to engage in lengthy conversations with friends (sitting at the bar), despite having multiple patrons wanting to be served and put in food orders. Queuing, which commonly occurs in British pubs, would be beneficial in such situation so customers aren't fighting to be noticed when the side conversations hit a lull. The restaurant portion of Redbar is actually called "The Saucy Swine." The bbq chicken bites aren't anything mind-blowing, but the cornbread and the elote-style brussel sprouts are amazing.... definitely recommend. My friend had a BLT and it looked incredible! Apparently the pulled pork is fantastic and was the choice for the pork-connoisseurs in my group. I think my issue is that it seems this establishment has an identity crisis. Is it a BBQ joint? Is it a sports bar? Is it a dive bar? Is it the hangout for the "cool" Gen Z/younger millennial Bayviewers? There is a tiki lounge that is open sometimes on the weekend on the 2nd floor - which is interesting yet confusing. I don't know, I just don't get the vibe. Maybe I'm old now *shrug* read more

Service, food, and atmosphere were great! This is the second time we've been to Red Bar. The first was for the wake of our cat almost a year ago. It was a lovely place to sit, eat, drink, and reminisce with family. On a weekday, it was busy, but not so busy we couldn't have a conversation. We just returned for the second time with a few friends over the holidays. It was a Friday evening and was pretty busy and buzzing near the bar. We hung out in the back by the pool tables and played a few games of pool and a game of Jenga . We had the area to ourselves. The bartender was juggling a large group of people ordering drinks and food and did a great job of getting to everyone. The wait was never too long. We ordered a few different types of fish fry, cocktails, and beer. All were good. The place was clean and everything was functioning. They had a large stack of board games to play, which was awesome. The pool table was in decent condition, but the pool cues were in rough shape and needed to be replaced. That, and the $1.50 price for a game of pool were the only downsides to the evening. The food at Redbar is still fabulous, and the fish fry is one of the best in Milwaukee. However, on this Friday night in the middle of September ageism reared its ugly head, and I was hurt. Yes, I am an old, white man who might be construed as pretentious. I wear dark lenses and wear fedoras, but I'm not "pretending" to be anything I'm not. I have looked different since I was a kid, and enjoy standing out in a.crowd. The bartenders were decidedly cold to me, wouldn't engage, and I had to yell out to get service. That has never happened before at Redbar, but these were different bartenders. They spent much time conversing with younger guys at the bar. I understand. They're more attractive, and the people behind the bar can relate to them more. However, ignoring customers because of their age and gender is unfair. Ageism is a festering disease in the United States. No one cares because old people should be in nursing homes anyway according to most Americans under the age of fifty. As an old, white man, I feel this prejudice every day. I don't deserve it. read more

We visited RedBar with Onmilwaukee's Tavern Tour. We hadn't previously been there but had a great time learning about the bars story from the owner and then also getting a little lesson on the history of pull tabs. (Have you ever wondered how they were legal. Moving here from IL I have definitely wondered about. And now I know!) The experience included a couple complimentary drinks and pizza brought in from Transfer pizza. But the Saucy Swine menu, served at RedBar (there's no table service so you need to go to the bar to order) looked too good not to try. So we sampled the cheese dip starter and will definitely be back to try many more menu items. The bar has a great vibe (be sure to check out ALL the bobbleheads) and staff was super friendly. Looking forward to going back. A friend who has been there says they are a great place to watch a Packers game. read more

My first time here and I would definitely return! Came with friends for a birthday celebration. Enjoyed the upper level tiki bar - opens at 6pm. Ordered a variety of BBQ and we were all happy! Stopped in to try the BBQ here and that menu is good, worth another visit. Great craft beer menu here, but ask for the menu to see what they also have in cans. There's a free shuttle to Brewers games, which is a big plus from this side of town. There's a cash only Tiki bar upstairs on Friday and Saturdays which I've not checked out. Redbar is a normal neighborhood corner bar catering to its locals but worth a visit for the bbq and sides. read more

The wife and I have been to this place several times for dinner and the food has always been consistently great. Big portions, great sauces. I love their homemade pickles. The bar is your average south side corner bar with a couple TVs and I think there might be a pool table in the back. I'm not sure. There's some tables for seating but it's not a huge place. We usually eat at the bar, which has never been a problem until our last visit. We were there early on a weeknight and there was plenty of room. I ordered a beer and my wife ordered an ice water. We were then told by the bartender that since we were eating at the bar, my wife HAD to order a drink. So she ordered a soda. The bar and restaurant are separate entities, which I understand, but they both go on the same check. So to the average person off the street, they're one place. This kind of rubbed us the wrong way as there was no sign or mention of this policy in the menu and we've never experienced this before. I mean, if we sat at a table, the bartender would have to bring us our food and water anyway as they didn't look like they had any other waitstaff. Or, if we had just came in for drinks and no food, would she be allowed to sit at the bar with just a water? If my wife's cousin hadn't been with us, we probably would've just left without ordering anything. I left the cost of the soda off my tip and left. Unfortunately, we won't be back. Hopefully Saucy Swine finds a better location of their own. read more

The back dining area smells like a head shop. Loved the coleslaw, creamy with a Cajun kick, husband hated it. He wanted regular creamy coleslaw. You get one tiny pat of butter when two were needed to butter the bread. Everything is extra salty, even the Bloody Mary mix. I came here because a friend was having a baby shower. It is in a weird location - it's tucked away behind some houses. Took me a second to find it. I don't believe there is a parking lot so I parked on the street The downstairs is a bar. There is a small space upstairs where you can have events. The staff were nice. One of the employees carried my present in for me (because it was big and heavy). Tried the BBQ at Redbar yesterday. It was phenomenal. The brisket melted in my mouth and I probably would have eaten the whole platter without any sauces but the exotic names and flavors piqued my interest so I tried them. Another home run. Having this place right up the street from my house is going to be dangerous! Friendly staff, board games for the kids and a nice back room away from the bar. I came here for a baby shower on Saturday. I was a little surprised that the location really was a bar, but it worked really well. There is a party room upstairs. It wasn't very large, but it was nice to have a space all to ourselves. They allowed the party to bring in food and decorations, and people bought drinks at the bar. The staff is super nice here! Even better than the last time I was here. The kitchen has since opened and although we didn't eat here this time, we'll definitely give the food a shot next time as it looked so yummy. One third of the menu is dedicated to tater tots! You had me at tot!!! Lots of room in the place and very nicely decorated. A little stage for live music in the front. In the back room there are dart boards, pool tables, and even board games. The men grumbled a little about the men's bathroom. They say there are only 2 urinals in it and if you need a stall, there's a unisex bathroom in the back past the pool tables. Wasn't that crowded when we were there so the one woman's toilet wasn't an issue. Great prices! Specials every night of the week. Who else has a tall call/ Bacardi drink on a Saturday night for $5??? I come often to drop off or pick up friends from the airport from Madison and this last trip I was so happy to find a new go to bar with great prices and even greater people, mostly all locals. My friend and I checked it for a free homemade apple pie shot, which was amazing! I can't believe it took us so long to get to this stinkin' place! We'd been mourning the death of the former inhabitant - Cool Water? - because just as we discovered the place, it shut down without warning and remained full of chairs and such for the longest time. Every time we drove past I said a silent prayer for the little bar that couldn't. And finally, they started painting it red and getting ready to reopen... and suddenly we didn't want to go there anymore??? Anyway, we finally took the plunge last weekend, when we were in need of a beer before bedtime (duh, Wisconsin), cursing the silly Tavern League legislation. We happened to wander in during their reverse happy hour, 9-12 on Sunday night (2-for-1 tap beers and $2 rail mixers, yowza!) so I enjoyed not one but TWO Serendipity's on the cheaps. They were also playing the Oscars on silent, which turned out to be a better way to watch them than the alternative [side note: Seth McFarlane is getting away with a little too much by using Peter Griffin's voice on a teddy bear and calling that a new movie, but I digress]. Our bartender seemed not to be the usual guy, but he was indeed working the next day when we returned, this time with my parents, who'd made a surprise visit to MKE just for me! We took them there because redbar is the first bar in the area that I've seen with Palm Amber by the bottle - they are ardent fans of the stuff since they visited Belgium, and although the brand is nearly equivalent to Heineken in Belgium, the distribution rights were only just released this year in Wisco. Our bartender remembered us from the night before - always a nice touch - and managed to put up with my dad's belligerent jokes, which is more than I can say for most of the hipster bartenders we've encountered north of St. Francis. This is definitely the type of bar that my parents will enjoy returning to (read: $4 bottles of import beer, versus $6 taps of the same elsewhere...), and it's a low-maintenance, surprisingly diversely stocked bar that's literally minutes from our apartment. The people are nice too, and they have a TV! Win-win-win-win-win! Ergo, five stars. read more

I love places that have more than Miller and Bud products. Keep in mind that you have to go up to the bar to order food. That fact is noted on the menus that you have to go to the bar to read. You're welcome for the tip people! Now you won't look stupid like I did. Employees were too busy socializing with regulars to let us know that we had to order from the bar. To preface: I really, really like Redbar. Literally one block south of the Bayview neighborhood line and a careful sprinkling of authentic dive-decor makes Redbar seemingly invisible to much of the Bayview hipster/hype. But while Bayview residents continue crowding into certain dive-chic establishments -- forking over unreasonable amounts of money for marked-up Sysco-distro grub, they're really missing out on Redbar. It's a clean, comfortable bar offering some quality, affordable, well-thought bar food. I'll always recommend Redbar to anyone looking for a new spot. But now for the mixed bag: The most recent time I went to Redbar, my date and I sat at the bar, ordered just drinks and appetizers, and the food and service was impeccable. It was like the payoff for having patience in the establishment after my first two visits. The first two times I visited, I came in on weekends with small groups of (4-5) people intending on having dinner together. We sat in the game room -- the place wasn't busy, but the service and the food pacing was not good. For example, each of our entrees came out one-by-one, which was awkward for a party who had every intention of dining together. What a fun little place hidden away on a side street in St. Francis! The sign on the wall said to get a menu from the bartender and while it was very busy when we walked in, there was only one person behind the bar. She couldn't have been friendlier. She handed us a stack of menus and kept up with all the rest of the customers at the bar while serving the food that came out of the kitchen. And the food...oh my! To say one get hardy portion is an understatement! I'd advise splitting a meal it's so ample. We ordered fish fries and they came out of the kitchen fast and were delicious. This is a new bar in Milwaukee! We drove up for the soft opening of this spot - and I'll qualify this by noting that the owner is a friend of my friend - hence the drive from Chicago to check this place out. We had a lot of fun! I was psyched to see the selection of New Glarus beer varieties, which are unavailable in Illinois - particularly their version of a cherry lambic for sipping. There are two levels - both with large screens for games. And there is a shuffleboard table which I love! The crowd was fun and drinking in Milwaukee was amazingly lower than drinking in Chicago - which is always cool. Stop by the Red Bar! read more
