Have been here numerous times and have always enjoyed ourselves. Mary Margaret took care of us on this visit and she was fantastic. Great personality, wonderful sense of humor, and outstanding customer service skills. This visit we ordered the Breakfast tacos with American potatoes, Bourbon Chicken Wrap with onion rings, and Brisket Skillet. All three were excellent and delicious and would recommend them. The atmosphere is another strength. Plenty of indoor, with both hightop and regular height tables, a large patio area with TVs, and a fire pit. They also have a building you can rent for events. Great brunch experience! I made a reservation the night before for 11am on a Sunday. I liked that I was able to pick which area I wanted to sit in (bar, 4 seasons room, patio) I'm glad I made a reservation because it was busy, but we got sat right away! I ordered the ultimate Mary and thought it was good, but I prefer my bloodies with a little more seasoning. The candied bacon topping was delicious though! For my meal I ordered the breakfast tacos with chorizo and really liked them. They were pretty greasy, but that is to be expected with that meat choice. They also had sausage and bacon as meat options on the tacos. I was not impressed with the potatoes and had to add salt. There was an option to add cheese and onion on the potatoes and maybe I would have liked them better if I had done it that way. The server was very nice and checked in on us the perfect amount of times. I will definitely be back when it's warmer and I can sit on the patio or watch a football game in the backyard. read more

I have tried A LOT of fish fries in the SEWI area and I can honestly say Matty's has the best hands down! I always get the baked cod so I can't speak to the actual fish "fry" but the piece of cod was huge, very well seasoned, flaky and I much appreciated the small dish of butter off to the side, instead of leaving my baked cod to drown in it. But, the best part of my dinner was the potato pancake! So many places serve up a bland and boring potato pancake because they don't cook it long enough. don't make it thick enough (or too thick) or don't season it at all and Matty's was absolute perfection. Crispy, seasoned, thick enough and the cinnamon applesauce was perfection to the level of doneness of the potato pancake. I couldn't stop raving about it during dinner and on our way home! What I didn't love was the pre-mixed drinks, especially the old fashioneds. Because the old fashioned is the natural pairing to a Wisconsin fish fry I would never expect the bartender to pour this from a premixed concoction, knowing darn well the flavors are far inferior & far too sweet for my taste, nevermind using bourbons I would never choose for my old fashioned. The barstaff was kept pretty busy during our visit with the dinner rush so we had to flag them down when we wanted to order or pay but the one bartender did walk back personally to grab an applesauce that the kitchen forgot! Overall it was a great experience. If pre-mixed drinks are your thing, Matty has you covered. If you've never had a really great fish fry and an even better potato pancake, don't sleep on trying one at Matty's. read more

Mattys is a solid neighborhood choice for drinks, dinner, and everything in between. Most recently, I went for brunch. Mattys is very well ran. The staff is so attentive. There was a short wait for a table on a Sunday around 11am. The place was packed (and even more so as I was leaving). The omelette and breakfast sandwich were terrific. There is tons of seating and a huge parking lot. They have a HUGE yard area with the biggest TV and bleacher seating. Firepit areas with seating. Great place to watch a game. I've been to Mattys a bunch of times but I previously haven't reviewed them. First of all, the positive. Super busy Friday night but I found a seat at the bar and was served right away. I ordered a drink. They do a ton of premixed cocktails so if that isn't your jam, be warned. They have a stellar whiskey selection for these parts though. I ordered the perch fry with fries. This is where the true disappointment began. Expecting fries, I was shocked when the food showed up with wedges on the plate. I asked if they made a mistake but the bartender said they made the change a year ago. Mattys. Update your menu. Wedges are not fries, and to boot they weren't even crispy. Went here for their annual Mardi Gras (Matty Gras) party, which was very nice and a lot of fun. They had a special Mardi Gras menu with gumbo, jambalaya, blackened chicken po boy, tempura shrimp po boy, muffalettas, cajun shrimpplus their full regular menu was available as well. They had specialty cocktails as well. The place was nicely decorated and at 6 we moved outside to the special events building for some live music by The Sidewinders. Matty's is a place I've driven by numerous times but never gone in. We stopped here with friends, and I'm so glad they wanted to meet up here. It was a Friday, and they were very busy. We headed to the back, where the various bars for drinks were open. The lines weren't too long, but people were everywhere, talking it up and having a great time. It was estimated to be around an hour for a table, but we got seated in under 30 minutes. You can grab about any drink you can think of, and if you're a whiskey or bourbon fan, there are plenty of options to choose from. We got seated inside, and behind us were so many options for spirits to purchase--it was fun just to look over everything they had. On top of that, there was a guy going around giving samples of spirits, so you can always get lucky that way and grab a sample of a possible future purchase We got salads, burgers, cheese curds, and other items. The food was excellent, and I was starving. If you left the place hungry, that's your fault--portion sizes were large, and the food was filling. The place was certainly noisy, and that's to be expected. This wasn't a problem, but keep it in mind. That Friday energy had people laughing, telling their stories from the week, and enjoying the food. Our server was extremely attentive and kept track of everything amidst so much going on there. Been going to Matty's for the last 20 years. What is so impressive is that this business has grown from the small neighborhood bar into the multi-faceted food/entertainment venue that it has become. In all this time, they continue to provide friendly service, a relaxing/casual environment, and high quality, creative menu items. There are outside areas that include a couple patios, a stage for live music, and a fire pit for mingling. We had reservations on a Wednesday night, and got in right away. We sat in the bar area, which was nearly full. It was loud, but we were able to have a conversation without shouting. Our server did a great job of getting us settled in, and throughout the entire night (thanks Mac!) For starters some of us got the Old Fashioned on Tap, a Beer, and a regular mixed Old Fashioned. The table consensus is that tap Old Fashioned not nearly as good as the mixed version. It's the week before St. Pattys so there was a special menu that had corn beef entrees. We got the Reuben Sandwich, the Corned Beef Dinner, and a couple of the "Luck of the Irish Burger". We didn't have to wait long for food, and everything was hot. Everyone had good things to say about their dinners. The smash burgers were good (although my preference is to have a larger patty cooked to medium-rare), the sauce was tasty without being overpowering, and the potato bun was a unique touch. Had a bite of the Reuben and it was also excellent. We had a birthday in our group, and you get a free dessert for the occasion. We ended up all sharing a piece of the chocolate peanut butter pie. This place is solid. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on Monday October 14th. She had the Turkey Cobb Salad. The ingredients were all very fresh. I had the special which was Pork Schnitzel with Mashed Potatoes and Asparagus. The Schnitzel was excellent. The potatoes had good flavor but were lumpier than I prefer. We split a cup of French Onion Soup, and it was outstanding. Not sure if I'll ever return to New Berlin, but if I do I'll stop by Matty's! read more

I just have to give a shout out to Matty's. For two months in a row I made reservations with them for a group of about 30 women, and they always accommodate. Today I appreciated their wonderful flexibility. Initially I had made the reservation for outside, but due to the cool weather I phoned at 9:30 for our 11:30 reservation and asked if they could instead seat us indoors. And they did!!! We had a wonderful server. Shout out to Mary Margaret. She obviously loved her work and was so very friendly and efficient with our large group. Everyone enjoyed their food. Not one complaint. 1.) The cheese curds had a nice crispy batter, but that was about it. They were flavorless and the ranch had the consistency of water. 2.) The French onion burger had way too much French onion dip, overpowering the burger. The Swiss cheese was also not melted because of the cold dip. 3.) I ordered a side of Mac and cheese which ended up being comically tiny and luke warm. We also got charged for the Mac and cheese, even though we sent it back. I cannot recommend this place. Cozy, warm and inviting on a below zero night. Started with mozzarella logs with an amazing cheese pull. Marinara sauce was sweet and balanced but would prefer a bowl vs plate to dip. French onion burger was the perfect medium and saucy. Kids demolished the mac and sliders (extra pickles!). And not a crumb or drizzle left of the chocolate cake. tl;dr MaryLee made the whole gosh darn visit! I have never been here before, as it's a little bit out of the way from my normal Bayview/Saint Francis type location close to home. However, my best friend in the entire world lives in Waukesha so this general area is a great middle spot. I was searching (of course on Yelp) to find a great spot and saw the large volume of reviews for Matty's, so decided to give it a shot! Matty's was already hoppin' when we got there on a Wednesday night. It's freezing right now (January) but I hear that they do some amazing live music and have a great outdoor patio when the weather is nice. I had reserved a table, so got immediately seated and was met by the sweet-talking, smart-selling, amazing waitress that is MaryLee. She was funny, bubbly, kind and made sure we had EVERYTHING we needed. She enticed us for the on tap bourbon old fashioned (we were a little skeptical, but she steered us right as the on tap was surprisingly good!) We almost got the mozzarella logs, but instead started off with their homemade chips and grandma's onion dip. Holy cow was it good. Dangerously good. The chips were fresh and super crispy/crunchy and anyone who likes any kind of chip dip is going to have a home run with "grannys". MaryLee explained how they're famously known for their burgers and pizzas, so we decided on the Meatlovers thin crust. I am VERY particular about my thin crust pizza. To be honest, there is really only one thin crust pizza I tout and recommend to everyone (Vinchi's) however, I can confidently say after my time at Matty's - I have another name and contender to throw in the mix for "BEST THIN CRUST PIZZA AROUND." it had the perfect ratio of sauce, the crust was just as crispy as you'd want it to be without toying on the edge of burnt and the toppings WERE BANGING. MaryLee checked in on constantly to make sure everything was tasting great and got us our takeout container for our delicious (and held up surprisingly well next day) leftovers. She is a stellar employee and clearly reps this place well. She alone would make me return, but luckily Matty's food and drinks are pretty damn good, too. I saw that Matty's Bar & Grille was close to a place I was visiting on a Sunday morning, so I looked at their online menu to see if they had a breakfast burrito. What caught my eye, though, was the Little Caesar, which was the burger special of the week in mid-February 2024. I called around 10:40am to make sure I could order it in case it was too early in the day or not the current week's burger special and they said I could get it. I addition to the Little Caesar (I went with fries for the side) I got cheese curds. The cheese curds were great. Perfectly crunchy and I feel like I got a good amount for the price. Absolutely something I would get again. The fries were battered, which I like for the extra crunch the batter adds. The Little Caesar, which I got without the sun dried tomatoes, was very good. The flavors of the burger and Caesar salad on top blended together well and yet at the same time I could taste them individually. It's not the best burger overall that I've ever had, but in terms of specialty burgers, it may be among the best. read more

I can't believe I never reviewed this place. I've been coming here a couple of times a year for over 20 years! It's been great watching the business grow and expand the facilities and offerings. They make amazing "bar food," and it's only bar food because it's a bar, when in reality, I think the food here is better than a LOT of restaurants around town, and therefore, has some of the best, if not the best bar food around SE WI. While they have grown, COVID has also caused a shift in focus, away from food trucks and off-site catering, to serving their customers on-site with the best experience they can. That includes live music on the patio and a "big back yard" with a MASSIVE screen for watching games. Burgers and thin crust pizzas are great, but on my most recent visit, I had my mind blown by a Short Rib Pot Roast dish I had two nights ago. Instead of a typical bowl of "stew," this was a plate of incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned beef short rib, with potatoes and onions and just enough roux to wet the ingredients while still allowing the short rib to rightfully be the star! It came with my choice of side, and I opted for the mashed potatoes, which had a few pieces of potato skin to announce that they were made in house and not from a box. My friend loved the French Onion Burger she ordered, and now I have to go back soon to get one, and we shared a Creme Brulee Cheesecake slice that was great without needing whipped cream or sauce to make it great. I've attended events here, such as bourbon tastings and bottle releases, and I've watched their selection of bourbons grow exponentially in just a year. Clearly, they want to be known as a "Bourbon Bar," in addition to having great food. I think they succeeded. I live close to downtown MKE, so it's rare for me to venture to the burbs, but Matty's is on the very short list of places I'm willing to break my routine for. read more

I've been going into the Brookfield Marty's for at least 60 years and instead of going with my older brother was a regular, he's the one that would say give me the largest pizza and stretch it and it's still on the menu! So until he moved away after about 35 years. This was his favorite restaurant and is my Prized and valued for the memories and for the way they treated my brother and myself now too the pizza is incredible and incredibly good read more

Fun atmosphere. Went on a Friday night. There was live music and the weather was nice so it was very busy. Put our name in for 8 ppl at 6pm and we were sat within 45 min outside which I was impressed about... (maybe we were just lucky). The fish fry was very good, potato pancakes were ok, fries were better in my opinion. I'd def order again. We also ordered the spinach artichoke dip and while it was good, I wasn't overly impressed. Came in a bread bowl and I feel like the portion was small because of it. I have heard good things about the food but was there once but this Sunday July 13 we will see DUO SONIC best band been around for a long time (was Hot Sauce in the day) - Brian on vocals and Mike as guitarist and electronic music in the back, their song choices are danceable and they are fun. The backyard is huge and has plenty of seating and the bands play out there and have room to move - a self serve bar area is a new and different idea plus a regular bar for drinks. Came here on a whim with friends for a late lunch, and was really impressed!! I recognized the Matty's logo when we pulled into the parking lot, as I had experienced their catering at an event before. Wasn't sure what to expect for their flagship location, but was thinking good things! Really enjoyed the house bloody mary - served with good garnishes and a chaser, you can't go wrong! We started with the house chips and dip, and we devoured it as a group of 4 in about 5 minutes it was so good! French onion soup was really great, nice melty cheese as you'd want! I got a wrap with fruit, but the burger and BLT at our table looked amazing! Fries were seasoned and fried well. Our server was friendly and very on top of drink and food orders, really impressed with service, especially since the place was pretty full with friends and family watching a golf tournament, and Matty's looks like it attracts a fun crowd. My job had our holiday party here and I just expected to be at a "bar" and eating bar food and that wasn't the case.
