This place is definitely a hit! It's such a cool and dark vibe/atmosphere. We got there right at 3:50 and there was a huge line within 10 minutes. All of the tables filled up within 12 minutes of getting there. The service was great! Great recommendations on drinks and food by the server. The AVANT GARDENER drink was so yummy! Love the concept of a speakeasy at a gas station. There is plenty of parking available and you enter through a door disguised as a beverage cooler. Upon entering they ID every one, so don't forget your ID! The lighting is dim and the space is stunning. They were able to accomodate my large group of 18 which I really appreciated, and service was friendly. They have a huge drink menu and most of the drinks I had were delicious. My first ever speakeasy!!! I saw this on a recent Yelp list and decided to try bringing a friend here without him knowing what he was in for. I was like, "I just need to stop in to this one convenience store that has something I'm interested in" and he followed me through the door behind the inconspicuous cooler and was very pleasantly surprised. I recommend tricking a friend into coming here! When you get into the actual bar, the contrast between the vivid decor and the surrounding environment is really striking. It is very nice inside, super classy. I don't drink, which is something that tends to inhibit my opportunities for speakeasies, but they have a small food menu that has just enough items for a reasonable meal. I got the Farmers Burger which was good; I'd get it again. My friend made his "dinner" from the charcuterie board and the elote-style Brussels sprouts. The latter is a very unique creation that is definitely worth trying, it was very good. And the charcuterie board was rather good as well, especially the mustard. Best mustard I've had in a long time. It also had these cool mozzerella curd-things and awesome salami. Great bread as well. I think most people will come for the speakeasy experience and the cocktails. I got a mocktail that I liked a lot, the Local Legend, and my friend got the Tea and Thorazine which he also really liked. And the menu of cocktails is super fun! Large, very carefully designed slate of drinks. Our server was very friendly and thoughtful as well. We wanted a southern suburb spot to celebrate our Anniversary and couldn't wait to check out Farmer's Cellar! Plenty of parking at the false front gas station, so nothing to worry about there! No reservations, and it was quite packed at 4:45pm when we arrived on a Friday night!! Enter in through the soda case, and you are welcomed into a dark and impeccably decorated speakeasy. Chandeliers, stained glass, melted candles transport you to the perfect atmosphere for a drink, snack, or dinner! Our server was super helpful and attentive during our stay! Drinks are wonderful and fun spins on the classics. I had the Tequila Leche, which was reminiscent of a Tequila/Mezcal based Old Fashioned. Perfection! My partner had the Daiquiri, which was a sweet and tart sip! Loved it! We shared a bunch of plates, which were all great!! Of note, the Pork Belly BLT sliders were our favorite: with a lovely twist of Tomato Jam and thick-cut Pork Belly instead of the traditional tomato and bacon! We also had the pizza, which was DELISH...But has a VERY bready crust to it, which we loved, but might not be enjoyed by every diner. Saw a cool video about this hidden spot inside of a gas station and had to check it out. This place is kind of a drive for me, I tried to make reservations but I dont think you can at this time. So just walked in, it was very busy and they put me on a list but they did have a patio where you can wait. We ended up just staying on the patio the whole time. Ordered a drink and a couple food items. Staff was very friendly and this was probably the fastest food service I've ever gotten. Seemed like 5 minutes after we ordered, the food came out. I enjoyed it and such a fun experience. Not sure how often I'd go back because of how far it is from me, but definitely worth it at least once. read more

A true hidden gem--literally! The Farmer's Cellar is one of the coolest speakeasy experiences I've had in a while. Tucked away behind a soda door inside a gas station this place oozes atmosphere from the moment you step inside. It's dark, vibey, and intimate--everything you want in a speakeasy. The ambiance is killer, but what really impressed me was the cocktail program. Drinks were seriously next level. The gimlet was everything. Every cocktail we tried was balanced, creative, and delicious. Huge shoutout to our bartender, Andrew, knowledgeable, and made us the perfect drinks based on what we enjoy. When I saw there was a new hidden speakeasy in Minnesota, I just had to check it out. It's a good hike from the northern suburbs, but definitely worth the visit! Going into an actual functioning gas station - candy, snacks, coffee machines and all - and ending up in a prohibition-type bar is so cool. The door is disguised as a pop fridge. The interior of the bar is dimly lit and old-fashioned without being too gimmicky. The drink menu is divided into sections based on how the drink is prepared with a brief description of the flavor profile, which I appreciated. For food, the Chips & Dip was amazing! I could eat a whole plate of the grilled crostini alone. I also got the Farmer's Burger. The burger was good, but the fries were probably in the top 5 fries I've ever had. Delicious! DO NOT MAKE A RESERVSATION!!! The reservation was worthless... The people that were walk ins seemed to have priority over the people that had resevations. The nightmare started with the requested of a standard table and chair with my reservation.They wanted to seat you at a high top table tucked in between the men's and woman's restroom. Finally complaining about the seating we ended up with a regular table and chair. While they were clearing off the table we were to be seated at, they knocked over a lite candle in a glass jar, spayed wax all over including on me and broke the lite candle to the floor. Just missing the people of the next table. The food we order for us was less then good. Ordered the short ribs that were subpar. Fat and mostly bone. With very little meat. I will never go back!! My wife and I went here to celebrate 47 years of marriage and to try a new place to dine... I will never go back!! read more

When you first walk in, it is dark and hard to see a lot but once you get into the actual bar itself, there is this wonderful perfect, looking atmosphere of an old-time bar during the prohibition. The look and feel of the place really sets you into an era. Barkeeps and staff are all wonderful nice people that really know what they're doing. My buddy and I sat next to the action at the bar all night and were very impressed with the Mixology that was showcased. There was a couple of our drinks that we didn't know what we wanted, but we know what we wanted to have as far as an alcohol. The bartenders took our orders and made something awesome every single time. The food on the menu was good although it was a short list. However, we've heard word that the menu and also the venue is getting an upgrade. But just like this bar, keep that on the down low. LoL this is definitely one of those places that serve a little bit more expensive on the drink, but ultimately you get what you pay for and you get some really amazing work. read more

Whoa! I've been around a bit over the years and have spent my share of time in bars. From highbrow joints to buckets of blood, I've seen em all. The Farmers Cellar is one you have to see! I'm not sure the name fits the ambiance and absolute top notch drinks but I'm not in marketing so.... From the unique way you enter the place (behind a display in a convenience store!), you find a hidden speakeasy! We sat at the bar, you should too! It is a ringside seat to an absolute apothecary show! My wife and I each had two drinks, each one more unique and exciting than the one before. Watching these expert bartenders ply their craft is better than any sporting event you could put on a TV (There are no TV's here). They have a manhattan, served hot, that is to die for. Brocket pizza was expensive and not that good. Brisket was fatty and way too much bbq sauce and hardly any cheese. Pork belly sliders were tasty but more bun than meat. All in all just left there feeling disappointed and a little ripped off. 2 drinks, sliders (Appetizer) and Brisket 9" pizza was over $100.00 with tip. This speakeasy bar has a secret door in the gas station. We pulled up to a gas station and was confused, we assumed the secret door had to be somewhere inside or the back. Luckily someone was nice to tell us the secret door is the sodas on the wall next to the taco booth. We didn't make reservations and had to wait about 45 minutes for a table. We were able to have a beer and hangout in the gas station while waiting. Once we got it, it was like a whole new world. Fancy seats and chandelier. It's darker lighting that gives an intimate vibe. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Such a fun and unique speakeasy in an unexpected part of the suburbs. We came here after seeing this online and finding out how close to home it was. My friend was in town visiting and we came for a Saturday night putting. We got here right around 9pm, and there was a short wait, but the crowd came after us and was hopping! You can buy beverages in the gas station while waiting and were able to bring them in with us too when we were seated. The cocktails were so unique and unexpected. We had a variety of drinks, but the avant gardener blew me away. The description made us Leary, but don't doubt the craft! It was as if we were drinking a fresh salsa, but in the best way possible. We also enjoyed the banana daiquiri and the it's French! Both were also great, without being too wild. All the cocktails were easy to drink and balanced! The real star of the show here is the service. We were seated at the bar, which was a great time being able to watch the bartenders make drinks in unusual ways. Grant, the bar manager, was behind the bar working and was SO knowledgeable and friendly. We chatted with him and he explained the process of creating the cocktails. At one point my friend was talking with him and gave some feedback about one drink (nothing bad, just thoughts on it). Grant was super receptive of the feedback and comped the drink for us. He also then gave us another cocktail on the house. Doing this for us was SO unexpected and really blew us away. I can't wait to come back and try more cocktails, and enjoy the experience again! It's a great idea. Love the small atmosphere and entrance idea. Period appropriate decorations, friendly staff, great drink ideas and nice presentation of the drink preparation if sitting at the bar. BUT, the drinks are over priced because they use these huge ice cubes that take up all the drink space in the glass, or they use very small glasses that would be about half the size of a regular martini glass. The food was meh. Very limited items on the menu. What they should do is incorporate the food that is offered in the gas station part of the space. They have a much better variety of items. I want to like this place because it's local and I want them to succeed, but they need to make a few changes in order to do that. Having a cool 'super secret' speakeasy is a great idea and especially for the local, but I think they need to come down to reality a bit to continue to have return costumers once the 'super coolness' wears off. read more

They work as a team to ensure all guests are taken care of, are able to provide wonderful insight on the entire menu helping you choose a drink that will satisfy. Making the experience even better is the food and drink. I had the Avant Gardener which was lightly sweet lightly sour proving a refreshing yet fun flavor every sip. Ordered a salad and the lettuce although tasty with the vinaigrette, was warm. No one likes warm lettuce! The real disappointment was the pizza for $27 which was sooooo obviously frozen (we were convinced it was the Costco pizza we recently tried) and had cheese that had a "sheen" and wasn't melted. The place is so cute and the hidden door is such a fresh idea. Unfortunately the service was not good at all. Took 20 mins to even get cups of water, no apology for the delay, table next to us sat after us and only had to wait 5mins to get served and they even got their food order in while we waited for 30 mins not even given an opportunity to order food. The seat behind us had the server check in on them multiple times but didn't even come to us. I would say very enjoyable and about at expectations, which were high. I really enjoyed my cloudy Patagonia, which had a great, sweet and tropical and yet smoky note, would've loved to have a version that was not frozen. You are not going for the food, so do not have super high expectations there. The Mexican street corn brussels sprouts were really well cooked, and just a little bit short of the punchy flavor necessary to be great.
