My wife tried to surprise me for my 40th birthday, but had to make sure I wanted to go fishing (who doesn't want to go fishing???). Anyway, she was debating between Redfin and another charter company. She spoke with both companies and when Ethan, the captain from Redfin, called her back, she was very impressed with his professionalism and manners and everything, so she decided on Redfin. Redfin was able to accommodate six of us (two brother-in-laws, father, daughter, nephew and myself). Anyway, Ethan was fantastic. He was finishing up another charter as we got there, but he introduced himself and told us he'd be right with us. He showed us where the boat was so we could go ahead and get things settled. After a short boat ride, Ethan immediately put us on some fish. My daughter caught the first one which was a red drum (these aren't the bulls, but still a good fight on light tackle). Then I nabbed the next two which were both speckled (winter) sea trout. We had to rotate people around because of where we were casting, but I think everyone caught something there. The bite slowed down a bit, so we moved down a little more. Caught a few fish in that area too. We then moved to the Isle of Palms and we tore up the winter trout. If I had to guess, I'd say we easily caught and released 30 to 40 winter trout. Throughout the whole trip, Ethan was professional, but relaxed and ever involved. He made no fuss when lines needed to be retied or whatever. The part I liked the most was that Ethan was there fishing with us. He was tossing lines out there and catching a fish and then passing it off to someone else to reel in. Sorry it was such a long review, but I can't say enough good things about Ethan and Redfin Charters. To summarize, we went out 11/23, the day before Thanksgiving, on a half day inshore charter. Ethan had to drive to Greenville from Charleston that night or the next morning, but he didn't let that interfere with our trip at all. He stayed a little later than normal because we were tearing up the fish so well. I would highly, highly, highly recommend Redfin Charters and Ethan specifically. I'm already looking forward to doing an offshore trip with him next year!! read more

We were visiting Charleston for a week following a wedding over the weekend. We booked an offshore 8 hour fishing charter for a Tuesday which seemed like a good idea and less busy since Charleston is a high tourist attraction. We had to be at the marina a little before 7:00am. We received a call from our Captain the evening before and went over details and answered any questions or concerns we had. He also specifically asked if we were fishing for anything in particular which I thought was neat. Both my husband and I have been on a fishing charter before but I would say this one was more interesting/fun. Instead of letting the poles rest in the holders, we were live baiting them and holding onto them waiting for a bite. Captain Justin was super informative but not a "hand holder" unless you wanted him to be. It was a decent high pressure situation because we had a lot of sharks wanting our catches. For example, I lost a Red Snapper to a shark because I couldn't reel it in fast enough. We caught a whole random school of fish including: amberjack, mahi, red snapper, grouper, and cobia. We took waters, beer, and snacks for lunch. He had a cooler provided and dry storage on board. Captain recommended two Dramamine the night before and one less drowsy Dramamine in the morning and that did the trick! Neither of us had an issue and I can tell you on other charters, we definitely have "tossed our cookies". We paid the additional $20 to have them filet the fish for us on the dock. They also provided ice and bag coolers for the fish which was a nice surprise! Highly recommend RedFin Charters! We can't wait to come back and try another experience with them :) read more

Redfin Charters was the most memorable part of our 10 day business trip to Charleston. It was actually the first thing we did our first full day and it defined our trip. The fact that Captain Joel would pick us up at the Marriott waterfront hotel private dock and that he provided quality cigars from an onboard humidor were great selling points for us! Captain Joel was one of the best charter captains I have had and I have done a lot of charters from New England down through Florida and the Bahamas. He was knowledgeable, friendly and committed. Our trip started off a bit slow due to high boat traffic from the holiday weekend, but Captain Joel kept on the hunt and we moved spots until he put us on the fish. We ended up getting a bunch of nice trout, a few scrappy little reds and a sheepshead. Joel also made the experience even better by telling us about area history and sights as we worked between fishing spots. To top things off he filleted our catch at his marina after dropping us off at the dock in front of our waterfront Marriott hotel and delivered the fillets to us while we were celebrating the good outing in the outdoor hotel hot tub over a few cold beverages! But it didn't stop there. Captain Joel gave us several restaurants that would cook our fresh catch to order and even recommended some favorite cooking techniques and the best sides to pair with the fish. We use RedFin for a large event in Charleston every Spring. This is our 4th year with them and somehow, they continue to top the previous! We had 52 fishermen last week. Everyone at RedFin goes above and beyond and we cannot thank them enough for ALL of their hard work. From coordinating the fine details, to setting up a fabulous lunch on Drum Island, to helping take our fish to Saltwater Cowboy for us all to try some that they caught... it is always the BEST time!! Personally, I did not fish but some of the RedFin guys came and picked me up and took me to Drum Island so I could participate and help with the lunch. While we were waiting for the fisherman, I was looking for shark's teeth for my son. Pat saw that I was looking and took me on a walk to show me where the best ones are. He told me all about how to best find them in the future. One of the captains, Austin also gave me some large shark teeth to take home! Thank you for another amazing year RedFin! Captain Dylan made our trip with Red Fin Charter Fishing the highlight of our visit to Charleston! He was knowledgeable, friendly, courteous, and went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a great time. We caught several fish, three sharks, and even a stingray. He also spotted dolphins and made sure my 4 and 6-year old grandchildren got to see them up close, which was such a special moment! The best part of the trip was his quick thinking when I started feeling seasick. I mentioned that I usually wear a motion sickness bracelet but had forgotten mine. Captain Dylan said, "Let's make one!" He used a plastic water bottle cap, a fishing weight, and my watchband to create a homemade acupressure bracelet over my pressure point. I was surprised, it actually worked! I felt better almost immediately and was able to enjoy the rest of the afternoon, even while we were stopped in choppy water. His kindness, creativity, and genuine concern for his guests turned what could have been a miserable afternoon into the best experience of our Charleston trip. We had a great time with Captains Ethan and Brendon for about 5 hours on the water. Because of some difficulty catching live bait, they exteneded the trip beyond the four hours which we enjoyed. Both were personable, interesting, and extremely knowledgable. This was a bachelor party, so we had two boats of four people each and some solid interboat competition. Joel made everything seemless from a payment and logistics perspective. Caught a few sharks, a few stingrays, and a fair number of large redfish. 5 1/2 foot shark and a 100 pound stingrays were definitely highlights. While we knew nothing about fishing, it might have been interesting (but potentialy a liability) if were able to do some of the casting, hooking, etc. but it also was great to enjoy the day and eat Church's Chicken on the water. Only note is timing is somewhat dependent on the tides and on other groups, so makes sense to be flexible and not hold yourself to any tight timing. read more

Had a fantastic two days of fishing with Captain Justin. The first day we went inshore, catching mostly redfish up river. He had some great spots already identified and we caught lots of fish--very fun and active day out on the water. We had more fun grilling the fish that night, as they are delicious to eat. The second day we went about 15 miles offshore and fished wrecks. We caught a couple good sized Cobia, which are lots of fun to catch and even better to eat. We also caught amberjack, more redfish, and wrestled some big sharks. We actually chased one big one for about 45 minutes--crazy experience. It was a blast, and once again, Justin knew just where to go and how to rope them in. All told, I'm still eating all the fish we caught and also trying to figure out when I can get back down there to fish again. My dad and I made our maiden voyage to Charleston in late October to fish and eat our way through the city. The team at RedFin Charters came highly recommended through my research and were excellent, very communicative in the days and hours leading to our departure and helpful in making our overall experience memorable. I can't always say that for previous fishing trips to other places. We had two super fun days with guides Rusty and Wilson zipping around the low country waters. Lot's of calm waters, tight lines and pictures of our catches! They were also super helpful in helping us find restaurants where locals dine and sharing insight into who would cook up your fresh catch. We certainly intended to return next year, perhaps with the best fisher person in our family, my mom. We booked the half-day in-shore charter. Justin was our captain and we had a great time! He worked hard to get us to locations where we could find fish and we brought home a really nice catch (two specked trout, a redfish, and a flounder). We also caught quite a few stingrays and a big, 29" redfish (my wife reeled that one in!) During the trip, we had some some bad weather come in. Justin prioritized our safety and got us out of the water and kept us dry and away from lightening. And then he kept us out for an extra hour to make up for the time we lost. All through the trip, he was knowledgeable and told some great stories. The next time we book with Redfin, I hope we get Justin as a captain! Also a big shout-out to Tanner! I recently booked a 4-hour fishing trip with Redfin Charters out of Safe Harbor Marina with Captain Ryan Howard. While the fishing was a bit slow, Captain Howard went above and beyond to ensure we had a successful trip. He constantly put us on fish and was incredibly patient with a couple of first-timers on board, teaching them how to use the equipment and proper fishing techniques. Thanks to his efforts, they had a fantastic first time fishing experience. Overall, I highly recommend Redfin Charter and Captain Howard. Booking was easy, the staff was friendly and professional, and Captain Howard's attentiveness made the trip enjoyable for everyone. My wife and I went for a half day with another couple we came to Charleston with. The guide asked what kind of fish we wanted to catch.... We told him we just wanted action and big fish. He proceeded to ask what each of our biggest fish was and said the best bay fishing right now is for sharks and that's what we did. We caught 7 sharks and 2 sting rays. 2 of the Sharks were over 6 ft. So much fun, we asked if he was busy the next day. He wasn't so we booked that and caught 9 sharks the next day. Tons of fun!!! Will definitely book with them again next time we come to Charleston. Will probably stay on one of the yachts they have too. Prices to do that were better than the fancy hotel we stayed in downtown. read more

AWESOME COMPANY!! My boyfriend and had to cancel our booking due to a personal matter and RedFin was extremely understanding. My son and I scheduled an inland half day charter on 18 July 2024, 1200-1600. Our captain was Bill and he was outstanding. We arrived early and was greeted at the dock by Bill. Bill offered some options for fishing and ask us what we were interested in catching. Bill provide several different locations and each site produced fish. Bill answered all questions and even offered his recommendations on how to cook some of how catches. We were able to land an assortment of red fish, drum, trout, and even a sting-ray. Captain Bill does it all. With no wasted time, he kept us moving from one spot to the next. If a lull in activity occurred, we were on to the next spot, ending with a flurry of activity. Bill proved he knew the waters and where the fish were. Grandpa, three sons and two grandsons all had fun. Too much activity to be bored. All of us caught fish ... 35 in total on a morning charter. Red fish, sheepshead, black drum and more, including seven keepers. Then Bill cleaned the fish and left us wanting to come back another day. We will be back. I could barely move my arms this morning from reeling in so many fish yesterday! Rusty at Redfin had everything set up for our adventure. The rods rigged and ready. Cooler with cold beverages. He hit the honey spot for bait first net cast and we were quickly on our way out to begin a successful day catching Cobia, Proggies, Red vermillion and Snapper! Saw sharks, plenty of barracudas, jelly fish, sea turtles and dolphins. The day could not have been more perfect. We would definitely choose Redfin for our next fishing trip. Was hoping to get into some nice sized redfish and Captain WOlson put us on the fish! He placed us in several areas and we stayed on the most productive holes, moving quickly if the spot was not holding fish . We had good luck with speckled trout and some small redfish. Cap on the day was the last fish of the day, a almost 30" red that put up the fight an angler loves! We went out today with Ethen for 4 hours. We caught 12 large Red Fish. Ethen did a fabulous job. He worked extremely hard, and made sure we Always had a pole in the water. He also made sure we tried different bait. Crab, Mud Minnows and Mullet. I have fished with a number of charters over the years, but this is the first time I actually posted a review. I will be back to the Charleston area again, but before I set my schedule, I will first check with Ethan to see when he is available. That's how impressed I was with his guiding. read more

Best Inshore charter Experience hands Down! Captain Wilson was great! He put us on the fish! If you are looking to get a fishing charter while in Charleston, then these are the guys you want to use. I will not use anyone else when I come back into town. My girlfriend had never been out inshore fishing before and was skeptical. She didn't have to touch the bait or the fish.
