In over a dozen years taking cabs to LAX, he was the first person who suggested the shortcuts. I wholeheartedly agreed, and got dropped off in record time--Christmas rush and otherwise! Tried to call the main office to compliment the driver, but haven't gotten through yet. I agree with another reviewer who said that South Bay Yellow Cab is hit or miss. This time for me, it was a resounding hit, all due to the cabbie. I wish I had gotten his name.

When I told him I would rather wait because he was yelling at another cabbie, he told me I wasn't as good as the next people. While pointing his finger at me, he continued to say these other people were better than my wife and me. How does this make your company a service people want to use in a world of other choices. We have the rights to freedom of choice. 718 hurts your company and I would take note of his record. These type of drivers make Uber more desirable. I wasn't able to get them to cancel the reservation that I had not made either by sending messages online or by leaving phone messages. Foolishly I left my cell phone in his cab and he was fabulous in helping me retrieve. Not only did he find a friend's number in my phone and call it from his phone to let me know he had it (I'm a senior from Canada and don't use my phone in the US), but tried to bring it to my home. Unfortunately, we didn't connect, but he took it in to the office first thing Monday morning and I picked it up there. I cannot say enough about this man's honesty. I removed my jacket, as I was becoming queasy from the heat, road noises and the banging of my luggage as it rickshawed across the hatchback compartment above the trunk of the cab. By the time we arrived at LAX, I suspected the sheet was covering stains from a previous victim of this aggressively driven hotbox. But wait! There's More! I was told by multiple people at the hotel that the fare was a flat-rate of $52. When we got to LAX, the POS screen flashed a fare of $60+. The driver asked if I had cash, otherwise the fair was $60+, "but it was okay to not leave a tip". BUT WAIT! There's more . The POS machine failed to work, so driver persistently asked if I had cash. I gave him a $100 bill and he could not make change! Back to Square 1; he fumbled around and got the machine to work, but it did not provide a receipt. The driver provided an old-fashion business card receipt that I could complete by hand. I was overjoyed to enter the air conditioned confines of the airport.

I was promised a notification three days before pickup with instructions -- it never came. The night before my return flight I had to call multiple times just to get a contact number to use upon arrival. When I landed and called that number, the driver said he'd never been assigned to me and had no idea who I was -- he was picking up his kids. I called the main number. No answer. Straight to voicemail -- which was full. Same on my second attempt. I managed to get a text through and eventually received a callback connecting me with a different driver, who arrived about 20 minutes later. To his credit, that driver was genuinely apologetic and a pleasure to deal with -- the only reason this is two stars instead of one. He candidly told me he'd just finished another fare and was called in last-minute, which directly contradicts what I was told the next day when I called to address the situation. That call was the most frustrating part. Rather than acknowledging what went wrong, the person I spoke with was condescending and dismissive -- telling me it "wasn't a big deal." He then claimed the second driver had been waiting for me as planned and that the first number I was given was never actually my driver. That's not what either driver said. Someone isn't telling the truth, and I know which version I believe. The whole point of paying a premium for private car service -- rather than taking the shuttle to the Uber lot -- is a smooth, stress-free return home. This was neither. And when something goes wrong, a little accountability goes a long way. I didn't get that either.
