Just wanted to praise the South Bay Yellow Cab _driver_ who recently took me to LAX. Maybe the best cabby I ever had. He saved a lot of time us by using a couple of shortcuts to bypass the crazy Christmas rush traffic. I knew one of them, but not the other. In over a dozen years taking cabs to LAX, he was the first person who suggested the shortcuts. I wholeheartedly agreed, and got dropped off in record time--Christmas rush and otherwise! Tried to call the main office to compliment the driver, but haven't gotten through yet. I agree with another reviewer who said that South Bay Yellow Cab is hit or miss. This time for me, it was a resounding hit, all due to the cabbie. I wish I had gotten his name. read more

10/12/2023: 4:07 PM In a Yellow Cab Co cab that is green, with a Yellow Cab gardena address on the LADOT license placard inside the cab. I was coming from LAX going home.. I wanted to randomly test the rate & experience compared to Uber which is my usual. UberX rate was 39.63. Now in the cab. When he plugged in my address he started complaining out loud. I asked him if everything was ok. He said it's such a short distance and taking 45 min. OK. About 15 min I asked the driver if the rate was flat , he said no its by the minute. "I can't see the running rate on my screen?" (in back of passenger seat). He said no. OK 10 min later I ask what is the rate now? No answer. Hello? I say. He replies rudely, why ? you can't pay or something? I said, I want to compare the rate to Uber. What's your problem? Is that the rate so far ? (I verbalize what I see on his screen). Yes he briskly replies. After his rude behavior, trying to cross Olympic Blvd without a light during high traffic and missing my drop off location even with the address plugged in, I lost it. Final Yellow Cab Co price = $49 + $0 tip for his zero *ucks. Uber comparable price = $39.63 I'm done. Back to Uber. What a D. read more

I've only taken a taxi twice, so I'm unfamiliar with what to watch out for. I know better now. This was a HORRIBLE experience. I wish I could give negative stars. The driver CHEATED me. I got in at the LAX taxi stand at almost 1 am after a long flight. There was a long line of people waiting for a cab, so I allowed the driver to rush me into the car. He NEVER turned on the meter and I never saw any price info. He just put my address into his phone, then started driving. I know there was a language barrier, so I didn't think anything of it. But on my way home, I started getting scared and wondering where he was taking me. It turns out he still got me home, but he took the LONGEST possible route. I live in an area near several freeways, and he took 5 different freeways when I could have gotten home using 3. He added over 7 miles & 5 minutes to the route. There was no reason for this, because there were no road closures and no traffic at that hour. Sneakily, he also dropped me off across the street and one house over, so that his car wasn't captured on my doorbell camera. He had me pay by tapping my card on his cell phone, not on the machine that's on the headrest of the car. Only after talking with my husband did I realize that NONE of this is normal or standard practice. I am so angry, and I feel like I was assaulted, even though I know I was only taken advantage of financially - luckily, I was not physically harmed. But still!!! And since I was so tired from my trip and new to taxis, I didn't get his name or taxi number. I called the customer service line (impossible to get hold of them too!), and the lady couldn't help me much since I didn't have any identifying information. She couldn't even find the credit card transaction. Ugh! Avoid this company! And take care of yourself if you ever ride a taxi! Take pictures of the car before you get in - capture the license plate and taxi number. And make sure you discuss pricing and that they turn on the meter in a way that's visible to you BEFORE they even begin driving. Also, never pay on the driver's phone - always use the machine on the headrest. I send curses onto that driver and I hope he doesn't get the chance to take advantage of other passengers the way he did with me! read more

Called for a taxi on a Sunday around noon and navigated the automated system. After 20 minutes of waiting I called back and the automated system told me they were still searching for a taxi. DO NOT USE! HORRIBLE!!!!! I pre-scheduled a taxi to pick me up for a ride to the airport. They weren't here at the time I scheduled. When I called they told me they didn't have a driver to pick me up. 15 minutes later they still did not have a driver and they couldn't tell me when one would be available. I ended up calling Uber and had a ride in 10 minutes. Taxi companies complain about Uber and Lyft taking their business. This is why. Save yourself the time and aggravation. read more

I made a reservation for my mother who is in a wheelchair. I received both text and email confirmations for each leg of the trip. When no one arrived for pick up 15 minutes after my reservation, I tried to call. When I finally reached a person rather than a recording on my third call, I was told that they saw my reservation but no taxi was assigned to it. They said they would try to look for a taxi, but could not tell me when one might arrive. It never did. I called again to delay the pickup since we arrived 45 minutes late having to get my mother in and out of her wheelchair and into a car, but again no taxi arrived. No call No text. The taxi came out and was upset when he saw the rider was an old frail African American woman who "looked homeless". He kept asking if she had money money money. I said of course she does. I wouldn't even give one star. We made a reservation 4 hours before our flight and needed a ride to LAX. When the taxi didn't show up we called and they told us they were looking for a driver. We were told to wait 10 minutes and call back. 10 minutes later we called back and spoke to a supervisor who said he could possibly get us a driver if we could wait another 20 minutes which would have made us late for our flight. We ended up having to drive ourselves to the airport and pay over $200 for parking. Making a reservation will not guarantee you get a ride at the time reserved. Use Uber instead. read more

I was just cut off and almost drove into a pole by one of these drivers then he told me while pointing his hand gestures that he's going to shoot and kill me. A buddy and I were out drinking in Santa Monica on Friday night and both needed to get home. My phone had died earlier and when he pulled his out, it was dead too. Luckily (we thought), the bar was able to get us a cab. When we got in, I asked about how much it would be to drop my friend off downtown then take me to Alhambra. The driver said "eh, $80." Expensive compared to Uber, but our own damn faults for not charging our phones. He turned on the meter and off we went. Between Santa Monica and DTLA, we decided I'd crash on my friends couch and take the Expo line back to get my car in the morning, so no trip to Alhambra. When the driver dropped us off, the meter said $42 and change, so I gave him my card and $10 for a tip. It wasn't until today that I looked at my account and saw he charged me the full $80 he'd quoted for going all the way to Alhambra! Total scammer. read more

Ordered cab for LAX. Stood outside after the "your cab is here" phone call....no cab. Again, my phone rings and I'm outside but no cab. I walked around my building to find a cab waiting down the street. I walked, luggage and all to my cab and told the driver he was at the wrong address. (Interesting because he was on an entirely different street than mine! It's like my address was West 15th Street and Cab was waiting on Artesia Blvd. How do you mix them up?!?) Next the driver asked me if I was going to fly on Southwest Airlines?!? Ok what about me said "Southwest?" I found that insulting it's like picking up an Chinese American and asking, Oh you must be flying China Air. No I'm not flying to Oakland, Drop me off at my airline, UNITED! I've never flew SW, ever. BETTER TO PAY IN CASH. The first time I used South Bay Yellow Cab everything went as scheduled. Taxi was on time both ways and the drivers were courteous. However, on my next round-trip with them things changed. The cabs were prompt, but when I went to use my debit card to pay the fare, their machine registered "Card Declined." I knew this was wrong so I tried the card again and got "Card Declined." Then I used my Master Card and this time, no problem. However, ALL THREE CHARGES appeared on my two accounts. It took several attempts, but I finally got through to their Accounting department. The lady said that only one billing appeared on their records for the trip. In the meantime, I contacted my bank and all three charges appear on my two accounts. The bank is disputing the two extra billings. BETTER TO PAY IN CASH. read more

It's really a shame that this company can't get itself together. After having the experience (written below) of trying to get a cab during a busy weekend, I tried using them again - and was happy to see that they had improved and were very consistent, that is until recently. The last few times I booked a cab, cab has either shown up late or in the last case, not at all. I pre-booked a cab (an hour ahead of time) on a very quiet night to make a dinner reservation. 10 minutes before cab time, I got a text that cab was .9 miles away. After the 10 minutes came and gone without a cab, I called the operator. She told me the cab was now .1 miles away and should arrive momentarily. I waited 5 more minutes - no cab. I should point out, I was standing outside of where I live. I called back. A new operator told me the same thing - he was .1 miles away. When I had explained I had been waiting now 15 minutes for a cab (a cab had reportedly been dispatched), she checked in with the driver directly. Here's the best part - operator says "Cabbie said you were late - never showed up". I explained I'm standing outside and there has not been a cab by ....operator offered to send another cab within 15 minutes. This now forces me to drive to make my dinner reservation. Because, how can I be sure that a cab will actually show up? And this now forces me to try and find another cab company to use in the South Bay. read more

We called them to see where the driver was and they said "oh he might be there by 7:00." Are you kidding me? How are these guys even in business? I called the night before to get a cab for a 4am call. When it got to be a little after 4am, I called to follow up and she said that no one had been dispatched and that it would take up to 30 mins to get a driver. Fearful I would miss my 5:30 am flight, I drove myself and parked in a nearby lot barely making my flight. I've used there services in the past, but never again. The first time driver was 30 minutes late and parked in front of the wrong address, with the meter on for who knows how long until I found him. The second time, next morning, it was the same driver and he was 35 - 40 minutes late this time around. He said it was because he had to drop off his daughter at school. Unprofessional much? Always use these guys in the past to get to the airport. They ask for all your contact info, but don't bother to tell you they are running late. 10 minutes after I was supposed to be picked up, I called and was told I didn't have a cab assigned. Is this an episode of Seinfeld? Don't take the reservation (the night before) unless you plan to hold the cab for me. Might as well rely on your sketchy cousin for a ride. For the past 3 years, we've relied on South Bay Yellow Cab to get us to the airport for all our travel needs. They have ALWAYS been on time... and usually even a few minutes early. What I love about South Bay Yellow Cab is that they TEXT you when they're on the way so that you know they will likely be arriving in the next 5-10 minutes. Convenient, right? The taxi cabs are always clean and the drivers are friendly and helpful. They always help you with your luggage both in and out of the cab. We've also recently noticed that all the taxi's are now equipped with a small TV screen that has local news and events. The TV screen also shows the amount accruing on the side and also allows you to pay by credit card by swiping the side of the screen - pretty cool! We like modern day technology. Price is standard to all other cab services in LA. Highly recommend for all your cabbing needs. read more

I've used these guys a dozen times or so this year and have been mostly satisfied. Their automated system recognizes my number and a cab is usually at my house within 5-10 min. Unfortunately, during busy times they drop the ball. This past weekend was a busy time in the South Bay with great weather, volleyball tournaments, etc. But isn't just about every weekend like that??? We called a cab with 30 min to spare, but knowing that every other time we called they arrived in less than 10 min. Three phone calls and 40 min later . . . still no cab - just lots of excuses and passing the buck on their end. We ended up having to drive ourselves, which was not a good thing.
