Reds stands as one of the top attractions in Virginia City. It could be the wide variety of scrumptious candy, the hot dogs, ice cream or maybe just a nice place to sit down away from the summer heat and relax. For me it's the jawbreakers. The bigger the better and they have some doozies! I'm also guilty of grabbing a cold soda and kickin' it in the back. The place is a bit pricy, but worth it in the end. I like to look at it in the grand scheme. A fun, quality opportunity to share with family and friends. The cozy, old-fashioned atmosphere is so inviting, keeps me coming back for more. First I'd like to review the candy shop. We visited this establishment on the 4th of July. We had a candy apple rolled in peanuts which was excellent. Expensive but I expected that so that was not a problem. We also bought three pecan turtles which were also amazing and delicious. A little bit salty but it went well with the caramel and the chocolate. We decided to eat a sandwich there as every place was packed with long wait times. We ordered the French dip sandwich which was $9.99 for a 5 in or 15.99 for a 10 in. We also ordered chicken strips with fries for the child and an extra basket of fries to share. The food took about a half hour to come which was a shorter wait time than anywhere else that we checked. The chicken strips and fries came and were very hot and crispy and quite good. Our order of fries came next which we enjoyed while waiting on our sandwiches. I ordered the 5-in sandwich and my daughter and son-in-law shared the 10 inch. We had it on a sourdough roll which was fresh and good but the meat was not. It was almost like processed beef and it was cold. The au jus was very strong and was not very hot either. I do understand it was a holiday and they were very busy but the sandwich was not heated in any way so it was very disappointing. The place was bustling and the staff was friendly and they were cleaning up tables immediately so new customers could be seated. We ordered a couple of sandwiches, among other things. We sat down, about 4 of us at a booth and played a sensory video on our iPhone for our son. We were not bothering anyone and were not playing music loud on our phone. We were told to "turn the music down" by a man named "Chris". He said this to my father in-law. The business was playing music very loud through their speakers. He was very rude and very out of line. We were the only people in the establishment around 12:45pm on Tuesday, 9/17/24. What a fun and delicious place this is for the whole family. My grandmother needed to sit down, and we were hungry so we stumbled into this place and we're not let down. We ordered the kids chicken strips and fries and ordered ourselves the chicken finger sandwich. The kids ate all the fries, as they usually do and we were blown away by what we assumed a regular chicken strip sandwich. I always get the fudge and the caramel apples. All candy is made on site. As far as I know there are no exceptions. Highly recommend the carmelled apples. Made professionally and high quality ingredients. I prefer to get my fudge cut in front of me. Sometimes this fudge is a little bit grainy. Taffy is soft and pulley. All varieties of nut brittle. There is street parking, but you will likely need to use a lot and walk. This is ground central for sweets. They have handmade candies including fudge, chocolates, and their speciality brittles. Home of bonanza and the Cartwright's.(Ben, Adam, Little Joe, Hoss and Hop Sing). My wife and I split a pastrami and Swiss on panini bread with fries. The service was outstanding and the sandwich was equally outstanding. There are many other choices on the menu to choose from and you can even have dessert from the candy shop when you're done. The prices are right. The one small issue you may have to deal with is parking. You have to remember this IS a tourist place. Ordered my block of milk chocolate fudge and a price of 15 plus dollars and when I got it back to my room and tried to cut a piece I found the middle section eel was full of white solid chunk of crystallized stuff in the center. The food was fair, but the bald guy with tattoos (cook? manager? owner?) was totally out of control and ruined our visit. I don't know what brought it on, but he came out of the kitchen, screamed obscenities (the f word) at a customer that she wasn't to treat his employee that way, threw her receipt on the table, told her and her party (all senior citizens) to leave and threatened to call the police when she tried to speak with him. This shocked me as I had observed the woman interacting with others and entertaining a little girl (who called her a "nice big lady") by showing her the butterflies on her socks. When the guy threw the tantrum, the woman looked absolutely gob smacked. She gave the "what is he talking about?" palms up gesture. She then cleaned up the table where her party had been sitting, threw away the trash and left as ordered. She was far more polite than I would have been. It was interesting that another customer also seemed perturbed by the man's action, as she dumped a cup of water on the woman's table before leaving. Canned soup heated in the microwave. Tuna melt and bread heated in the microwave. While eating I watched the Candy maker make fudge in the microwave. This place is called REDS OLDFASHIONED CANDIES. There's nothing old fashioned. The owners came storming in as we sat questioning the Candy market on how much have they made today? 10$ ? Maybe if you were old fashioned, you'd be busy.
