Food. Breakfast was delicious. I love that they griddle. We don't have that in Florida. I ordered pumpkin French toast. Super good! I didn't really like the sausages. Service: It was fine. They were nice. Ambiance: It felt historic. Very nice interior and exterior. Feels. Like a hole in the wall. Comfy and cozy.

Huuuuge menu of food and drinks! The drinks specifically there was like 2.5 pages. Only thing is that they took some time to make-- we got our drinks finally after already eating our entree. Our waitress was amazing and so was the woman who brought out our food, they are friendly and have smiles on their faces. The food was great, we got an order of 2 pancakes to share, they were huge. I got the bama Benny which was cornbread with corned beef hash and poached eggs. The flavors were insane. Only thing is I wish the home fries (potatoes) were crispier! You could probably ask them for crispy ones when you order. Would definitely go back! I see why everyone loves this place.

Last day of vacation so we ventured out for breakfast. This was the place to be. Very crowded but we were lucky to arrive and get seated immediately. When we left there was a line out the door. McKenzie was a great server! He was on top of everything. Food arrived at table very quick. I had the Volturi off the special menu. Omelet with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, mushrooms and mozzarella. So flavorful. My husband enjoyed eggs with French toast and 3 large sausage links. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the establishment!

During my last day in Boston, I decided to make a small detour. I decided to hop on the train and take a half hour train ride out to Salem, being that I never been and figured to see what I was missing all this time. Stepping off the train, it was just after noon, lunchtime. Not knowing the area, I found a gift shop and while at checkout, asked all the associates what they recommended for lunch. All of them said the same thing, Red's. With that, I took off (also Yelping and found out they close at 1), and got my butt over there. Being that I was a party of 1 (easy peasy), I was placed at the breakfast bar. The menu is very much offers breakfast and lunch food. I decided to get a Monte Cristo sandwich as it got me some French Toast with a little extra. This might be the best Monte Cristo I have ever had. Light, savory, and the choice of home fries over french fries made it all better. The portion size is incredibly generous. I could only imagine what would have been if I came here during breakfast. At that point I would have eaten the whole menu. The idea was to eat something that would tie me over for my entire visit to Salem, as I figured to get back in Boston by dinner and enjoy dinner there while not ruining my day in Salem. To make a long story short, the plan worked.

The staff was so accommodating! My friends and I got caught in the rain and they provided us with towels because we were soaking wet. Apple of my Eye 6/10: Graham cracker rim was too weird. The drink itself was decent. I don't think I'd order it again tbh. Sweater weather 8/10: You need this in your life. It was slightly sweet. Such a good, cozy meal. Ravioli itself was a bit tough to bite into but I think the flavor made up for it.

A solid breakfast and lunch diner type place. It's located in an old house and that adds to the charm. The sandwiches were slightly bland, and the chicken pot pie had a really thick gummy type texture. The mashed potatoes tasted like boxed. The hot dogs and breakfast plates looked good so I would stick with that.

MASSIVE PANCAKE ALERT! Came for breakfast and omg the pancakes were HUGE! had the banana ones and they were delicious-also such a great price for how much you get! Coffee drinks are also great.

Super busy on a late Sunday morning at the end of September. We were seated fairly quickly. Fast service, tasty food. Staff super friendly. I had the krabbie cakes. Delish. Cute decor. Historic building that dates back to the revolution.

Great service and a tasty breakfast! Visited while driving through Salem on a Monday morning and loved the experience. Our server was so kind and attentive, even offering to provide to-go cups for iced lattes once we finished our food. I enjoyed my biscuits and gravy, as well as my pistachio iced latte! It's a cute greasy spoon that feels authentic versus tourist-trap-y, which seems like a rare find in Salem. Highly recommend!

Pretty busy and the staff is super friendly but the experience feels a bit rushed, at least it did for us. Not in a bad way in all honesty, in an efficient manner - they're famous for a reason! The food is delicious and I also got a mimosa which was great! Love the local feel and it's our favorite place to go no matter what season it is!

Before coming to Salem, almost every video I watched on TikTok told me to not miss the opportunity to come to this place. I am happy to report the videos were right! This place was a wonderful place to come for breakfast before we started exploring the city of Salem. The service was excellent and the inside was extremely cozy. They had a great menu with a ton of options but at the same time, not overwhelming. I was mind blown how quick my husband finished his eggs Benedict meal, I'm surprised he didn't lick the plate. I wound up getting the lox breakfast and it was SO good and the lox was very fresh and not overly salty. They also made their cream cheese in house, I feel like something was missing with the cream cheese but it was still delicious. We also ordered their little cheesecake donuts and they came out at the perfect temperature. There are so many other things on the menu I definitely want to try and cannot wait to come back in the future.!

THIS was a highlight worth waiting for! Incredible choices that never cease to live up to and exceed expectation. Fun, friendly, fast and attentive service- even when packed. We'll never miss an opportunity to stop here when in Salem even again. So quaint and charming!

We absolutely loved Red's. It's got that classic diner vibe and the friendliest staff. The food was excellent, exactly what you want for a cozy breakfast or lunch. It's a little off the main drag in Salem, so you might miss some of the heavy tourist crowds. We came in the off season and were seated right away. Highly recommend for a delicious breakfast, a hot cup of coffee, and genuinely warm service.

Hi - what is the typical wait/crowd on a weekday morning (mid-Sep.) around 9 or 10am? Wondering if I'll be kicking myself for arriving at 10am and having to wait...

The typical wait times vary in the day and how many tourists in town etc but Red’s moves very quick even if there is a wait. You get great food, an awesome experience, and on your way.

I have friends visiting town and really want to bring them to Red's but one has a small service animal... does reds allow that?

    Yes, you can

How long is the wait during Halloween weekend usually? I see there is no reservations so I am just trying to plan accordingly. Thanks!

The city is absolutely crazy then, and filled with crowds. I would think the line would run down the street...

Can you get breakfast for lunch?

    Yes

Not very tourist friendly because we're all trying to figure out where we're going and looking at GPS and not even noticing that in dark letters on the sign it says there's a parking in the back that you don't notice until you've already found parking on a side street. Just a bit frustrating but not much to be done about it. I got a hot chocolate and it was fine, just a standard diner-like hot chocolate. Then the burrito came and although it was supposed to have cheese and chorizo in it, all I tasted was beans and pico de gallo. Barely tasted the eggs. It was HUGE also and the beans are filling so I couldn't finish it but I was just disappointed in the lack of balance in the flavors. I will say the apple cinnamon waffles were fantastic. The crumble on the top was my favorite part. I would just get that next time. I tried my mom's eggs benedict and did not like the hollandaise so I'm glad I didn't get that, I think the waffles might be their specialty.

I had my wedding here in May, so this will be a long but all encompassing review of all different…read moreaspects of the Hawthorne. When I was looking for venues, I wanted all inclusive and one location. I spoke with Christine Madigan via email and then over the phone. She assured me that the Hawthorne did weddings well. We booked, signed contracts, set up a room block and everything. The room block: 3/5 stars I originally worked with Beth who set everything up for me and then was transferred to Rob as positions changed. I initially had 15 rooms in my block which we filled pretty quickly, but I saved one for my husbands grandmother so she could stay onsite. She called to book a room and was told there were no rooms. There were rooms so I called and spoke with Rob because she was pretty upset. He assured me we had rooms and for grandma to call him directly. Evidently the folks at the front desk didn't understand how the room block was intended to work. This happened over and over and over again. I really wish they would have set it up so my guests could book online because I heard from nearly half of my guests that either they couldn't get the days we were promised or the room type they wanted. I even had 3 couples stay at another hotel because of this so Hawthorne lost out on money because they couldn't get their booking system organized. One of my couples ended up in a room with a TWIN BED for 2 people. How is that even possible? Meanwhile I had a single person in a room with 2 queen beds and 2 bathrooms? Like I get accommodating people's requests, but a little critical thinking and communication would have gone a long way for comfort here. I doubt those people will come back to this hotel for this reason, which is sad because its such a lovely place. The menu tasting: 5/5 stars We were invited to a tasting of hors d'oeuvres, dinner selections, wine, cocktails and wedding cake. It was amazing to be able to sample items we wanted to serve without doing so blindly. Their food is phenomenal so we were excited to be able to share this with our guests. Wedding planning: 5/5 stars I received packets of information before booking Hawthorne as my venue, so I was aware of the pricing up front. I was even able to create a quote using their pricing sheet so nothing was a surprise. Christine was available to answer all of my questions throughout the process. As we got closer, she gave us homework to complete so we were ready for our big day. We created a signature mocktail, filled out place cards, went over our timeline, dropped off welcome bags, etc. Everything leading up to our wedding day (outside of booking guest rooms) was super smooth and easy. Pretty much everything was provided by the venue. I only had to book a photographer, content creator, photo booth, DJ and HMU on my own. The rest was handled for me which really made things so much smoother. We ended up well under budget, too! Wedding day: 3.5/5 stars If I could go back, I would hire a dedicated day of coordinator who worked specifically for me and not the venue. Christine was great, and did her job well, but she wasn't dedicated to me the entirety of the evening. And she and my mom were butting heads over things we were promised and not delivered. My mom did my wedding florals. We asked in advance if we could have refrigerator space and a private room to set up in. We were told we could have both, and on the day of, there was magically no fridge space, access to water, or a secure room to work in. It was extremely frustrating to be promised things and then not have those promises fulfilled. We were able to pivot and adapt, but that added so much stress to me on a day where I should not have added stress. The room she was working in was also being used as storage for a wedding the following weekend. The hotel has tons of space so I'm not sure why it had to be there but it seemed at that point it was a battle of wills more than anything. My photo booth company arrived right at the time we were about to start our ceremony, which was planned in advance, but the way the rooms were set up he ended up being in the lobby. This turned out to be really fun for wedding guests and random hotel guests to watch, but it was a bit awkward at first. Some of the items we brought for our reception were not brought down and we had to track people down to retrieve those. There was a room upstairs that was dedicated for us to hide away in and eat our appetizers, but I wanted to be with my guests and the appetizers never made it to me and my husband so I was told they were good but I didn't get to try them all. Dinner was absolutely amazing. However, I heard SO MANY complaints afterward about our bartender. I guess he was rude, and terrible at making drinks and when people tried to go to the other bar they got turned away. Overall I had the best day ever and would do it over again with a few tweaks :)

I loved the lemonade in the lobby. Bonus: free parking. Here's the kicker... I accidentally made the reservation for the day prior, so we didn't have one when we got there (we were on a 10 night trip in 5 different hotels so things got scrambled). To make a long story short they found us a mostly comparable room and credited the charges for the previous vacant night. That's pretty amazing and basically saved this working-class family's vacation from being a downer.
