Official mascot kitty, appreciates brisket bites

The brisket yesterday at Reese Bros in SA was better, but this brisket is awesome, just not enough bark and smoke for me. But the infusion of Mexican culture with tacos, tamales, and fresh salsa, and great people more than made up for it. Definitely worth a stop when you're in the area or passing through on I-35.

    Dried Brisket

Really disappointed. The brisket was so dry and already oxidized by the time it was served. You can tell they cut the strips long before it was served. The ribs and pulled pork were ok nothing special. The only reason i'm giving this a 2 and not a 1 is because the cream corn was good. It took so long to get the food ready which shouldn't be the case because everything is cooked already just needs to served. Rudys is much better which if you know, is a mid tier bbq place. The location itself was basically a junk yard which was really weird. Overall would not recommend. For advice, you need a holding oven to hold your briskets at the proper temperature and only cut the strips right before serving because exposing them to air dries them out.

The three of us ordered the pulled pork sandwiches. They were juicy and packed with a lot of meat. Very yummy.

Amazing service, super friendly. Reasonable prices and muy delicioso! Do yourself a favor and try their BBQ but please save me some!!! Definitely a hidden gem!

Ribs were unbelievably juicy!! Fall-off-the-bone goodness.

Hidden in the cusp of Pflugerville is this absolute GEM of a barbecue truck. The brisket, ribs and breakfast tacos were absolutely amazing. What really makes this such a great restaurant is how sweet the owner and daughter were. They are truly genuine and love what they do - and it clearly shows! I highly recommend this place and am tempted to host a party JUST so I can have them cater it. I'm definitely going back and highly recommend.

Y'all it's goooooood. The owners a kind and so appreciative. We got the family pack #1: 2 lbs of meat and 2 pint sides. Got sausage which was normal. Chicken which was sooo good and smoked. And the brisket was pretty damn good. Potatoes salad was excellent. Green Beans were great too.

The food here is mind-blowing. Brisket is so nice and fatty. Cream corn, potato salad, and baked potato with brisket are all amazing. Kudos to the chef. Worth the wait, trust me (mine was about 10 min).

Food wasn't that great. Dry. Bbq sauce was not a good flavor. You need cash. They have an ATM on site.

However the great pitmaster, John Brotherton, who made Brotherton's Black Iron Barbecue a legendary place passed away a year ago. He was only 49. His death was sudden and shocking. When a master chef dies, It is usually very hard to his or her restaurant to recover. Brotherton's has taken a serious serious loss. * * * 1) The brisket that was once exceptionally tasty now does not taste like much. 2) Ribs that were highly regarded are now nothing special. 3) I can't say whether the pitmaster was responsible for the sides. However the tater tot casserole has become unpleasant. The beans don't have anything to them. * * * Fortunately I was with charming and absolutely delightful company. What started as a joke about the name "Porky-Jo's" eventually became Pok-e-Jo's, and in 1979 the first restaurant opened on North Burnet Road with a mission to serve authentic, satisfying Texas barbecue. The atmosphere is casual, welcoming, and unpretentious, with the kind of comfort that comes from a place focused more on barbecue. The menu covers all the Texas staples...brisket, ribs, sausage, and pulled pork...served in generous portions alongside traditional sides like potato salad, mac and cheese, fried okra, and baked potato casserole. Since our trip is close, we decided not to cook to avoid leftovers. We ordered ribs and chicken that were flavorful and tender. Our sides included potato salad (a bit bland), broccoli salad (delicious), fruit (fresh), blonde brownies with nuts and chocolate chips (excellent). The meal also came with Texas toast. The Pok-e-Jo's staff was friendly and helpful. It has been a minute since we have eaten at Pok-e-Jo's BBQ. Good experience...we will keep them in mind in the future.

It doesn't look like much, but it is certainly a destination. It is the smells of smoked barbecue that gently waft over Manor. It is a reminder that we live in Texas where smoked meat is a thing. I took pictures of signs and their outdoor seating arrangements as well as their drive-through. Then, I went inside and took a look around. I was met by a small crowd and very busy cooks behind the counter. I took some pictures and finally got to meet the staff. They are very polite, and greeted me with a smile and asked me what I wanted to order. I couldn't make up my mind, but I did ask a lot of questions to get an idea how to position their advertising. So much to choose from. It sounds to me that this is the type of place where you order- pick up and go on a picnic or bring to your home to feed the masses. That was my take away; A picnic table, bench, and a broad selection of meats. You can't beat the prices here either. For the same price of going to McDonald's, you can order A better tasting meal. I prefer supporting our local businesses so that they can remain here and serve the loyal customer base. To be honest, I didn't order anything. But I did see the range of food that they do serve and they do very well for the selections. The food here sounds to be very consistent. I plan on coming back and having a sit down with Gary who is the owner there. He's a pretty neat guy from what I hear.

I came in near closing on a rainy night and they took extra time to make me a perfect plate. I even ordered an extra brisket sandwich to go which they took the time to trim the fat off if you desired. The meats definitely carried a strong unmistakable Smokey taste. The sauce was very peppery so you might want to sample that first before fully committing.

Late posting this review. I've been here twice with my husband now (recent visit was this past…read moreSaturday). I only have pictures from our first visit, but the second time around I got the fried pork belly fried rice as my side to go with the pork ribs. The pork ribs are moist, tender, and fall-off-the-bone delicious! On my first visit, I got the potato salad as my side. It was okay, just not as flavorful as I personally like -- but everyone has their own preference when it comes to potato salad. I ended up adding a little extra seasoning to mine, which is why I decided to try a different side the second time around. The pork belly fried rice paired really well with the ribs! The BBQ sauce could use a little more flavor in my opinion, and the portion they give is pretty small, so I ended up adding some of my own sauce. But the pickled onions and pickles on the side? SO good. Especially the onions -- they had such a distinct flavor that I could honestly eat them by themselves. They reminded me of the pickled veggies you get on a bánh mì sandwich, just without being overly vinegary. Honestly, if they ever made a brisket bánh mì sandwich using those pickled onions and veggies, it would probably be amazing! My husband always gets the brisket sandwich and loves the onions and pickles with it too. The location is tucked away down a small, rough-looking road near some duplexes. Our first time coming, we almost turned around because we were in my husband's coupe, but the second visit we took my SUV instead. Don't let the road scare you away though -- the food is worth it. The staff was friendly and helpful both times we visited. The location is also super convenient for us since we live nearby. Definitely happy we found this spot!

First, let's talk about the location. It's tucked down a bumpy road between two duplex apartments. It sounds a little sketchy, but trust me, it is so worth it (definitely drive your truck or SUV if you have one!). This place is a true hidden gem. They have a dope setup with covered outdoor seating if you want to chill and eat there, but we ended up taking ours to go. Now, for the food. I ordered the 1 Meat Brisket Plate, which comes with a side, sauce, and pickles/pickled onions. Bro... that brisket was like butter. I know "tenderism" is trending all over social media right now, but this right here is the real deal!! It was so incredibly soft. For my side, I got the potato salad. To be honest, it was a little bland on its own, but it actually worked as a nice, solid base for me to hook it up my own way once I got home. Overall, Smoky Buns is a dope spot and easily hands-down the best BBQ in Central Texas!!!! I will absolutely be back.
