I had an epiphany while I was shopping at H-E-B this afternoon. Decided instead of trying to buy items for dinner, I'd stop by True Texas Barbecue restaurant that is connected to H-E-B and bring home already made brisket dinner. Danielle was a huge help and helping me deciding what to order. There's so much on the menu that I didn't even know how to respond to it. I guess the thing in Texas is to know how much pounds of meat one would eat and n a meal. If I were a football player or a bodybuilder that would make sense. I am not. From what I gather, 3/4 of a pound or 1 pound of meat is adequate for two people. It all depends on how much fat you like on your brisket. So I ordered three-quarter pound with fat and a quarter pound of lean barbecue brisket. That should give me plenty of options. Barbecue is expensive, so know what you like before ordering. It's not like ordering a hamburger. Anyways, it's a very clean atmosphere. They have a big screen TV and plenty of places to sit down and sit your butt and eat your hearts out. If you have been to a H-E-B True Texas BBQ restaurant at one of their stores it's not that amazing of BBQ. Sorry H-E-B, my opinion this is more like a fast food BBQ. I will state this is my first one where I have enjoyed the food and it was warm to eat but not really fresh still. Presentation of the food looked so amazingly delicious. The service was fast and we used the kiosk to order. Honestly using the kiosk felt faster, but you're pretty much self check out when your using the Kiosks and you will need to requests the cups while you wait for your food or you can wait for your food to get your drinks. Plenty of fountain drink options, and beer tap options. The one thing about this location is there is only one uni-sex bathroom and the main restrooms are across the other side of the store down aisle 32. Overall, this place left a great impression compared to the rest of the True Texas BBQs I have tried. This so far the best one in my opinion. read more

picked up a few side items to try and make life easy. i've heard good things about this place but I wasn't too impressed. creamed corn tasted like canned corn in a bowl of mayo. potato salad was very underwhelming and missing that classic taste- not sure if it was just seasoning that was missed or what. the only semi decent thing was the blueberry cobbler but it was potentially something you can find in the frozen isle and bake at home for the same price. i've tried all 3 things at different times and not sure i'd spend money on anything from here in the future. read more

Stopped by on a Monday night, and not a lot of tables were taken. I initially wanted to try the ribs and the cornbread, but both were out of stock, so if you wanted some of the more in-demand items, lunch may be a safer time to visit. I ordered off the kiosk and the small customizations I made weren't done: no pickles and onions and sweet bbq sauce instead of the spicy bbq sauce. But overall not a big deal. I got the two meat platter with fatty brisket and sausages and sides of mac n cheese, potato salad, beans, fried okra, and collard greens. The brisket was pretty good. Not top tier bbq good, but very tender and tasty for a easy access bbq restaurant. The sides were all good as well. Not fancy or elevated, but they were very solid with a nice, nostalgic old-school cafeteria style flavors with high quality. There was 6 cars in front of me so I placed order on line. was stuck where i was forced to wait in drive thru lane. Went for lunch on 11/19/24. The line was a few deep and moved a little slow. They have counter people to take your order or touch screens which I used and it was easy and very quick. The food came out about 10 minutes later and was hot and fresh. They have 4 TVs to keep your eyes busy while you wait. I have eaten bbq 100s of times over the years and thought this was as good as any. I got just a 1 meat(brisket) and mac and cheese with onion rings. Loved all of it. The onion rings were amazing and not the typical frozen type many restaurants tend to use. Going back on Friday for more good stuff. read more

First time I tried the True Texas BBQ brisket sandwich I was very impressed. The second time I opted for the Txas Size brisket sandwhich and the brisket was good but the bun was stale. Today was my third and final visit. Again I ordered the Texas size brisket sandwhich. The bun was stale and completely flat and the brisket was not sliced, just big hunks of dry brisket. Staff are friendly and patient, even when things got busy. Turkey was delicious and moist, so full of flavor! I honestly couldn't believe it. Brisket was pretty good. We got the fatty kind and the fat layers were substantial. Good flavor. Brisket chili was okay. Flavor was top notch, but brisket chunks in chili were cut too large. Brisket beans were so very delicious. Collard greens were pretty good - slightly muted flavor which worked against all the other flavors across other items. Mac & cheese was outstanding. When you come to Central Texas, there's only one grocery store you need to know about: H-E-B. They do so many things so well, including their private label store brands. This extends to their in-store restaurants. I was shopping at the new store in Pflugerville and stopped in for a bite at True Texas BBQ. For an in-store outlet it's pretty impressive with a huge dining room and a counter with eight craft or local beers on tap. They have a pretty wide ranging menu and while I can't attest to all of the items, the barbecue that I tried was excellent. I got the one meat plate and received a decent portion of moist brisket along with brisket beans, and collard greens. The brisket was good with a beautiful smoke ring. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but considering this is a fast food outlet it really stands out and is better than some standalone restaurants. One thing that was a surprise was the beans with big chunks of their brisket and a very nicely spiced bean concoction. The collard greens were OK but probably not better than what you might find at Cracker Barrel. The service here is friendly as you'd expect from H-E-B and I didn't have to wait long for my food. Overall, the value for the price is outstanding. This is definitely a great stop for a quick lunch or dinner, especially if you have to go pick up some groceries. Highly recommended. read more

Went through the drive thru around 4pm since I had my 4 & 1yo. The drive thru was 3 cars deep when we pulled in line. Ordering was easy and quick. They were out of sausage (bummer for my kids). We got the 3 meat plate (ribs, fatty brisket, and turkey breast) with Mac n cheese & bbq beans. I also ordered a small coleslaw for myself. The wait after ordering was about 15mins... my 1yo was getting hangry. Good temp on food by the time we got home in VOHL. The dry rub seasoning on the outside of all 3 meats was yum! The ribs were cut thick and had a sweetness to them. The brisket meat itself without the rub was a little bland but so moist and tender. The turkey... y'all! So juicy and moist and flavorful! I was surprised! I definitely go back for the turkey and ribs! The Mac n cheese was cheesy and my kids devoured it. The beans were on the savory side and had a tomato-y flavor (like pace picante) to them versus a bbq brown sugar. My kids enjoyed the beans too! The coleslaw was crunchy, light, sweet, and creamy. Strong celery seed flavor, which I like! My son loved the pickles. The raw onion slices they gave me looked old, like they'd been sitting out all day. Came with two slices of white bread. Their spicy bbq sauce was also very good. Not really spicy, good flavor tho. The sweet sauce was underwhelming. Meat is fine, sides are not great. We went and they were out of corn, ribs and nachos. It's dark inside which makes it a bit hard to see. All in all it is BBQ and it is fine, but you'd be better off going somewhere else or only purchasing meats. read more

As I live close by, I have dined here a few times for convenience. I have found the sausage to be chewy and rubbery, seemingly merely heated on the griddle, lacking the crispy texture from a flame broil or char grilled sausage. The bisket, and pork sandwhiches were only average at best. Best thing about the place is the amazing aroma that brings the unfulfilled promise of a great meal. Sides are decent and the service staff is top notch. There are better options nearby. A fellow diner questioned that given its HEB, where they make their own tortillas, why tacos are not an offer on the menu. read more

Oh man. I hate to say this, but if I'm sitting or standing in a line for an hour and I get less than subpar food it's already a no go. This location just opened on the 13th of November, and pflugerville is already overwhelming for me. I stopped in because I was in the area (I live half a mile from my local HEB and it's my tried and true OG as a non native Texan), and was like I'll try this place since it's new and I'm in the mood for bbq. NEVER AGAIN. The space is massive and has a lot going on. I met people who are going in just to learn the store layout, not for shopping! It was too much for me. I saw some cool home items but the prices for them were insane. They are trying to be a superstore (not the same as the HEB Plus! stores I've been to many times). The people who were standing in line inside the restaurant clearly wanted to try it out because why not? I did too. I sat in the drive thru for an hour to receive the absolute worst bbq I've ever tried!! Over expensive, time consuming, and also the entire experience of that HEB needs to chill out and make things a little bit better for the consumer. I'm sure the lines will go down after people experience their food. I got so sick and I will not be back to eat there. This is for the entire HEB not just the restaurant, but it was so confusing, stressful, and time consuming that is not worth it. I might not be from TX, but I do know good BBQ. Maybe over time it will get better, but plan your trips accordingly to the busy times because it is massive. And I had made my 10,000 steps just for being in the store for an hour!!! This was because I was told my an employee that the drive thru was closed so I spent extra money and time here. SMH. HEB is getting more and more greedy. read more

I have given it 3 tries and unfortunately the bbq at this location is not good. It is dry every time and the hot sides have been cold. Twice they have forgotten my items in my order. The first time they put my name on a list to replace the two sides but after the second time I felt more could have been done. I drove out of my way to try this place so putting my name on a list to replace $7 worth of items on a return visit when I spent more than an hour commuting to this location was not worth it. read more

Brand new and already sucks. What's up with that? You would think they would pull out all the stops to serve up quality food but nope! The brisket was tough and the ribs were undercooked. Ribs should have been fall off the bone meat, but you had to attack it like a dog to get the meat off. I ordered a sliced beef sandwich, and I got a very cold bun with lukewarm meat. Yuck. My companion had a baked potato only and they just put a pat of butter with a blob of cold cheese. Have you ever had a baked potato with un-melted cold cheese on top. Yuck. Overall, wow.
