I went to the dentist and now I'm pretty sure I need therapy.  If you've ever thought, "What if my dental care had the consistency and staffing model of a correctional facility?" good news. Redwood Dental is here for you. I've been five times. I've met four dentists. At this point I'm expecting a punch card. One more visit and I get a free root canal. Visit 1: Dentist #1, Hygienist #1. I hadn't been in about a year, so I expected some consequences. They tell me I have three cavities. Three felt like... a strong opening bid, but okay. I take responsibility for, what I assumed, were my life choices, but in retrospect I question, and schedule the follow-up. Visit 2: Dentist #2, same hygienist.I New dentist, no explanation. Cavities get filled, and suddenly I'm being pitched a "protective coating" for my teeth. A coating. For my teeth. At this point I'm wondering if I accidentally brought my car in instead of my mouth. "Your molars are looking a little dull, we can ceramic those for you." but they're the experts and I need to be able to smile for selfies with my three-year-old, so sure. I guess we're going with the full rust protection.  Visit 3: Dentist #3, same hygienist. Now I'm told my fillings are "showing wear" and we should proactively remove and replace them. Wait? What? Didn't I just get the rust coating? He clarifies that nothing is broken. Nothing hurts. We're just... preemptively rebuilding my mouth like it's a condo that needs to stay market-ready at all times. This is when it clicked: this isn't dentistry. This is the PG&E of teeth always there to tell me I owe them more money as though their doing me a favor. I go home, compare notes with my wife, who, shockingly, is also getting exact same upsell experience, and we both decide it's time to find a new dentist. Visit 4: We forgot to cancel our appointments and learn there's a last minute $100 cancellation fee. For a dentist. Nothing says "healthcare provider" like a policy that feels like a gym membership you can't escape. Then, plot twist, they call us the day before to reschedule because of staffing issues. So just to recap: if I cancel, it's $100. If they cancel, it's... fine. My wife, who is a better person than I am, agrees to reschedule. I begin emotionally preparing for what I assume will be the final chapter. Visit 5: Dentist #4, Hygienist #2. And here we are, folks, we've reached the final boss level. New hygienist calls my name and then blocks the doorway so I have to squeeze past her like I'm entering a speakeasy for dental trauma. Cool start. Dentist comes in, calmly repeats previous recommendations, and confirms, this is key, nothing has actually changed with my teeth. Amazing. Love consistency. Not paying $600 to fix a problem that doesn't exist. Then the cleaning begins. And I want to be clear here: I've had dental work. Orthodontia. Oral surgery. I'm not new to this. This was different. This felt like my mouth got caught in a car wash that had recently developed anger issues. The suction tube? Constantly at the back of my throat and jabbing me as though it had a personal vendetta. Water? Everywhere. At several points I get blasted hard enough that it goes up my nose and down my neck. I left the dentist's office... wet. I have never, in my life, needed a towel after a cleaning, but this is the part I guess, where I should have kept my hands inside the ride for my own safety. Through out it all, the hygienist, armed with the suction tubes is casually glancing around, lightly dancing to the music like she's cleaning a kitchen, not performing a procedure inside a human being. Then the polish. Bubblegum paste. On my face. Up my nose. I'm essentially being frosted like a cupcake. Then flossing, with long acrylic nails. I'm getting stabbed, gums bleeding, just trying to survive the experience with whatever dignity I have left. At no point did this feel like healthcare. This felt like I owed someone money. When she says, "Run your tongue along your teeth and see how it feels," I stand up and leave like I just experienced something I need to report to cps. I don't know who hurt you, lady, but I've seen TSA Agents with a better bedside manner. Truly thankful that no one handed you anything sharper than a rubber tipped polisher, because there'd be a me shaped hole in the wall that I'd likely have been charged for. We're done. We're not going back. And if you value your mouth or better if you have loved ones who care about you... you should consider alternatives. Note: I just want to add here that the recepionist and the hygienist I had for the first few visits were great at what they do. So while I obviously had a pretty terrible experience there were of course some exceptions for which I am grateful. read more

Terrible Experience - Would Not Recommend Redwood Dental I strongly advise against using Redwood Dental Practice. My experience there was a complete nightmare, and I am still dealing with the consequences. I have serious concerns about their billing practices and the quality of their work, which has caused me ongoing pain and frustration. I initially signed up with Delta Care, which Redwood Dental accepted as my provider. During my first appointment for a cleaning, I had X-rays and was told I needed fillings. The next appointment was with a secondary dentist on staff, who filled the cavity. Shortly after, I experienced pain and sensitivity in that tooth for nearly a month. Despite multiple visits, the issue persisted. Each time, the same dentist examined the tooth, claiming it was a bite issue or that the filling had failed. During one appointment, the dentist seemed distracted and made comments criticizing the office and expressing a desire to be a lawyer. The assisting nurse commented that the remarks were both inappropriate and concerning. The dentist became confrontational, and the situation escalated to the point where she threatened to fight a nurse outside the room. Dr. Evangelista, the primary dentist, eventually came in, apologized, and agreed to redo the filling. He proceeded to do so again at no charge. Despite this effort, the sensitivity continued. Dr. Evangelista then told me that the new filling was too close to the nerve and that I would need a crown, estimated at over $2,000. I sought a second opinion, and the other dentist immediately identified a simple hole that just needed a filling, which cost only $420. Additionally, the bill from Redwood included a $500 fee for a "Marg.shd.mat.warrenty"--a charge I do not understand--and other fees that seem questionable. Overall, my experience with Redwood Dental was deeply disappointing and unprofessional. I cannot recommend this practice and suggest seeking dental care elsewhere. read more

Be warned, refunds do not happen here. I have been waiting since March for a refund due to overcharges. They didn't even tell me I had credit until I started investigating my billing due to what my insurance sent. I have emailed, and in March Tanya assured me it would take 10 weeks to process and send the check. I sent a follow up email in April and Tanya said she would reach out to the accountant to confirm that the check was sent. I then emailed a follow up and she didn't follow up, and then sent another follow up and it feels like they are avoiding me, but had no problem wanting to schedule another appointment which I haven't rescheduled as I no longer trust this business. I called the office and they said they would email Tanya and that she is the only contact for billing questions. I have read other reviews where refunds didn't happen. If you want to go here, have a preliminary bill sent to insurance before getting work done. They over charged me over $300 and have yet to give it back. I'm thinking I may have to go to small claims court as I do not like to be bullied. read more

this place is a disaster do not go here! i was a patient for about 2 years. they switched management and dentists twice while i was here. they are closed on fridays and close at 4. i had at least 3 appointments for cleanings that they canceled the day of or told me when i arrived at the office that they wouldn't be able to see me. i ordered a retainer from them and it took me 3 MONTHS to get this retainer and get an appointment for them to 'check it'. they wouldn't let me just pick up the retainer i had to schedule an appointment, and at that appointment they didn't even check the fit of the retainer just gave me the box and instructions on how to put it in. they also text you a confirmation to confirm your appointment and give you the chance to reschedule over text but the person that manages the texts and the receptionist aren't the same person so your rescheduled appointment over text doesn't actually get rescheduled. they also never answer their phone!!! because you have to call to reschedule i've called so many times they never answer when i initially call and then their call back is 15 minutes before they close for the weekend. once you actually get an appointment that they don't cancel the staff is fine no issues with rudeness or anything but this is after they've canceled your appointment twice and they have to schedule you out a month and a half. read more

Worst experience with a dentist I've ever had! I moved to Napa in 2022 and went to this 3 times over the course of 2.5 years for routine cleanings, etc. Each time I went, the entire staff was different-- including dentist, hygienists, and admin staff. Each time service was unprofessional, including borderline toxic interactions between admin staff and the dentists, hour+ wait times for appointments, very poor quality care, etc. The most recent time I went (August 2024) was the last straw. It was yet another entirely new staff and new dentist since the last time I went, and I needed some fillings. I have had multiple fillings in the past with no issues. Someone named Dr. Shah did the fillings, including replacing an old one because it was "bad". It took 2+ hours (longest time it's ever taken to get two fillings), and multiple times during the procedure he would just sit there staring at my teeth for 10 minutes, which made me extremely nervous because I wasn't sure if he knew what he was doing. My face swelled afterwards, which has never happened before. Afterwards for many weeks, the tooth that had the filling replaced was still really sensitive, such that I couldn't chew on the left side of my mouth. I went in a few months later (Oct) to see if there was an issue, and yet another new dentist saw me. She adjusted the bite, but said that sensitivity could last up to TWO YEARS, which seemed absurd. At this point, I was so fed up with this dentist and worried that they messed up my tooth that I switched to my husband's dental insurance in order to switch to his dentist, which he had a good experience with. In March 2025 (7 months later), I still can't chew on the left side of my mouth. Avoid this dentist at all costs! Also, any good reviews about Dr. Nelson and Dr. Haddad no longer apply. Apparently this business used to be owned by Dr. Nelson but she sold it, and I'm pretty sure Dr. Haddad is no longer there. This place is abysmal. read more

I have had good experiences with Redwood Dental. The most recent involved a confusing billing situation that Regina (office manager) was super helpful in untangling. Regina did background research and dug through billing details to arrive at a satisfying result that had been difficult to achieve due to my dental insurance slow-rolling the case. I am so happy with Dr. Mike! He is an absolute artist and what he did to my three front teeth has me blown away! I couldn't stop laughing out of joy when he showed me the completed results! My teeth look like when I was 20 years old! Dentists are expensive...that is no lie And no exception here but what he did to my front teeth was worth what I paid for that and my crown! I am so happy! I don't usually leave bad reviews but feel I need to because of the service I received. I went in as a new patient and was told I wouldn't be charged for x-rays but when I received the EOB from my insurance I sure was -- and when I asked them about it they said they didn't submit the charges (yeah right -- who did, the office ghost?!?) Then after talking to another dentist, I realize the estimate they gave me for work to be done contained numerous bogus charges. There are some people who don't mind going to the dentist and then there are people like me, who are absolutely terrified of every visit. It's taken me years to finally find a dentist office whom I can trust and know that I am in great hands. Dr.Mike is the best dentist I have ever encountered! He is gentle, kind, explains what he is doing in great detail, and meticulous in his work. I have had some pretty gnarly procedures (my fault for not going regularly- that will change!) and he has handled my situations with grace and professionalism. I have had teeth saved that I thought were goners. The dental assistants are kind and very skilled. The front office ladies are warm and caring. I am still going the first bridge took 6 months they charged 7 000.00 They couldn't get it right I had to go to another dentist to correct The bridge. Cost another 1800.00 .. after two mouths bridge broke that's not end they charged 5000.00 for new bridge after mouths still on going because they last the doctor they brought new one . This was to be my first time seeing this Dentist so really should leave this for the receptionist! First was very sweet and chipper. Sent me a four page questioner to fill out and return at visit. OK, then came directions which were terrible but included suite 3. Living in this city for forty years, and armed with an iPhone and Navigation in my car I figured how bad can it be? I arrived in the general area about fifteen minutes early. found suite 1,2,4,5 no 3 eek asked around, no clue. Walked around. Drove around. Tried to call the office 3 times. All three immediately cutoff and told to wait. Could not get one word in. so I waited and waited and waited. At 3:15 (15 past my appointment and had been there half an hour) I left for home. She calls me on my way home wondering where I am and claims she was tending to another patient and had told me it would be about ten minuites to please wait!!! This was a total lie!!! Do not believe the 5-star reviews. I showed up on time and, per their stated Covid protocol, called from the parking lot to tell them that I had arrived. My call went to voice mail, so I left a message. They did not call me back until 75 minutes later--not a typo, that's 1 hr 15 minutes later. By that time, I had made an appointment with a different dentist and left. The woman who called me had a tone that not apologetic, as I would have expected, but indignant, asking me what happened, as if I had forgotten my appointment. At first, she denied having received a voice mail. Normally, I would have hung up at that point and moved on, but I waited for her to check the voice mail. Lo and behold, there was my voicemail, with a timestamp from the exact time that I was supposed to show up. I guess you can't know someone called if you never check your voicemail. The woman asked me if I wanted to reschedule. I told her that there was no need to reschedule because I didn't want to do business with someone who manages their front desk so poorly, that as a customer, I expect my phone calls to be answered. She didn't seem to understand that there are so many dentists out there, it's very easy for consumers to simply move on to the next one. read more

I experienced all of the bad experiences referenced by the other 1 star reviewers. Like reviewer Lew, I am (was) a 20 + year patient. But Dr. Nelsen recently sold the firm, and the new front office is abysmal. For the past several years, I have only been serviced by DDS Haddad, but the front office charges my Delta Dental insurance as serviced by Dr. Nelsen, who is reimbursed at a higher rate. Since I pay 1/2 of the charge, I'm paying that higher rate as well, and the office manager told me "that's just the way we do it". Delta Dental is investigating. read more

The office is beautiful and the staff are amazing. They know me and really seem to care about my wellbeing. Normally I would be giving 5 stars but since Dr. Nelson sold his business I feel that it has gone down hill. I've been a patient for over 25 years and I'm at the point where I'm tried of being over charged then having to beg to have them fix it. I have an insurance where they agree to a fixed price and they pay what they do and I pay the rest. Since the new owners They over charge me and fix it later after billing makes their adjustments. Now if this is how it was done before I'd say ok but I've never been over charged so much since this new group. Doctor Mike Haddad and his team have taken extremely good care of me over the last 3 years. I had a family dentist when I was younger and then was on my own for a few years, using who was recommended through my employers... I found myself in a position where some important things had been neglected and I needed to have a lot of work done. They worked to help me get it covered through both the insurance covered by my job and my insurance covered by my wife's job. This allowed me to get a lot of work done in a short amount of time. From the young ladies at the front desk to the dental hygienist to any dentist who I spoke with in the office oh, everyone was extremely professional, helpful and understanding. I could not have asked for a better experience oh, and that's coming from someone who really didn't have a very good opinion of my previous dentist. That's office reinforced what I knew-- that it was possible to provide far superior dental service than what I was getting in years past. Now we have moved and I'll be looking for a dentist in my new area near Auburn California. I can only hope that I can find somebody nearly as good as Dr. Mike. read more
