A San Francisco icon. The Redwood Room is a legendary cocktail lounge located inside The Cliff Hotel in San Francisco. It is an absolutely, stunningly beautiful room, walls and a massive bar carved from a single redwood tree, dark wood paneling, vintage chandeliers, and restored Gustav Klimt-style art Very good drinks indeed! Coupled with excellent, attentive service. Thumbs Up' Atmosphere & History: * Opened on December 6, 1933--the day after Prohibition ended--becoming immediately iconic * Interior recently refreshed by Gensler and Philippe Starck, preserving its mid‑century charm in modern style * Frequently named among top U.S. hotel bars, praised for its architectural splendor and curated drink program An excellent experience! Don't miss the REDWOOD ROOM whenever you're in SF, and especially a great place for your pre- or post- theatre drink! Excellent and highly rexommended.

Rating based on service from bartenders. And drinks! Came in late around closing, the lounge seating and service was closed but the bartenders were very kind and accommodating to serve us even tho it was late. They are very knowledgeable in drinks. I got the lychee martini and it was great! U can bring the drinks up to ur room too if staying at the Sonesta.

It was a Thursday night when I walked into the Redwood Room at the Clift Hotel, and the first thing that hit me was the smell--rich wood, bourbon, that unmistakable San Francisco scent, both aged and timeless. The low, amber lighting cast long shadows across the dark wood, giving the room a feeling of something quietly important, yet effortlessly cool. The Patrick Wolff Quartet was blowing--sharp, melodic, alive. The sax cut through the air with a soulful urgency, the bass grounded everything with its deep thrum, and the piano was clean and crisp, adding layers that tied it all together. The sound was traditional, but fresh--alive in a way that made you forget the world outside. The staff is smooth, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, serving up hand-crafted cocktails that feel like a small event in themselves. You could easily slip into the rhythm of the place, whether you're meeting someone you haven't seen in years or striking up a conversation with someone new. The Redwood Room feels like the kind of spot where the night just unfolds, and you're right there in the moment.

    Cocktail Hour with my daughter!

With my daughter in tow, I made my triumphant return to the Redwood Room after fifteen years. The store is beautiful and actually restored to it's original splendor. The art work was in storage and replaced the digital arts that was unflattering. It's 6:00pm on a Friday night and we're the only patrons. Back in the day, the bar would have been 3 rows deep. Our lovely server offered her option the decline was post-COVID fallout. Nevertheless, we had a fantastic time!

Romantically dimmed bar in the hotel lobby of the Sonesta. I was staying in the hotel so this was very convenient. I tried the flatbread pizza and it was OK but the drinks were phenomenal. I came on a Thursday and vibed out to the live jazz band. I enjoyed myself so much, I came down the next evening and enjoyed the DJ playing some old school jams. Really enjoyed my stay too. Overall great experience.

The place is inside The Clift Hotel and it's a really nice lounge space with a lot of different types of seating. Went there for live jazz which they have every 1st and 3rd Wed (though I did hear they might change the schedule so tbd). The place was pretty empty probably because it was right after new years. Service was fast. Once one person in my party seated someone would come over with water. Ordered fries and a NA cocktail. I forgot what the cocktail was called but it was really nice and refreshing--chose the one that was a little bitter and sour (had lemon juice and egg whites). Fries were crispy. The acoustics in the place were a little too good since the live jazz sort of took up the whole space so sometimes when talking to someone directly across from you was a little difficult. It's a place with good vibes though so I think if you're in the area and it's a little chilly, it would be nice to pop in and get away from the cold.

Fantastic bar that emanates history and class. High ceilings, rich redwood paneling, original Gustav Klimt paintings, and elegant seating all heighten the experience. Drinks are excellent, and our waitress was friendly and attentive. There was a terrific live jazz ensemble when we were there on a Thursday evening. Definitely worth a visit!

To be honest, a pretty cozy spot for conversation. Big group friendly when it's not busy, so weekdays preferable. We had a group of 24 slowly trickle in and Redwood Room was accommodating in allowing us to shift a few seats around to engage in conversation with one another. Drinks can be on the pricier end for sure and it is a higher end spot, but you're also paying for the ambiance and location. For us, not everyone can accommodate a large party and that's important to consider when gauging the price as well. Drinks were also decently tasty, despite being alcoholic. Kentucky Mule - think alcoholic lemonade but now remove the taste of alcohol. It's very dissipated where I could believe it's sparkling lemonade or something, however you definitely feel the alcohol inside you. Great Moscow mule and the copper mug looks pretty neat too.

Saturday night I wanted to come down and get the special entertainment. I saw the advertising for it right away, and put it on my list of things to do. Unfortunately I was just so exhausted from walking around. There's no way I could take the extra steps To take the elevator to go downstairs. We did go on Sunday tho . It was not as lively . It's been 9 years since I posted my first 5 star review for the redwood room. I've been here many times when I lived here in the past decade. Now I came back to visit, it's still one of my favorite regardless how many more cool bars and lounges have come up in the area. I loved the library wall. Very sophisticated selection. I like to come early to sit at the bar when it's quiet. Always a nice chat with the bartenders on the drinks. Shoutout to Jackie and Ivan, the two bartenders for the bourbon and Mezcal tasting! It's a place that made San Francisco home for me no matter where I move.

Great drinks, love the redwood paneling inside the bar. Very art-deco inspired! Great for date night and getting away from the busy shopping mobs in Union Square. The endless summer was a sweeter drink, loved the strawberry notes. Perfect light drink. The big chair was a Manhattan, so typical gentleman's drink and strong. The best part is the cherries! I know it's just garnish, but these are amazing, not the typical bright red cherries with an artificial taste. These are dark cherries with a nice sweet undertone. So go try this spot for drinks!

    Martini flight night
    Glenda L.

Great service and atmosphere! Drinks and appetizers were delicious and moderately priced. I came to this lounge for a martini tasting flight event (featuring a specific brand of gin that the bar was partnering with.) When I arrived at 6pm, there were a good handful of tables available and by 7pm, the bar was nearly completely packed with people attending and not attending the event. The ambiance of the lounge is quite nice with the marble tables. Taking a date here for a cocktail or two would be really lovely! My friends and I also had a good laugh about how the top/bottom shelf spirits were organized (ie. Jäegermeister on the very top shelf, haha!) Our waitress said that the Redwood Room occasionally hosts special cocktail nights such as the one we were attending, and to look out for them in the future. We ended up having a great time sampling the different martinis and we all had found a new favorite martini. We had a few servers who provided truly excellent service- refilling water quickly and often, bar napkins with every drink, an explanation of each martini that was arriving. We later ordered some French fries and burger and both were delicious and very beautiful.

It's a very trendy and high class spot. If I lived in the area I wouldn't go often but we have made it a tradition to go once per trip. Good excuse to dress up and treat yourself.

Ube Cheesecake ($19) Wonderful dessert cocktail to finish the night. We didn't have time to try the Escape Room connected to the Speakeasy, but we'll be back! There are two rooms, one in the front with a puzzle theme, and another in the back with a Middle Earth (Lord of the Rings) vibe. Staff was friendly and took time to explain the clever menu to us!

Lore's Wonderland escape room was a fun and delightfully whimsical experience. **This review is…read moremainly for the escape room, as we did not order any additional drinks outside of the escape room.** THE SPACE // Lore Speakeasy and Escape Room has cool themed decor everywhere, from the dimly-lit speakeasy/bar room in front, to the Middle Earth/Lord of the Rings-themed board game room, to the individual bathrooms, and of course the escape room's multiple Alice in Wonderland-themed rooms. Clearly a lot of effort went into building these rooms and evoking a certain vibe for each. THE ESCAPE ROOM // The puzzles in the escape room varied in difficulty - some required us to think a bit more, some required our observational skills to work harder, and others required a light level of physical skill/movement. We were perplexed a few times but never got stuck for too long, as the White Rabbit (played by Phoenix, the live actor/puzzle master) would jump in occasionally to provide clues over the speaker or in person. It took us about 1 hr 20 min to finish the entire escape room; I thought the pacing was good. THE [ESCAPE ROOM] DRINKS // Lore's escape room experience comes with "a flight of themed cocktails or mocktails, including "potion"-style drinks that are integrated into the experience as you progress", per the website. We got to choose one cocktail/mocktail option (Korean Cold Noodles) from a list on the website, and the other two drinks are pre-selected to supposedly fit into the Wonderland theme, with the flavors described online as "berry" and "peach". You can get both cocktail and mocktails for your party, in case some people want alcohol and others don't. We all enjoyed the flavor of the Korean Cold Noodles cocktail, which was refreshing and surprisingly a bit minty in the mocktail version. However, we didn't like the two other two pre-selected themed drinks as much. The "berry" drink gave us cherry cough syrup vibes, and the cocktail version of it was quite strong. The "peach" mocktail drink reminded me of canned fruit syrup; we also were missing the two cocktail versions, though we decided not to ask for them as the mocktail version already was less than impressive. One other missed expectation here was the size of the drinks that we received in the escape room. We were expecting full-sized cocktails, like what they serve in the speakeasy in front. Instead, we found out that the drinks are served in small "vials". Given the size of the drinks in the escape room, combined with us not even enjoying two out of the three drinks, I would preferred to go through the escape room without the drinks at all, and likely pay a bit less for the escape room then. OVERALL // I'd still recommend the escape room as a good one-time experience with a date/friends/family. Just don't expect too much from the included themed drinks! The speakeasy drinks on the main menu do sound unique/tasty, so I might come back again to try those sometime.

The mushroom bahn mi sliders were amazing - the quality fillings and taste of the soft bun - I was unexpectedly hit with a bite of spice from maybe jalapeño seeds left but didn't sour my experience. The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.
