    Our party/private event cocktail menu
    Jen E.

Marianne's is absolutely fantastic. This review is based on a surprise private event that a friend hosted on November 4 for her husband's birthday. I flew to SF for 24 hours just for the event and I must say it was made it entirely worth it because of this fantastic venue and experience. The decor and vibe is just the right of intimate. There's a classy yet un-stuffy air about this spot. It's located just down the way from The Cavalier; I appreciated the separate, dedicated space. Most of all, I was so surprised how smoothly every ran, and the quality of drinks and food. Usually I've found parties in event spaces have a staff that is stilted, bored, just going through the motions of hosting yet another party...NOT the case here. The bartender was fantastic (I wish I had caught her name), handling the group with ease with her delicious cocktails, while staying chipper/friendly. She greeted me warmly upon arrival, showing me the special cocktail menu for the evening but also gesturing to the variety of other options should I prefer. I wasn't feeling well earlier that day so asked for guidance on a choice that wouldn't be harsh on my stomach, which she happily offered (the "Imperial G&T" was perfect)...just wonderful service. Passed food was also surprisingly good, despite what I was expecting with typical 'bar food' choices: french fry cups, onion rings, salmon ceviche tacos, smoked deviled airs, burger bites, even fried chicken nuggets that just tasted...like elevated comfort food. Platters were circulated broadly and consistently and we all went back for 2nds (and 3rds). Can I just say the other staff helping out that night, running out the food, bussing tables...they also were just as good as the bartender (especially the man who was especially courteous and friendly). Again didn't catch their names but would love for this feedback to be passed to them. Would absolutely return.

Came on a rainy chilly night after near by dinner. What a chill vibe. Low light chandeliers, candles on top of cherry wood tables and intimate tables for 2. Lots to look at in case your date is a bore. Fantastic drinks and enjoyed sitting at the bar since it was a full house. Make a ressie if coming! Speakeasy vibes located at the end of a random street, east to kiss u less you know

This place charges $25/PER PERSON as a cover charge/just to make a reservation! The fee does not go towards your total bill, which is absolutely absurd. The decor is cool, the room is small, the noise level is good for dates, but there's not much privacy. It's very open and you can easily stare at everyone else. The bartender is enthusiastic and nice, but the drinks have no pop. It's all classic drinks - manhattans, martinis, highballs. There seems to be an attempt at a twist, but there's nothing special, just, I assume - god, I at least HOPE - higher quality ingredients. This place is one of the WORST "speakeasy" cocktail experiences I've EVER had. At $22+/cocktail + $25 cover charge, you easily spend $150+ on a very lackluster and actually kind of infuriating experience. A total waste of money and time. There are so many other unpretentious bars in San Francisco that welcome with you open arms, I do not recommend this place AT ALL. Like, I'm actively telling people this place sucks.

This amazing lounge is adjacent to the Hotel Zetta and the restaurant The Cavalier. We had dinner at the Cavalier and were told about the lounge. The server literally took our drinks and walked us to the lounge. The ambience is sooooo chill. Music playing , dark lighting, it's a great place to have a drink. I can't remember exactly what my wife ordered for her drinks but she said they were great. Cool place to end a Saturday night before going back to our room. If you want a fast paced bar/lounge this isn't it, but if you want to chill and enjoy some drinks, definitely recommend this place. We definitely will be back next time we are in Frisco.

Let's be honest, who doesn't love a secret? Who doesn't love Speakeasies? I love secrets and I love secret bars even more, and SF is full of them. Marianne's is a hidden gem in the back of a restaurant, you literally enter through an Exit sign. You can check in at the restaurant or find the entrance on Jesse Street. They accept walk-in's but I recommend making reservations. They have amazing cocktails and delicious bites. Tried the Sticky Fingers - a rye based cocktail and the Honey Bang Me Sloe - Vodka basked cocktail. They are speciality cocktail prices between $14-15. The light bite and apps are great. Brussel sprout chips, tartare, and fried oysters. The ambiance is relaxing, romantic, and warm. There's low lighting and great music playing. Perfect for a date or with friends. Don't be in a rush if you come here, you definitely lose track of time. I didn't want to leave because I loved it so much inside, I can't wait to return. Review #38

    Cassius Clay Rye Cocktail

As soon as we walked in it was as if we were warped into a different time and space. The perfect chill ambience. Service was excellent by our waiter Ross. I ordered the crafted Cassius Clay Rye cocktail with a black salt rim! Yum yum yum. We will definitely be back! Thank you for the experience

All lined up for two communal cocktail batches

We met when we were almost young: I wish it had been sooner. I had Marianne's bookmarked for two years before they opened up to the public. I felt lucky to make a reservation just under two weeks before NYE. The space is intimate, to say the least, so book ahead if you want to come on a weekend night, with more than a few people. The hostess graciously let us squeeze an extra person in - otherwise it's maximum 8 people for one of few booths. Oh you're really such a pretty one: The lounge is an all encompassing comfort. The lighting is dim, sure. When I was trying to convince my friends to come here, the best I could describe it was: a cocktail lounge with excellent armchairs. I never said that I was brave: The cocktails are strong. No understating it. Between ten of us, we ordered two communal cocktails that came out in decanters. We got about two glasses each, and that was enough to make us teeter a bit on the way out. I also indulged in a superb First We Take Manhattan, in honor of my Man, Leonard Cohen. Considering their potency, the drinks were fairly priced. I'm standing on a ledge and your fine spider web is fastening my ankle to a stone: I didn't want to leave. I fell in love before we had even sat down in our booth. Everyone was gracious. There was a candy dish beside us. We could order fatty fries in red wine au jus. This bar was hitting all the right notes for me. I wish I had gone back already, I want to keep one of the menus. To have cocktails in honor of Leonard Cohen and other greats lost in 2016? This was the poetic end to the year.

Sticky fingers ($15) ×2, Indian summer ($15), Long island iced tea ($14), Brandy alexander ($14), Honey bang me sloe ($13)

After appearing in Eater, one of my friends suggested we check out Marianne's before it was no longer a secret bar. I agreed and we made a same day reservation for Friday, August 26th at 5:45pm for 5 people. They do ask you to put a credit card down since they'll charge you a $25 cancellation fee per person for no shows. Not sure how strict this is, but I showed up with 6 people and we were able to fit everyone in the booth we got. If you're not sure where Marianne's is, when you're coming from 5th, just walk down Jessie past the Cavalier entrance. You'll see a pink door to your left. That is Marianne's. The day I went, there were ropes outside and some of the employees were talking outside, so I found it easily. *Indian summer: botanist gin, jalapeno, cucumber, lemon cordial, soda & basil salt rim ($15) *Honey bang me sloe: barr hill honey vodka, sipsmith sloe gin, galliano, elderflower, orange juice & lemon ($13) ×2 *Long island iced tea: tea infused flor de cana rum, absolut vodka, beefeater gin, cointreau, lemon, ginger & cola ($14) *Sticky fingers: michters rye, balvenie 12 yr scotch, angioletto, sweet vermouth, grand marnier & lemon bitters ($15) ×2 *Brandy alexander: le reviseur brandy, creme de cacao, allspice dram, cream & nutmeg ($13) We basically tried the whole cocktail menu minus one drink. I got the sticky fingers. I am a scotch girl after all. It was nicely balanced. I ended up having a sip of every drink we ordered. If I was in a different mood and wanted something refreshing, I'd go for the honey bang. It was light, but still had a kick. For those who are calorie conscious, you can get diet coke with the long island. *2 minute quail egg: celery salt, crispy shallots & dijonnaise ($3 each) ×2 *Smoked fingerling potatoes: black garlic bbq sauce & malt aioli ($12) *Crispy squash blossoms: roasted peppers, goat cheese & cress ($14) There's a small food menu so you can order some dishes if you need a little substance with all your drinking. I believe it's all prepared by Cavalier. I didn't try any of the food, but everyone seemed to enjoy the dishes. One of my girlfriends was in town for the weekend, so we were celebrating my birthday. I told them when I walked in and they gave me a glass of bubbly right when I sat down. So sweet! Our waitress was such a doll. So friendly. She made our experience that much more amazing. And the bartender too! He was awesome and gave us a couple pours of Bunnahabhain: islay single malt scotch whisky to celebrate my bday. From the drinks to the amazing staff, I had a great time at Marianne's. Everyone here made it one of my favorite bday celebrations so far!

REVIEWER #23 Ladies and gentlemen! Are you looking for a secret bar that will WOW the hell out of your partner? Well let me introduce you to Marianne's! Marianne's is the super-secret cavalier back bar in San Francisco. When I arrived here in August 2016 this place was a hidden gem...but dang does the word get out quickly! I first came here with a Yelp friend for drinks. I literally do not know how he found this place but once we walked in and we had seen Yelpers that we knew in SF, I soon found out that this place was going to be the next best thing to night life! If you have never been here before let me give you the scoop: -Marianne's is located inside The Cavalier Restaurant however it does have its own private entry on the side of the restaurant with the pink door which is located on Jesse Street. If you haven't been here before then I would encourage you to check inside the restaurant and the host will walk you to Marianne's. -They are only open during the evening time from 5:30PM-12 or 1AM (depending on the day). -They do accept walk-in's but please not that this is NOT a big bar. It has only a couple tables and chairs and benches. If they are full they will take your name down and add you to the waitlist and text when there is space available. -They do serve light bites and appetizers in Marianne's. (Food is pretty pricey) but you get what you pay for! The food is delicious here! I can definitely contest to this as me and friend tried a lot of dishes off the menu such as: Lamb Schnitzel, potted Dungeness crab, Ham and Cheese Finger Sandwiches, Fried Oysters, Birthday Bubbly, Brussel sprouts Chips, Pork Sausage Rolls and many more! I recommend you try different dishes and don't worry which one you choose because you can't go wrong with anything here! -There drinks are stronggg!! I tried about 8 different drinks (of course, all on different visits) and all of them are truly delicious such as the Brandy Alexander & Honey Bang me Sloe. My all-time favorite is the Long Island Ice Tea. They do something amazingly different that makes the drink much more tasty and strong (Just how I like it). -I love that they have card and games that you can play inside the bar. There is a table in the back of the restaurant where you can pick up cards or dominos. Perfect for a great and fun night while you sip on a drink and have a couple appetizers. Now that I gave you a rundown of everything about the restaurant, let's move on to the customer service! Wow! Exceptional is not even the perfect word to describe the service here! Everyone is absolutely amazing! I walked in and was greeted right away. The first time I came here I had the lovely pleasure of having Janelle as my server! She was amazing and was on top of the service. She recommended dishes to us and made sure to check in frequently. Jake the bartender was such a joy to speak to and damn does he make delicious drinks! Mario was in the back kitchen cooking up all the delicious food! Big shout-out to Mario for the delicious appetizers that had me wanting more! Andre was another bartender that I had a pleasure of meeting as well here and Gabriel the server! All the lovely workers knew me by name the second time I walked in! AMAZING! Overall, I definitely would recommend Marianne's! If you are in San Francisco to visit, make sure you check this place out! You will not be disappointed! I love this place and look forward to coming here more often!

The shishito peppers ended up being extremely spicy as well, those are usually just a few spicy and not the majority. The roasted lemon and salt was a wonderful combo but just too spicy to eat. However, the server very kindly removed it from our bill without us asking. We order the crostini because we were still hungry and that was an absolute hit. Delicious med-soft crostini with luscious berries and sweet honey. I didn't care my hands got sticky as it was soooo good! Great experience, I would be weary if the peppers as I'm a bit spice-intolerant but everything else was spot-on.

Once it was 11pm, the bouncer started to let everybody in, so I'm guessing they only let people inside every 30 minutes to prevent overcrowding, even though once we got in it wasn't that crowded and there was plenty of open space outside too. Having to wait only gave us about an hour inside. It says they close at 12am and that is exactly when they close--you can't stay any longer than that. I'm used to bars typically staying open about 30 minutes to an hour after the listed closing time to allow customers inside to finish up. As soon as 12am hits, the bouncer starts going around and constantly telling you to hurry it up because they are closed now. The service was also pretty slow, which did not give us much time at all to sip and enjoy the drinks before they closed. We started off ordering two drinks, then our waiter came back about 10 minutes later and asked for last call so we ordered another one (this was before our two drinks even came out yet). After about 15 minutes, we got all three drinks and the waiter apologized and said he didn't charge us for the third drink since it took so long. This gave us only about 10-15 minutes to finish our drinks before we started to get told we had to leave. At least my drink (apple bottom beets) was good and I was able to chug it, but I would rather be able to take my time and enjoy a drink. Their menu is huge, and they have a wide selection of different cocktails categorized under which type of liquor is used (rum, agave, brandy). The ambiance is dark and romantic.

Drinks we ordered include: * Mexican Firing Squad - Our favorite of all. We are classic paloma cocktail lovers, and this drink provided everything we enjoy in a paloma and more. Tart, smooth, and all-around divine. * Southern Exposure - The celery in this really awakens the senses. Very refreshing. * Zombie - Boldest drink we've tried yet. Haunted us the remainder of the night (in a good way). * Poinsettia - Wish this wasn't just a holiday menu item. It's fabulous. * Caribbean Snow Day - The playful kid's cup this came served in had us fooled. This eggnog sure packed a punch. Can't wait to be back and check out what other rotating or seasonal drinks they provide. Lastly, major shout out to the hard-working bartender last night who provided kind, prompt and attentive service on top of greeting all patrons coming in, taking orders and bussing tables. You rock!

This place had a nice chill vibe despite being crazy busy. We were still able to find some decent seats and bask in the glow of good old JC. The place almost had a hall in the wall vibe with the twinkle lights but still boasted an impressive selection of drinks. Despite how busy it was, the staff was super friendly and bartenders were moving fast through the requests. Sometime at a bar you can feel ignored but it was not like that here. Cellphone signal is not great but they have wifi inside as well.

Reservations are highly recommended as we observed many walk-ins but there was a 1+ hour wait. Also, must be 21+. It's not an extensive menu - more like small bites. Appreciate the selection of Zero proof drinks. Hubs happy with the NA Suntory. I went with the Dashi Apple which was quite refreshing. Kiddo ordered the Miyabi which was quite floral. We ordered food items to share. Started with the Tebasaki (chicken wings). Kiddo liked these so much she ordered another one. Next, the pork jowl - some pieces were just fat but the meat was seasoned well. Loved the pear and pineapple kimchi - would've liked a bowl of that. The Tori Nanban Sando was another good one. The Shoji Burger is what hubs came for. Fork and knife definitely need to eat this. Pillowy soft bread, melty cheese, and the pickles all made for a tasty burger. Hubs would return for this alone. Ended our meal with the Hojicha Affogato - so good and such an enjoyable way to end our meal. We weren't rushed at any time. Service was good in that they checked on us often. I'd like to visit during the day time to check out their cafe offerings. Also, although not right away, we'd definitely return again for dinner.
