I did some research online to figure out what style ring I wanted. I came in to Boris' store, he asked me what my budget was, what kind of ring I wanted (sapphire and "sparkle"), took a look at the pictures from my research, and handled all of the rest. He put together a mock-up of the ring, offered his own suggestions (all of which I thankfully took), and then ordered the stones for the ring. When the stones arrived, he offered honest assessments of different sapphire stones, never being pushy, and even offered to discount a nicer sapphire so that it could fit into my budget. I am a busy graduate student, so my hours are not the most flexible; Boris was exceedingly accommodating, offered to meet me whenever was convenient for me (and would text me when I could not meet in person), and even offered to pay for my parking meter. When the ring finally arrived, it was more beautiful than what I had pictured in my mind and it was all the better knowing that it was a completely unique, original ring. My fianceé adored the ring and loved that it was custom-made for her. When the ring ended up being too big for my fiancée's fingers, Boris was incredibly polite and dedicated to re-sizing the ring; it was a difficult job because of how much the ring needed to be down-sized (it was a whole size too big with a very ornately decorated band). When he tried and it didn't work out, he re-made the band from scratch and only charged me for the service fee. Boris has an unparalleled commitment to excellence and customer service. He will work alongside you to make sure that when you're ready to pop the big question, you'll have on-hand an individualized, carefully-crafted ring that your partner will love. An anecdote emphasizing how dedicated Boris is to his craft: he asked me how I found out about the shop, and said that he hoped it was not from online. He said he's worried that people will share photos of the rings he's made online and future customers ask him to make identical ones, undermining the uniqueness of his rings for his customers. I was really moved to learn that he was willing to sacrifice online promotion of his business for the sake of his craftsmanship and his customers' happiness with their rings. The only point of clarification is that there are two shops with the same name (both are run by Boris and his wife, Svetlana). The one listed on Yelp is the one on E Baltimore street, which has a wider selection of jewelry beyond engagement rings and is where Svetlana works. Boris is based in the store on Lexington Avenue.
