I was a bit worried about my visit due to some of the negative reviews…read more I only interacted with two staff members but both seemed enthusiastic to help me while also giving me space to shop. The conditions of these tanks are PRISTINE. I'm not sure if it's due to their lightning or something else but the water just looks very clear and clean. I didn't see a single dead fish while browsing. Based on this fact, I'd like to believe that their livestock is quite healthy. They also make their policies VERY clear. It's on their website and there are also signs around the shop. Maybe these policies aren't that shocking to me since I buy lots of livestock online that don't have a guarantee after you add it to your aquarium. They do not have a phone number to check stock but they do post updates on their website and email newsletter. They claim it's due to high foot traffic but it wasn't very busy when I was there (Friday afternoon) with that being said, all of the staff members were doing something while I was at the store. I think they just don't have enough people sometimes. Price wise, yes some of the fish are outrageously priced ($14 for a CPD is crazy) but many of them seem reasonable. I assume it's however they're getting their stock or the fact that they offer 20% discounts if you get a 40G+ kit. They also sell cycled media for $20/lb if you're impatient to cycle a tank! I would highly recommend as a place to visit if you're just setting up a new tank or need a more uncommon/rare fish. They'll have basically anything you need but you can definitely get more common fish like pygmy corys, pea puffers, CPDs, etc elsewhere if you're looking to save money. Below are some prices based on my June 2026 visit to give you a sense of their pricing: Keep in mind that not all of these were in stock so prices might change. Happen on more than once occasion now!!! No longer trust their employee anymore and no longer going back to this place. So annoying with this guy even when i pointed out to him. We had to give it a shot since it was so promising and I was glad to support them. On the other hand, the cpd that we got from this store are the most vibrant in my tank. They have distinct dots and stripes beyond just the male and female differences. I'd say that the fish here are high quality :)

I…read moredrove over several times just for the store to be closed despite being within their own assigned working hours. Staff is disinterested in helping customers and prices are the highest here than in any other store, at least from Felton to Capitola. I was criminally overcharged for some plants recently. The only thing they have going for them is that they are the only aquatic store around Scotts Valley. Staff is also disinterested in the well being of the fish; the tanks are dirty and their inhabitants look visibly unhealthy. I never thought about going to a large pet store because of animal cruelty, however I would rather drive to Capitola than walk to Fintastic Fish in order to get supplies. The owner ("Wade") is a pervert for sure, and potentially a paedophile, though not fully confirmed. I will strongly advise not taking children and especially young women to this location under current management. I miss the previous management, this store used to be what they claim to be, until this Wade individual shows up and enshitifies the place. Do not support this business by making purchases there. The people who review this location positively have not seen the cleanliness standards and prices in other locations, which is highly unfortunate because this place does not deserve any review over one star.

Great visit to Monterey Bay Aquarium yesterday with family. When we visit, we typically like to…read morevisit during the weekdays versus the weekends as it can get pretty busy. Our Friday visit was a breeze as we arrived shortly after it opened and the number of visitors was much lower making it easy to move about the aquarium. The aquarium is very well kept and maintained, the staff is very helpful and the volunteers take pride in providing good service in answering questions and providing assistance. The exhibits are top notch and some of the best I have ever seen. Our favorites are the deep sea, jellyfish, and kelp exhibits - phenomenal! So glad this aquarium is close and we can visit every few years and offer it to family and visitors when they attend!

Worth a visit if you're in the area - truly an impressive space, so much to see and do. I love how…read morethis aquarium is set right in the bay, there's both an outdoor and underwater area to view it, and the option to add on experiences to get in the water. That being said, it's quite pricey to visit at $65/adult. That being said, you could spent most of a morning or afternoon here. The most impressive parts for me were the massive open ocean and kelp forest tanks, several jellyfish tanks, the pacific octopus (they have two), and the immersive "diner" exhibit that explicitly discusses seafood - farmed vs wild, what fish to avoid, safecatch options to make better choices, etc. Really I could spend half an hour just gazing into the larger tanks. We timed our visit well to be able to catch the morning otter feeding, and the staff were great about discussing the animals and taking questions - bonus points for having a bilingual format (English and Spanish). Look up their schedules ahead of time if there's anything you know you want to see - and heads up, this place is always busy, expect a long line at opening. You might have a better experience waiting til late morning or early afternoon when families leave for lunch or naptime. There is a cafe/restaurant on site and yes they do serve seafood. As a parent, I do appreciate that we are not required to drag our kids through the gift shop to leave. You can also get your hand stamped to leave and return later in the day!
