I love the idea of doing less waste on a daily basis. As the mom of a new little human, we are making a considerably amount of trash that we just can't get away from, so in the other areas of our lives, we like to reduce where we can. We found out about the mercantile through the Petaluma Mother's Club, and we were so excited to give them a try . Dawna is so sweet and knowledgeable about her products, and for the most part, we have really liked what we brought home. Our favorites are the laundry items: dry laundry booster, the stain remover and the laundry soap, but the unscented liquid dish soap is also really nice. I have gotten into the habit of putting our jars in the trunk so when I run out, I always have a jar ready when I'm in the area. Downsides of course are the challenges around parking. Oof, especially with a baby, it can be so tough getting in and out of the area. If it's peak gym time too, forget about it ! The drama in the parking lot rivals black Friday. Once that hurdle is made however, it's smooth sailing to the land of refil, reuse, and reduce. Big fan! read more

So friendly, bright, and well stocked with quality items! I'm making a real effort to make my home more eco friendly and I come here to replace items as I run out. Dip shampoo/conditioner bars, toothpaste tablets, eco friendly floss, CBD bath bombs, reusable dish towels, detergent, bamboo mason jar lids, face oils, a really pretty assortment of nail polish colors and so many other goodies. Just another reason for me to love downtown Petaluma (bonus, no paid parking!!). read more

I've been to this particular little store a handful of times in downtown Petaluma! This particular day I was searching for a couple of odds and ends since I was going to be traveling to Hawaii. I always hate that grimy feeling on my teeth when I'm sitting for so long, so I got to try some of their Toothpaste tablets! They worked perfectly for the plane and I took a bottled water into the little bathroom and I was able to brush my teeth well chew and brush my teeth while on the plane. Lol I felt minty and refreshed as well. I didn't have that feeling on my teeth! Lol , I also like their assortment of dry shampoo and condition bars, as well as their lotion bars! They have so many cute little things at this particular store. They're great little stocking stuffers for the holidays to come! They also have a really good deal on loofahs! Just what their name implies, Zero waste living for your home & body. Ditch the single use container. They have lotions, potions as in soaps, shampoos, home cleaning products to purchase with the idea of refilling your container over & over after purchasing said lotions, soaps, etc. from them. Kinda like the bulk food bin concept that not enough stores use. Stumbled upon this gem while touring downtown Petaluma and it's awesome! Why? The owners are 2 of the sweetest most helpful people and their products and product knowledge is excellent. The shop is small and perfectly laid out with everything and anything you need to reuse and refill your household products for cleaning, personal care, laundry items, soaps, potions, essential oils, reusable products like " un paper paper towels " and the like. Price points are truly competitive and I'll be going back ( I live in Marin and took the train for the day) for many more items... I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent customer service and fair pricing. read more

One of the most fun stores in our town. It's economic and animal friendly. All of their products are fantastic and affordable for all incomes. I have the most fun filling the jars and trying new products. Dawna and Rob are very knowledgeable on all of their products and can help anyone begin the transition to reducing and reusing! They hosted a private event where our group was able to shop, sip and snack. They even went above and beyond to drop off our stuff at our final location so that we could get to dinner! Thought I had found a really good place to supply canning jars for my wife's new hobby. Surprise! Not Surprise. Placed the order and noticed the site had not used the address I had imputed and used an existing address in the address book. Immediately sent a message to the business about the address issue. Heard nothing. Sent another email about the issue when I was given notice that the shipment was being prepared. No response. Tried to call during the day....closed was the message. Today, I get notice the order is out for delivery to the wrong address. Still no response from any semblance of customer service about the issue. They may have good prices, but there is a reason. Just hope you never have an issue with an order and all will be good. read more

LOVE the environmental focus this store has! I had the privilege of stumbling upon this shop one night while dining in Petaluma and could not take my eyes off of all of their products! There are so many wonderful plastic-free, waste reducing, and refillable products in this store that its a miracle I contained myself to only buying one product. The aesthetic - 10/10 Seriously cute, clean, and eco-conscious. There is NOTHING in this store without an earth-minded purpose. Very subtle colors make the products pop and the refill station is hidden in the back so you almost feel as though you're visiting someone's home to collect goodies. The owner - 10/10 I feel so lucky to have gotten to meet the owner and chat for a few minutes, she is LOVELY. So friendly and ready to provide any and all guidance needed for products. She has personally tested each product within the store so she is a wealth of knowledge. Also, love that she was willing to discuss other local vendors in my area providing a similar service - such a community! The items - 10/10 I could spend hours reading about all of their products and the wonderful impact they are making. Each product is hand-picked with certain ethical criteria so you know you can feel good about what you're buying! My purchase: - Dip conditioner bar - I have never been a conditioner bar fan because I love a good liquid conditioner lather and this product has pleasantly surprised me! This store has the best products!! The owners are also super helpful and kind. I've ordered online and in person and every time it's been great. I come in to refill my Plaine products (shampoo, conditioner, and just tried the facewash- it's a perfect trio). I really love that I'm reducing waste And getting good quality. I've tried lots of other eco products and had to throw them away because they didn't work well and that's such a bummer. Refill Merc tries all their products so they only sell the good stuff. They also have the Dip products etc. you see on IG. It's inside the Great Petaluma Shopping Mill by the 24hr Fitness and Adobe Wines tasting room. I love this store so much. It's so hard to find clean, sustainable products at stores - but this shop supplies it all. My favorite products are their bar soaps and multipurpose cleaners. They also have amazing body washes and soaps. And I love the emails they send out with great sustainability tips, new products, etc. Every city needs a Refill Mercantile :) read more
