The nest pro did an awesome job of fixing my nest thermostat, as well as my video doorbell. 2 other folks from taskrabbit had tried before and given up claiming that my wiring was incompatible. The nest pro went into the attic, figured out where the doorbell chime wire was broken and fixed it. He also opened the furnace, understood the wiring there and appropriately fixed my thermostat. I'd hire one for future nest installs in a jiffy. read more

They were very communicative pre appointment and scheduled the install to work around my schedule. Contacted them initially Wednesday evening (5/16, 5 days ago). Received an email on Thursday morning (5/17) morning requesting for additional pictures of the issue. Sent it immediately same evening (5/17). Heard nothing back from the company at all. Completely ghost silent. Sent them a follow-up email on Friday morning (5/18) stating it was urgent and I needed a tech out. Today is Sunday at 2PM (5/20) and I just heard back. Will not be using this service. Found a local service who came next-day. Completely ridiculous that its been 5 days and only now are we ABOUT to schedule an appointment (at this rate it would have been in June). Have the full e-mail chain saved as well - happy to provide that if anyone wants. Note: I emailed them all of this information and the email chains on 5/31 and didn't hear back. They requested I do that and now are requesting it again. Refresh not only got my Nest thermostat working, they saved me countless hours of future aggravation by diagnosing some oddness with my HVAC system in general. They made our recent move worlds less stressful. Long story short, purchased two Nest thermostats and was not able to get it to work. The entire internet confirmed that there were some wire issues with the logic board, and it was best to get a pro to work their magic. This is where the people at Refresh go above and beyond. After sending some pictures of wires back and forth over email, the folks at Refresh sent someone to take a look at it. They pointed out that there was nothing wrong with the Nest, but rather the logic board itself; the logic board not only didn't play nicely with smart thermostats, it was the wrong kind of logic board for a residential home. Fast forward to a half hour later, the logic board is swapped out, the fellow is giving me a demo of how the Nest works, and offering some pointers on how to use it the most efficiently with our type of HVAC setup. It's been about a week, and his suggestions were spot on! Working with this company was infuriating. Two guys came out to install our nest thermostat and nest doorbell. They couldn't figure out how to set up the doorbell. We paid $170 (they had the gall to ask for a tip and I felt pressured to at least tip 15%) for them to install JUST the thermostat. They said they would come back for the doorbell but needed to order a part. The part took a week to get in, and by the time it got in, the main guy was on vacation. Apparently, only one person in the entire city of Dallas knows how to install the doorbell. Instead of waiting and paying for the part and another $170 for them to come out, we opted for another company. The guy from the other company charged $99 and was able to set up the doorbell without any issue. Well, now we have another issue. Our thermostat is making a weird noise. My husband called multiple times to get them to come back out (we had a 30 day guarantee so it should have been free for them to come out). Well, they've been dodging his calls. I finally started calling and emailing. Our thermostat is still making a weird noise. I wouldn't recommend this company to my worst enemy. read more

I've used refresh Smart Home twice. First time they installed my Google Nest front door bell, 3 additional cameras and my Nest Alarm system. I must tell you that I was somewhat amazed at how well, their customer service was and the overall experience and follow up. I needed to have the nest thermostat wiring done and the company came up with a quote of 175$. I was told that this would treated as fresh install. The technician arrived and started working on the installed thermostat without switching the circuit breakers. After spending few minutes he said the thermostat was not getting power because of blown fuse and I needed to call the HVAC guys to get it fixed. I asked him if he can try replacing the upstairs old thermostat with the Nest one as it was working. He said it would cost me extra as the quote I was given was for wiring only. I said that was not what I was told. He said in any case it doesn't matter and he cannot help as long the HVAC FUSE is not fixed. After he left we found both my old thermostats stopped working as they were not getting any power. I called the technician and reported the issue. He said this was bound to happen and was coincidental that it happened now. He said he cannot help in any case. I had to call in HVAC guys to look at the my furnace and was told that this was because the the technician had connected the live wire incorrectly that caused the fuse to trip. It costed to 220$ to get this fixed. I would not recommend going with them for a Nest install. read more

Do not hire Refresh Smart Home. I had a Nest camera installed not realizing that it was the regular Nest camera and not the IQ camera. I purchased the camera from Refresh and asked to have it replaced with the IQ camera which I also purchased from Refresh. On the day of installation, I asked Refresh to take the regular camera back and refund me my purchase price which they refused to do. I was within the return window of the product. I am now out the cost and also own a camera that won't be used. Refresh should be reported to the Better Business Bureau. read more

Overall a good experience, although I thought $150 to reconnect a Nest outdoor IQ camera to my wifi was a bit expensive. An initial online inquiry resulted in an email saying they'd be in touch went a week without any contact with me. A second inquiry a week or so later received an immediate call back, and we set up a date and time. A day or two later, I received an email later saying Refresh didn't service my area, then another email a few hours apologizing, saying they did. Jose, the technician, contacted me at least twice to give me his scheduled and estimated service time, which was close to our original appointment time. He arrived, was very pleasant and polite, worked hard, but needed a paperclip from me to reset the camera. About 30 minutes later, the camera was back online and all was well. Overall impression: Refresh gives a NY phone number and address for work in TX, and seems to be rather new at this business. I thought $150 for the first hour and $100 for subsequent hours was a bit high for this work, particularly since my cameras were already installed and just needed to reconnect with existing wifi. But, the original Nest installer's phone number, website and email were out of service a mere six months after installation, so that tells me Nest installer businesses are a new enterprise with some kinks to work out. read more
